LSU football adds one of the transfer portal's elite defenders
LSU football's transfer portal class just got even better as safety AJ Haulcy joins the group. The news was reported by 247Sports' Matt Zenitz on Sunday night.
Haulcy comes in as an All-Big 12 first-team selection from Houston, where he played the past two years and compiled 171 tackles and 10 pass deflections. He hauled in five interceptions in 2024. Combined with his freshman year at New Mexico, he has 2,121 snaps under his belt.
Haulcy fills a need for LSU after the Tigers didn't add an experienced safety in the first portal window. LSU likes the young talent it has at the position, but Kelly jumped at the chance to add an impact player to the secondary, continuing Kelly's aggressive approach to recruiting the transfer portal. His staff put together the nation's top transfer class, starting with a strong showing in the winter window, and it only got better with Haulcy's commitment.
The Houston, TX native is the No. 31 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the spring transfer portal window, according to On3's Industry Rankings. He came out of high school as a three-star prospect but quickly played above his ranking as he made 86 tackles during his rookie year.
Haulcy is the 18th transfer of the cycle for LSU. Like much of the class, there's a good chance he earns a starting role this fall. LSU safety play was inconsistent in 2023 and 2024 -- the staff is hoping Haulcy can bring stability to the position.

Two SEC Programs on ‘Commitment Watch' For Highly Touted Quarterback After Official Visits

Two SEC Programs on 'Commitment Watch' For Highly Touted Quarterback After Official Visits originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Celina, Texas, four-star quarterback Bowe Bentley has emerged as one of the nation's top prospects for the class of 2026, with LSU and Oklahoma battling it out for his commitment. Advertisement He's a 6-foot-2, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback and led Celina High School to a 16-0 record and a state championship in 2024, throwing for 3,211 yards, 47 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. He added 923 rushing yards along with 16 touchdowns on the ground. Bentley can spread the ball across the field with his strong arm and great accuracy. He brings mobility as well, giving him a dynamic advantage while under pressure. Bentley's rapid rise has seen him climb the rankings as he mulls a huge decision. According to 247Sports, he's the No. 78 ranked overall recruit and the seventh quarterback in the class. Advertisement It seems as if Bentley is getting closer to a decision. After his recent trips to Baton Rouge (May 31, 2025) and Norman (June 6-8, 2025), Bentley is officially on commitment watch. LSU appeals to the young quarterback because of its recent history of developing the position with recent Heisman winners Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow. The Tigers consistently bring elite skill position players to the program, which also makes them very enticing. On the other side, Oklahoma's offensive coordinator Ben Abruckle's fast-paced scheme saw Cam Ward have success just two years ago at Washington State. The Sooners' close proximity to his home state of Texas could also be a driving factor for his choice. As a decision gets closer, both programs are hopeful to land one of the best quarterbacks in next year's class. College World Series Preview: 3 things to know about Coastal Carolina

College World Series Preview: 3 things to know about Coastal Carolina The College World Series returns this week for the 75th anniversary of the CWS in Omaha. LSU baseball is headed to Omaha for the 20th time in program history. The Tigers will be joined by seven other programs looking to make a run at the national title. Just about every pocket of the country is represented in the field of eight. There's a heavy West Coast presence with Arizona, Oregon State, and UCLA. LSU and Arkansas represent the boot, while Murray State and Louisville represent Kentucky. From the Southeast, we have Coastal Carolina. We have a fresh field as none of these teams were in Omaha last year. A few schools are chasing their first national championship while programs like LSU and Arizona look to add to a large trophy case. Ahead of the CWS, we'll examine all eight teams. With only two SEC teams in the field, LSU fans are likely unfamiliar with most of these squads. Here are three things to know about Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers are riding a 23-game win streak Coastal Carolina is the hottest team in college baseball right now. The Chanticleers' last loss came on April 22 at The College of Charleston. Since then, Coastal Carolina has notched four sweeps and won the Sun Belt Tournament. There are always questions about how teams like Coastal will fare against power conference competition, but CCU quieted those concerns. The win streak includes a victory over Clemson and a sweep of Auburn in the super regional. This team has the talent to hang with the top squads in college baseball. According to the Massey Ratings, Coastal Carolina is the fourth-best team in the sport. They're far from a sleeper in Omaha. Led Sun Belt in stolen bases and fielding percentage The little things can be the difference in June baseball. Coastal Carolina led the Sun Belt in stolen bases and fielding percentage. The Chanticleers can create extra runs on offense and know how to keep them off the board on defense. Sebastian Alexander is one of the top runners in the country with 27 steals on the year. Wells Sykes can run too, with 17 steals to his name. CCU has a strong defense behind the plate as well, with First-Team All-Sun Belt catcher Caden Bodine. Pitching staff is deep The only pitching staff in Omaha that can rival Coastal Carolina from a depth standpoint is Arkansas, and the Razorbacks are on the other side of the bracket. With a strong starting rotation and deep bullpen, the Chanticleers have the tools to fight out of the losers' bracket if they must. Jacob Morrison has been one of the top pitchers in the country all year. The big righty is 11-0 with a 2.15 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 96.1 innings pitched. Along with Morrison, you have Riley Eikhoff, who has a 2.90 ERA in 15 starts. It doesn't stop there as Cameron Flukey, 3.24 ERA in 91.2 innings, rounds out the rotation. Not many teams have three bonafide starters like that.

Deion Sanders 'Health Issue' Becomes Growing Concern

Deion Sanders has dealt with a myriad of health issues during his lengthy football career - and even more so in his post-NFL career. Blood clots led Sanders to have two of his toes amputated and led to the removal of the sides of his left calf. He battled the issue for two years and underwent 16 different surgeries while missing several media events, like the Pac-12 media days, in 2023. 'Could you imagine winning in life – I mean flat-out dominating life – and then you get hit, you get blindsided with news that you never would've fathomed: that you got to have surgery immediately. Then guess what? They tell you first, we're going to have to amputate toes. Oh, or your foot, from the knee down. Now your whole leg, or your life," Sanders said at the time. Fast forward to June 9, 2025 and Sanders appears to be in the middle of another health battle. According to a report from the USA Today, Sanders has been joined by athletic trainer Lauren Askevold in Texas as he deals with a "health issue" that has started "raising questions" in Colorado. Sanders has reportedly been at his estate in Texas while dealing with the unspecified issue as summer camps for the Buffaloes got underway last week. He previously appeared at the camps in 2023 and 2024, which only heightens his absence so far this year. On June 8, Sanders' eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., said on a YouTube livestream that his father is "feeling well." 'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,' Sanders said. 'When we get back in Boulder, I don't know. I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm gonna sit here with him.' Earlier in the day the NFL Hall of Famer canceled a speaking engagement in Florida because of an "unavoidable last-minute scheduling change," according to The Foundation for Sickle Cell Research. Sanders appears to have been battling a health issue dating back to at least May when he met with former NFL star Asante Samuel on a podcast. 'I hope you're feeling better,' Samuel said to Sanders before asking him if he ever tried fasting. "What I'm dealing with right now is at whole 'nother level' Sanders said before noting he lost 14 pounds. Colorado opens the 2025 season against Georgia Tech on Aug.
