10 easy-to-watch series you can binge this Bank Holiday

Extra.ie3 days ago
While many people are ready to dive into a mammoth binge session when a Bank Holiday rolls around, others prefer some easy viewing.
From rewatching come classic sitcoms to exploring some new series that should be on your watchlist, you truly have an abundance of options to beat the Sunday scaries and relax in style.
Here's 10 series we here at Extra.ie think you should be watching this Bank Holiday Weekend.
This multi-award winning comedy is always high up our list for a rewatch, and with episodes not being too long, you can easliy rewatch the whole series in less than a week.
For those who have never seen it, the series stars father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, Catherine O'Hara and Annie Murphy as the wealthy Rose family who lose all their money and are forced to go live in the town of Schitt's Creek.
Ahead of the second season arriving on August 6, what better time to either watch or rewatch season one of Wednesday?
The young Addams is changing school and will be attending Nevermore Academy for the semester. While she tries to not live in her parents' acedemic shadows, she uncovers a murder mystery that only she can solve.
Based on the film of the same name, this Tina Fey-co-created series has eight 30-minute episodes, meaning you can knock out the first season in on night.
The series follows six friends who meet up every season and how their lives change over the course of a year. The show has already been renewed for a second season and we couldn't recommend it more.
A series that had viewers gripped from the first episode was the Disney+ series Paradise starring Sterling K Brown and James Marsden.
It's a show that is hard to describe without spoiling the mega plot-twist in the conclusion of the first episode, but we'll just say it stars a Secret Service agent who is in charge of protecting the President of the United States and… well… things go wrong.
Another show that has a new season incoming is the massively popular Only Murders in the Building which has taken the true crime podcast trope and made a fictional series out of it.
Starring Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez, with some megastar cameos and supporting cast each season, there are four seasons for fans to feed their murder mystery appetites now streaming, and season five lands September 9.
While it's been 15 years since the show ended, Scrubs is still a popular series for a rewatch.
And, considering it's getting a reboot with many of the main cast returning, what better time to pop it back on the telly?
Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag was the show everyone was going crazy for when it was airing, and even though it's only two seasons with a total of 12 episodes, it's a must-see show.
The show is adapted from Waller-Bridge's 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-woman play of the same name (which won a Fringe First Award) and introduced the world to Andrew Scott's Hot Priest.
Based on the book series by Lee Childs, Reacher stars Alan Ritchson as the titular character who always seems to find himself getting into trouble and needing to help solve a mystery or two.
The series has three seasons now streaming, and the fourth is currently in production.
A show that might have gone under the radar is The Big Door Prize which stars our very own Chris O'Dowd and follows the residents of a small town which is changed when a mysterious machine appears that promises to reveal everyone's true potential.
Similar to many of the shows on this list, it's only 30-minutes an episode and has two seasons now streaming, but alas, that's your lot.
This entry might be the most difficult to get a hold of in the Rep of Ireland without a VPN, but the UK version of Ghosts is definitely worth the effort and has five seasons to watch.
The show follows a group of ghosts from different historical periods haunting a country house while sharing it with its new living occupants, and stars a slew of familiar faces from the British comedy scene such as Taskmaster alumni Charlotte Ritchie, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Mathew Baynton, and Lolly Adefope.

Danny Dyer says Bafta win was 'very emotional moment after 35 years in the game'

Actor Danny Dyer has reflected on his win at the Bafta TV Awards and said it was "very emotional" to be given his "flowers" after 35 years in the industry. The former EastEnders star, 48, won the male performance in a comedy award for his role playing Lee in the Sky Max series Mr Bigstuff. Dyer told the PA news agency: "I would like to think that I could maybe inspire some people that feel that they don't stand a chance, being from a working class background, that you can, if you're committed and you have belief in yourself and ambition, that you can certainly be and do whatever you want to do, whatever you want to achieve in life. "I think me maybe winning that Bafta was a moment of going, 'Oh, OK, you know what? Anyone can do it.' "I'm not knocking what I've done, or my achievements or my hard work I've put in, but I do think that it's quite an elite thing, that Bafta thing. "I think that to give me my flowers after 35 years in the game was a very emotional moment for me and I hope it's inspired a lot of other young kids coming through to just keep at it. Keep at it and never give up." Speaking about a lack of working class people in the TV and film industry, Dyer said: "I don't know why it's changed so much. It's a real shame. We need to do something about it." Dyer also said "there's room for another series" of Mr Bigstuff, which follows brothers Lee and Glen, played by Ryan Sampson, who are look for their estranged father in series two, after finding out he is alive. "The character Lee is quite relevant at the moment, in the sense of, the whole masculinity thing, what's going on at the moment with men, and what's true masculinity and what's toxic masculinity," said Dyer. He added: "Lee is quite lovable, and he's got no filter, and he does stand up for what's right… it's a funny little layer to Lee." Dyer has had a busy past year or so, having starred in Disney+ series Rivals and as the protagonist in Nick Love's comedy-drama Marching Powder. Reflecting on life in the limelight, he said: "It's really odd to think of what people's perceptions are of me. I don't know what that is. I think I represent different things to different people. "I think, living in this world of social media, which is really quite destructive and not very nice, it doesn't breed happiness, and people commenting on stuff… I feel like places like Facebook, you might get a lot of hate, obviously Twatter or Twitter, or whatever the f*** it's called, just an awful place to go. "Instagram's a bit kinder. Only really dabble with Instagram. So, for me, there's reality, which is the real world, and then there's the online world, which I feel is a load of bollocks. "I can walk the streets and no one will give me no f****** aggravation, I get nothing but love. If I was to just look at, say Twitter (now called X), then I would never leave my house."

Advertisement 2 Hulu is coming to the UK Credit: Getty 2 The Star brand will disappear as a result of the shake-up Credit: Getty Hulu will be the new name for Star, the destination for non-Disney grown up movies and major TV series like The Bear and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The Hulu brand has been around for years across the pond in the US. Disney has been running Hulu and Disney+ as two separate apps over there but they're set to be merged next year. This will mean the end of Hulu as a standalone streaming app. Advertisement However, the brand will live on within Disney as a section, much like it will in the UK when it replaces Star. US viewers will still be able to pay for separate Hulu and Disney+ subscriptions as they do currently. "Today, we're announcing a major step in enhancing our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney Plus,' Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston said during the company's quarterly earnings call. Irish PR firm Penta sold to Disney investment vehicle Shamrock Capital

Irish-based public relations firm Penta has been acquired by the investment arm of the Disney family for an undisclosed sum. Los Angeles-based Shamrock Capital, which was set up in the 1970s as the family investment company for the late Roy Disney, specialises in media, entertainment, communications and sports. It said it had agreed to buy the Penta Group, which includes the Irish PR business Hume Brophy, from current owners Falfurrias Capital. Penta advises some of world's largest companies, including Microsoft, Google and JP Morgan, and recently appointed former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to its advisory board. READ MORE It generated over $100 million in revenue last year. Shamrock is understood to have paid a multiple of this to acquire the company. The US private equity group hit the headlines recently when it sold the master rights to Taylor Swift's first six studio albums back to the artist, ending one of the music industry's most high-profile ownership disputes. Shamrock had purchased Swift's back catalogue from Ithaca Holdings in 2020. Of the Penta deal, Shamrock said the investment would 'supercharge Penta's ability to deliver differentiated strategic advisory, data, insights, and technology offerings for large enterprises navigating complex stakeholder relations in an increasingly complicated and rapidly changing business, policy, and regulatory environment'. Penta acquired Irish public relations firm Hume Brophy, set up by John Hume, son of the former SDLP leader John Hume, and Dublin businessman Eoin Brophy, in 2023. It employs 350 staff globally including 20 at its Dublin office. Mr Varadkar joined the Penta team in April this year, 12 months after exiting public office. At the time, the company said he would be working with Penta's teams and clients across all markets but would not be involved in lobbying. 'His expertise in navigating complex geopolitical landscapes, economic development, and progressive social change will be invaluable as Penta continues its rapid expansion in 2025 and beyond,' Penta said. Shamrock Capital said Penta had experienced 'considerable growth' in recent years. 'Shamrock believes the acquisition of Penta will enable Penta to continue its rapid growth trajectory while further investing in its proprietary data, analytics and AI capabilities and building out its scaled global footprint,' it said. 'Penta is redefining what it means to be a trusted partner to global brands, by weaving data and insights into all components of its offering,' said Laura Held, partner and member of Shamrock's executive committee.
