Kairat Almaty warned of psychological pressure facing Celtic

The Nationala day ago
And veteran boss Viktor Kumykov revealed he ordered his Shakhter Karagandy players to listen to recordings of a packed Parkhead at full volume to prepare them for what would await them.
Celtic face Kairat in the first leg of the Champions League play-offs with a £40 million prize at stake for progression.
The Hoops first played against opposition from the former Soviet nation 12 years ago and they were stunned in the first leg which had been moved to the capital of Astana, where they crashed to a 2-0 defeat.
But they eventually beat Shakhter Karagandy 3-0 at home thanks to an injury time winner from James Forrest, with the still-going-strong, highly-decorated Hoops legend proving the hero.
Shakhter Karagandy were managed by Kumykov, who is still a boss in Kazakhstan with FC Kaisar.

And he's warned Kairat players what to expect tonight.
He said: "It will be much harder against Celtic than against Slovan Bratislava, who they played in the last round, especially away.
"They have a chance because the second leg is at home, but it depends on how they cope in Glasgow.
"We beat Celtic easily at home, but in Glasgow, we didn't have enough strength.
"It was a 16-hour journey, including connections to get there and we conceded in both halves in injury time.
"It is important for the Kairat footballers to withstand the psychological pressure.
"We prepared in Karaganda by listening to recordings of the sound of the Celtic stands, turning up the speakers at full volume.
"In 2013, Celtic were very strong - they beat Barcelona.
"They are worse now and I think Kairat have a better chance than we did back then - they are experienced in European football these days."

Arsenal set to hijack Tottenham's move for Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze

As late as Tuesday Spurs appeared to be in the driving seat for the forward, with talks progressing over a deal for the 27-year-old. However, the PA news agency understands the Gunners are now exploring a move, with reports suggesting the England international prefers a switch to Mikel Arteta's side. Their interest has accelerated after Havertz was forced off in Sunday's victory over Manchester United, although sources insist it is still too early to give a prognosis on the Germany international. Eze, whose £68million release clause expired on Friday, played 84 minutes of the weekend draw at Chelsea and trained on Wednesday ahead of Palace's Conference League play-off at home to Fredrikstad, with head coach Oliver Glasner insisting he and captain Marc Guehi, a target for Liverpool, would start the European tie. 'Before Chelsea I think many of you were surprised that Marc and Ebs started and played almost the whole game,' he said. 'Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours. But again, they are committed.' Eze was released by Arsenal as a 13-year-old.

Linfield are better prepared and battle-ready for second crack at Shelbourne, insists David Healy

The two League champions are reunited in a tasty UEFA Conference League playoff with the first leg at Tolka Park on Thursday night. Shelbourne ran out 2-1 aggregate victors in a Champions League first qualifying round tie last month, winning the first leg 1-0 in Dublin followed by a 1-1 draw at Windsor Park. Linfield were undercooked ahead of their venture south but they have now played seven competitive games, including six European battles. "We will find out just how much better we are but, personally, I think we have improved," said the Blues boss. "Our fitness levels are better, our performance levels are hopefully better. "On our previous visit here we hadn't played a competitive game but we have now played seven. "We are getting to where we want to be. Are we top level? Not yet in terms of physicality and what we want to see. But we are certainly better physically than the first Tolka Park game." Linfield had chances to defeat Shels in their first clash and Ben Hall's sending off at Windsor Park didn't help their cause, but Healy accepts the better side edged it. "Over the two legs Shels probably deserved to go through," he added. "It felt like the two teams were destined to meet again. "I believe people in the League of Ireland, and Shelbourne especially, were pleased with the draw, so it's up to us to perform and show supporters of both clubs that we have improved from the first game here."
