RPF Mysuru returns lost baggage worth ₹52.62 lakh to passengers in 2024-25
The recovery of lost baggage and returning them to the passengers takes place under Operation Amanat across the country.
In the Mysuru Division, the RFP personnel have traced the lost baggage 197 times, the latest being on May 21 when the RPF recovered and returned a vanity bag containing gold ornaments and electronic items worth ₹1,49,465 to a lady passenger.
A release stated that on May 21, 2025, Teja, a resident of Kadur, left her bag on Train No. 16589 while deboarding at the Kadur Railway Station.
On realising that she had left behind her bag, Ms. Teja filed a complaint and the RPF escort team immediately launched an onboard search and located the bag. It was handed over to the RPF Post at Davangere.
After due verification, the belongings, including 15 gram of gold jewellery and two iPhone chargers, were returned to the rightful owner the next day.
Senior Divisional Commissioner, RPF Mysuru, J.R. Sam Prasanth, praised the team's efforts in retrieving the lost bag and returning it to the rightful owner. Ms. Teja expressed her gratitude to the RPF for its swift response.

Railway officials worried over rising number of cases of trains running over cattle affecting passenger safety in Tiruchi Division
Last Monday saw yet another case of cattle being run over on the railway track in Tiruchi division. The aerodynamic portion of the Chennai-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express was damaged after it ran over a cattle between Vriddhachalam and Ariyalur, on the Villupuram-Tiruchi chord line. The train was delayed because of the incident. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested the cattle owner and booked a case against him for endangering passenger safety. The latest incident joins a long list of such instances reported within the jurisdiction of the Tiruchi Railway Division this year. According to RPF authorities, 219 cases of cattle being run over by trains were reported in Tiruchi Division, which is spread over 10 revenue districts, since January this year. Of these, 65 cases were reported in the four sections of Tiruverumbur-Ponmalai, Adirampattinam-Tillaivilagam, Budalur-Thanjavur and Nagapattinam-Karaikal, which are classified as 'vulnerable' stretches. Twenty-two incidents were reported on the Tiruverumbur-Ponmalai BG section alone. Despite periodic awareness campaigns, such instances remain a cause for concern for the railway authorities as these endanger passenger safety besides disrupting train services, said a senior RPF officer. The number of such incidents reported in 2024 was 345, the authorities said. RPF holds awareness programmes every time such an incident is reported in a particular stretch. Respective local panchayats are involved in these programmes to drive home the message to the people to stay alert and ensure that cattle are kept away from the tracks, the authorities added.

Man found dead in Metro tunnel
1 2 Kolkata: A man was found dead on the tracks inside the North-South Metro tunnel between Park Street and Esplanade stations early on Friday. The man, aged between 30 and 35 years, remains unidentified. Metro Railway has started a probe into how he could have accessed the premises after commercial hours, especially on Independence Day, when installations were under vigilance. Metro officials said the man was spotted around 2.15 am, following which RPF alerted Lalbazar. New Market PS cops took the man to MCH, where he was declared "brought dead". Man Posing As Cop, Claiming To Be Raja Raghuvanshis Friend, Arrested
Police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as Raja Raghuvanshi's friend and visiting his home in Indore while impersonating a railway police officer, according to a report. The accused, identified as Bajrang Lal, a resident of Rajasthan, visited Raghuvanshi's house on Thursday. He introduced himself as a police station in-charge from Delhi and claimed to be a close friend of Raja, as per the HT report. Raja Raghuvanshi was reportedly killed in May during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, with investigators alleging that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, hired contract killers to carry out the murder. At the time of the incident, Lal was dressed in a uniform with three stars, an RPF badge, and ordinary red shoes. His appearance and behavior raised doubts, prompting Raja's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, to inform her other son, Sachin. When questioned, the accused repeatedly changed his statements and even attempted to leave, as per the HT report. Lal claimed he had met Raja at Ujjain's Mahakal temple in 2021, but the family refuted this, saying Raja had not traveled during the COVID pandemic. Officials believe Lal's intention was to dupe the family. According to an Indian Express report, the Police said that preliminary inquiries indicate that the accused has a pattern of impersonating police officers. Investigators suspect he had studied details of the murder case in advance and was attempting to dupe the family. The accused has now been arrested, and authorities are examining his past criminal record. Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Raja Raghuvanshi, who married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The murder was allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was reportedly in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha. Investigators allege that she conspired to eliminate Raja even before their marriage. As part of the plan, three men were hired to execute the crime. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the attackers finally killed Raja on May 23. His mutilated body was found in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
