RPF Mysuru returns lost baggage worth ₹52.62 lakh to passengers in 2024-25
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Mysuru Division has recovered lost baggage of passengers and returned to their rightful owners 197 times in 2024-25, and the authorities have pegged the value of these items at ₹52.62 lakh.
The recovery of lost baggage and returning them to the passengers takes place under Operation Amanat across the country.
In the Mysuru Division, the RFP personnel have traced the lost baggage 197 times, the latest being on May 21 when the RPF recovered and returned a vanity bag containing gold ornaments and electronic items worth ₹1,49,465 to a lady passenger.
A release stated that on May 21, 2025, Teja, a resident of Kadur, left her bag on Train No. 16589 while deboarding at the Kadur Railway Station.
On realising that she had left behind her bag, Ms. Teja filed a complaint and the RPF escort team immediately launched an onboard search and located the bag. It was handed over to the RPF Post at Davangere.
After due verification, the belongings, including 15 gram of gold jewellery and two iPhone chargers, were returned to the rightful owner the next day.
Senior Divisional Commissioner, RPF Mysuru, J.R. Sam Prasanth, praised the team's efforts in retrieving the lost bag and returning it to the rightful owner. Ms. Teja expressed her gratitude to the RPF for its swift response.

Railway Ministry deploys CORAS Commandos in Jammu Vande Bharat trains
NEW DELHI: Leaving no scope for security lapses, the Ministry of Railways has deployed 32 CORAS commandos to ensure the safety of passengers aboard the specially designed Vande Bharat trains. These trains were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6 June, operating from Katra to Srinagar and vice versa. The CORAS commando unit is a specially constituted unit of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), trained to safeguard passengers and trains during any form of criminal activity. The Katra–Srinagar and the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat trains have been operating at full capacity since their inauguration and began commercial service the following day. The CORAS commandos provide continuous security for both the trains and their passengers without a moment's rest. 'The enhanced security arrangement onboard has been made in these two trains as they pass through many sensitive hilly areas between Katra and Srinagar. From September this year, the commercial run of these two Vande Bharat trains will start from Jammu railway station which is now being redeveloped and the works of redevelopment are set to be completed by September', said a senior railway official.

Special anti-ganja drive conducted at Vizianagaram railway station
Teams of Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force jointly conducted special anti-ganja drive in Vizianagaram police station as part of their goal to make the railway station free from drug menace and anti-social elements. The officials, including Sub-Inspector V. Balajee Rao of GRP and RPF Inspector R. Kumara Rao and Sub-Inspector B. Sridhar, led the programme and checked all the important places like platforms, waiting hall, canteen and others. They verified bags of suspicious persons and ticketless travellers. The three special teams conducted inspections in several trains, including Samatha Express. They asked the travellers to inform the GRP and RPF if they come across sale or consumption of ganja and other drugs in and around the railway station.
