Samsung fans snap up £548 freebies as shoppers rush for £46 a month Sky deal
If shoppers on the hunt for fantastic bargains, Samsung is currently offering a host of free extras and cashback deals on their products. We recently reported that Samsung is giving away £300 cashback with the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra - and now there's good news for mobile phone enthusiasts too.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with some hefty freebies for those who choose to purchase the handset or take out a contract. Sky is offering the Galaxy S25 Ultra for just £46 per month with an upfront cost of £12.
Alongside this, customers will receive a complimentary Galaxy Tab A9+ tablet and a Galaxy Watch7. However, it's worth noting that the Sky contract spans 36 months, meaning over the course of the contract, customers will pay £1668, excluding any data costs.
It's a cost-effective way to spread the payment, but customers will pay more in the long run while receiving numerous freebies. For those who decide to snap up the phone, they can visit this promotional page by Samsung to enter their details and claim the free items once they have the phone.
But if shoppers want another phone, there's also Carphone Warehouse, which has a range of other deals to explore. And for Apple fans, Giffgaff also has a reasonable monthly price on its iPhone 16 Pro with a £24 a month plan with a slightly more expensive £25 upfront cost if users want to shop around.
Tech gurus at the Daily Express have put the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra through its paces, and it's safe to say that they were thoroughly wowed by this AI-driven mobile wonder. Tech editor Dave Snelling remarked: "Samsung has done it again and produced another spectacularly good smartphone. The Galaxy S25 Ultra looks great, features a stunning 6.9-inch screen, a brilliant camera, long battery life, and that supremely quick Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
"It also gets all of those Galaxy AI upgrades that can organise your life, retouch your photos, chat to you like a human and bring live football scores straight to the home screen."
Nevertheless, David found some aspects of the AI technology to be daunting, noting: " It's all clever stuff, but for some, it might just be a bit too smart.
"There's so much Artificial Intelligence now included that it can all feel slightly overwhelming and only power users (and true AI geeks) are going to get close to scratching the surface of what this device can really do.
"That doesn't make this a bad phone. In fact, it's a very good phone. It just feels like all of Samsung's development is going into the software rather than boosting the hardware. Perhaps the AI revolution in smartphones is happening because there's little else left to innovate or enhance. One might ponder whether a new phone is necessary at all - they say AI is the solution.
"If the brilliant S24 Ultra gets the S25's Galaxy AI upgrades - and the price continues to fall due to its age - that might also be a better bet. However, if you really want the best Galaxy on the planet, then the S25 Ultra won't disappoint. It's a very, very smart phone!".

Breakingviews - Samsung's $16.5 bln Tesla coup comes with caveats
HONG KONG, July 29 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Samsung Electronics ( opens new tab finally has some good news. In posts on his X social media platform on Sunday, Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab CEO Elon Musk detailed, opens new tab that his carmaker has struck a $16.5 billion deal to buy state-of-the-art chips from the South Korean group. Yet the impressive coup, which pushed Samsung's stock up 7% on Monday, comes with some caveats. First, on an annual basis, it works out to $2.1 billion in sales over the agreement's eight-year span. That's nowhere near enough to turn things around at Samsung's foundry business. Its operating loss topped 5 trillion won ($3.6 billion) in the first quarter and widened in the second quarter, estimates Fitch Ratings' Shelley Zhang. Granted, Musk also said that the contract, which includes advanced A16 chips, "is just the bare minimum" and demand could end up being "several times higher". But Musk is notorious for over-egging production estimates. Even if he's right, Tesla's patronage is unlikely to be enough to turn around Samsung's foundry fortunes alone. That'll require Chair Jay Y. Lee finding ways to parlay Musk's leap of faith into a broader contract chip-manufacturing business able to snatch share from the $1 trillion market leader TSMC ( opens new tab. That may not be straightforward. An unusual decision to allow Musk to walk production lines and work with Samsung to 'maximize manufacturing efficiency' could force the company to share crucial know-how. That might put off other potential customers. Tesla is a risky partner in other ways, too. Last week, Musk said that the company faces a 'few rough quarters' given waning U.S. support for battery power. The electric-vehicle maker is also losing share in China and Europe. Long-term bets, including robotaxis and the Optimus robot, are not necessarily going to fill the gap. Meanwhile, Samsung is under pressure to show it can execute. Its high bandwidth memory chips failed tests set by another key customer, Nvidia (NVDA.O), opens new tab, due to heat and power consumption problems, Reuters reported last year. Although it has been able to develop cutting-edge chips like the 2-nanometre device Musk needs, ensuring high yield and quality at scale is tough. Making the chips at an untested U.S. plant adds further uncertainty. Falling short would jeopardise the project's profitability, as well as whether or not Tesla sticks with them. Lee will welcome Tesla on board, but he'd be wise to buckle up for the ride. Follow @KatrinaHamlin, opens new tab on X

Samsung Electronics shares fall 1% after rallying on Tesla deal
Seoul, July 29 (Reuters) - Shares in Samsung Electronics ( opens new tab fell 1% on Tuesday after the South Korean technology company staged a powerful rally in the previous session on news of a $16.5 billion deal to supply chips to Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab. The deal could bolster the technology company's unprofitable contract business, but Samsung faces challenges in securing additional large customers, analysts said. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said late on Sunday that Samsung's new chip factory in Taylor, Texas, would make the auto company's next-generation AI6 chip, without elaborating on the timing of the production.
