Perrie Edwards reveals 'toxic' engagement to Zayn Malik impacted her romance with Alex
Former Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards has opened up about her failed engagement to Zayn Malik, 32, and how their 'toxic' romance impacts her relationship with fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Perrie, who shares three-year-old son Axel with footballer Alex, describes the former One Direction singer as her "first love" but admits their time together was far from healthy.
The mum-of-one, 32, and Zayn struck up a romance shortly after Little Mix won The X Factor in 2011, with things moving fast. Zayn popped the question in 2013 and even got a tattoo of Perrie on his arm.

But the good times didn't last and the two pop stars announced the end of their engagement in July 2015. Perrie would later reveal that Zayn, who quickly struck up a romance with Gigi Hadid in the wake of their split, actually dumped her via text message.
Speaking on today's episode of We Need To Talk, the podcast from Paul C Brunson, Perrie looks back on her time with Zayn and the lessons she has learnt from her 'first love'.
"We were engaged to be married, but when I look back now, it was a little bit toxic," she tells Celebs Go Dating star Paul. Answering how she got through the heartbreak, Perrie admits: "The girls.
"It was really hard to have relationships because we were never home. And I remember it came out in the press that I was seeing Alex. And my dad, he was just fuming.
"My brother was fuming. You've just dated a boy band member who's completely shattered your soul. And now you're going for a footballer. And I was like, I think I love him. Alex and I have been through a lot."
Paul later asks how her relationship with Zayn, and its bitter ending, shaped how she loved again after their split. "Probably not good. It wasn't it wasn't ideal. I think it definitely at the time, I thought everything we experienced in our relationship was normal," Perrie muses.
"Because it was my first relationship, first love. I was like, oh, this is how it's supposed to feel. It's supposed to feel a little bit toxic in some ways. This is probably normal.
"And then when I become single, I was almost thinking like I never, ever want to go through that again. I didn't even want to meet anybody. I was like, that's me done. I don't think I could bear that pain. Like the pain of heartbreak is so grim that I remember thinking I'm done with men forever. That's me done."And then when I met Alex, I had so many issues in our relationship at the beginning that I probably didn't notice at the time. But now reflecting back, I'm thinking, oh, that probably wasn't, it wasn't good. And I've noticed it a lot."
Perrie has been with former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since 2017, welcoming their first baby Axl into the world in 2021, and they became engaged in 2022.
Zayn currently lives in America and co-parents daughter Khai, four, with supermodel Gigi Hadid.

Paul C Brunson returns to USA from UK after seven years - and reveals what SHOCKED him
Celebs Go Dating star Paul C Brunson has returned to the USA after spending years overseas. The 49-year-old first moved to the UK in 2018 to film the Channel 4 show and eventually settled down with his family after years of travelling back and forth. Paul is well known in reality TV from his appearances on several shows, including Married At First Sight, where he featured as a relationship expert, and co-hosting Celebs Go Dating. The American recently landed in the States again and shared his thoughts on how his perspective has shifted about the country. In a post to his 493,000 followers, Paul wrote: 'Seven years away changes what you see.' The reality star then went on to explain how conflicted he felt since returning. 'Within 24 hours of landing back in the US for the first time in what seems like forever, I felt both at home and like a stranger,' Paul added. Paul shared the various things that he has now noticed about America. 'Gun magazines placed beside candy. Prescription drug ads at every turn. SUVs that look like small ships. Coffee cups you could swim in,' he went on. 'Some of these things are small. Others feel massive. But together, they paint a picture of what's normalized here, of the values and rhythms that shape daily life in ways you don't always notice until you've stepped away.' Paul spent seven years in the UK and the time away has made him see things in a different light. He explained: 'Living abroad has trained my eye to catch these details, but more than that, it's made me curious about what they say about us: what we prioritize, what we overlook, and what we've quietly accepted as 'just the way it is.'' Paul's upload contained a series of images, outlining some of the points he had noticed including a positive point about the friendliness he feels from people. 'There's a warmth and friendliness unlike what I've seen in the UK, mostly London,' he wrote. The reality star's post attracted thousands of likes and hordes of commenters, all keen to share their take. Someone chimed in: 'It really is amazing how living a abroad changes your eye.' Another agreed: 'Sad facts. Times have definitely changed and not all change has been for the best. The American recently landed in the States again and shared his thoughts on how his perspective has shifted about the country 'Unfortunately, lots of Americans have become desensitized by the subtle changes. Not me though. Stay vigilant people.' While one had a different experience and said: 'Just moved back to America after 8 years in London. 'Feeling so much happier back in the states! The friendliness makes a difference.'

Following his split from Hayley Palmer last year, the quizmaster is on a mission to find new love with the help of dating experts Anna, Paul C Brunson, and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn. After announcing his break-up, Mark said he'd been living "quietly" in Yorkshire, and embracing life as a singleton. Now ready to step out of his comfort zone and date again, he has put his love life in the hands of the dating gurus. Ahead of his dates being shown on screen, Anna, 44, shared what he was like during the process. She said: "Mark is probably one of the most fascinating celebrities we've ever had. Let's just say, for me, he's an appointment to view. He gives us it all!". Hinting at some clashes during filming, she added: "He has a few ups and downs with us agents, I will throw that out there. Mark is definitely a force to be reckoned with and I think he met his reckoning force in us." Issuing a warning, Anna continued: "Let's just say we don't tolerate any clap back in the agency." Celebs Go Dating stars Anna Williamson, Paul C Brunson, Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn and Tom Read Wilson When asked about the specific guidance he received, he said there were "suggestions of flirting" which "didn't feel natural" to him. "But the major one there was to really listen and take an interest and I have got to say that kind of worked," he further commented to Channel 4. According to The Sun, the quizmaster has been enjoying time with a dating hopeful from the show who he "instantly connected" with.
