Cyberabad police apprehend 340 in weekend drunk driving crackdown
The police had organised a large-scale drive on the weekend, deploying teams to check for drunk driving. Of the 340 offenders caught, 288 were on two-wheelers, 12 were in three-wheelers, and 39 were in four-wheelers. Police said that 303 offenders had BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) levels ranging from 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, 25 offenders had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 12 offenders had dangerously high BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be produced before the Honourable Court.
The highest number of offenders, 127, were aged between 21 and 30, followed by 125 offenders in the 31-40 age group, and 59 offenders who were 41-50 years old. In a drive conducted last week, from August 4 to August 8, a total of 329 drunk driving cases were disposed of in the courts. Of these, 298 people were penalised with fines, and 31 were sentenced to jail. Two people were imprisoned for one and four days respectively, while 26 people were jailed for two days and one person for three days. As many as 16 people were also assigned social service as part of their penalty.
The Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. They stated that if a driver causes a fatal accident while inebriated, they will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder). The maximum punishment under this section is 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine. The Cyberabad Traffic Police urged all citizens to drive responsibly and ensure road safety for everyone.

Woman dies by suicide; husband, in-laws arrested for dowry harassment
A day after a 27-year-old woman died by suicide at her in-laws' residence in Ambegaon Budruk, Katraj, her husband and in-laws were arrested for physical, mental harassment and abetment to suicide on August 10. The couple got married on May 2, 2024, but within days, her in-laws began pressuring her to bring ₹ 20 lakh from her parents to fund a business. When she couldn't fulfil the demand, they allegedly subjected her to harassment, says police. They were produced in court on Monday and remanded in police custody till August 16. When she couldn't fulfil the demand, they allegedly subjected her to harassment.' The woman's father has filed a police complaint. The complaint states that the woman had earlier filed a dowry harassment complaint in Solapur against her in-laws under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 498. However, the case was withdrawn after both families sought to resolve the matter. The C-summary report in that case was filed just 11 days before her death. Khilare said, 'We have arrested four persons, including the in-laws, and a relative in connection with the incident which took place at her in-laws' residence where she took the extreme step on August 9.' The police have booked the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 108 (abetment), 85 (act caused by inducement), 115(2) (abetment of suicide), 352 (assault), 351(2)(3) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (dowry harassment). Reacting to the incident, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on X posted, 'While the tragic case of Vaishnavi Hagawane's death over dowry-related demands is still fresh, yet another deeply saddening incident has occurred. Driver arrested for harassing lady boss in Coimbatore
1 2 Coimbatore: A 27-year-old driver was arrested on Saturday for threatening and harassing a woman, who was his employer. The Kuniyamuthur police identified the arrested person as S Sameer, of Arivozhi Nagar near Kovaipudur in the city. According to a police officer, Sameer was recently hired as a driver by a 39-year-old woman from Kovaipudur who had attached her car to an app-based taxi service. "Two days ago, Sameer did not show up for work. When the car owner called him, he said his phone was not working and requested her to arrange for an alternate phone." The woman gave him her old mobile phone after deleting all personal data, the officer said. "On Friday night, Sameer called the woman and claimed that he had seen private pictures of her on the phone she had given him. Following this, she asked him to return her mobile phone. Sameer visited her house the same night and threatened her by saying that he had seen her private pictures," the officer said. Since her husband was not at home, the woman, with the help of neighbors, informed police about the incident and formally lodged a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur police on Saturday. Police registered a case against Sameer under sections 296 (b), 77 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and arrested him. Woman molested in road rage, 13 booked
Ahmedabad: A minor road accident in Nikol on Rakshabandhan (Aug 9) night spiralled into violence, with a woman allegedly molested and injured. The incident occurred around 8.30pm near Nikol Raspan Crossroads when a family's car collided with a scooter rider. According to the complaint, the family — a man, his wife, and two children — tried to leave to avoid confrontation, but the scooter riders followed them to Bhakti Circle and began banging on the car. One rider allegedly smashed the windshield, injuring the woman inside, and then tried to pull her T-shirt and in the process tore it. The complainant said more people joined the alleged attackers, assaulting the family despite complainant's brother arriving to help.
