Look of the Week: Lindsay Lohan just recreated this iconic ‘Freaky Friday' costume
Over two decades have passed since the release of Disney's comedy film 'Freaky Friday,' but at the sequel's premiere in London on Thursday, it seemed like no time at all.
Chemistry abound between Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan — who are reprising their roles as mother Tess Coleman and daughter Anna — as they posed for photos amongst confetti. Even the red carpet was designed in lilac and green, reminiscent of the poster artwork for the original 2003 film.
Lohan, who starred in the first film when she was just 16 years old, amped up the nostalgia further with her choice of outfit: a custom lavender metal mesh dress by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, which was embellished with Swarovski crystals, and a sparkling Judith Leiber guitar-shaped purse. For eagle-eyed fans, the ensemble might have looked familiar.
It was an ode to one of the original 'Freaky Friday' costumes designed by Genevieve Tyrrell. In the film, after switching bodies for a day, Tess and Anna reach a nirvana of empathy and understanding. Tess accepts Anna's ambitions of becoming a professional musician, while Anna comes to terms with her mother's new relationship. In the closing scene, Anna performs with her band at her mother's wedding, wearing a lilac-colored lace-trimmed two piece by cult 1990s fashion label Mandalay, which served as the inspiration for Sernin's custom gown.
'I've been dreaming and manifesting this moment for nearly 20 years,' Sernin wrote on Instagram. He also thanked Andrew Mukamal, Lohan's influential stylist, who has been widely credited with popularizing method dressing after dressing Margot Robbie in a series of doll-like outfits for the 'Barbie' press tour in 2023.
This is the second time Lohan has paid homage to her 'Freaky Friday' character through her fashion choices. Last month, she was photographed in a leather miniskirt and a tee emblazoned with the words 'Pink Slip' — the name of her band in the film.
From the recent 'Beetlejuice' reboot to the release of 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' the seventh film in its franchise, millennial nostalgia is driving a number of cultural moments in the film industry — and beyond. 'Freaky Friday' is one such example of a cinematic relic that has stood the test of time. At the premiere, Curtis told the BBC she was inspired to take part in the sequel because the film was 'beloved, all over the world.' Lohan agreed. 'The fans love the movie. And that's really important,' she said. 'It makes you want to do it again.'
But perhaps no fan was as excited as Sernin himself. 'I feel overwhelmed with joy and love right now,' he wrote. 'It's a full-circle moment for me.'

S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt and former TV dancer Louie Spence have withdrawn from Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in the first episode of the latest series. The Channel 4 military reality show opened with the 14 celebrity recruits hooded and standing on a breakwater, before they were asked for their identities by chief instructor Billy Billingham – who told many of the celebrities 'don't grin at me'. He then led them on two tasks, the first to plunge 26ft into the water and swim to intercept a boat, which picked them up, and the second to rescue three hostages from a building before blowing it up with a grenade. Before the second challenge began, Spearritt, 44, handed over her number tag to directing staff, telling them 'I'm done, I'm sorry, I've reached a point' – and in a pre-recorded interview which was played after her withdrawal, she said 'I don't think I'll go on the first day' adding she 'wouldn't forgive myself'. During the task, Spence, who is best known for Sky TV show Pineapple Dance Studios, threw a grenade into the building while it still had two hostages in it, and afterwards told the directing staff he wished to withdraw, and was given a second chance to put his armband back on, but turned it down. Spence said: 'I want to do an immediate withdrawal, I just don't have the conviction, and I feel as though I'm not dedicated enough.' He was told that he 'hadn't even started', but Spence replied 'that's what I mean'. After the first task, former model Rebecca Loos was pulled in by directing staff after she gave up during the swimming challenge, who asked her to open up on her alleged affair with footballer Sir David Beckham, who she worked for as a personal assistant, during the interrogation. In an interview before the first task, former Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash said the show would be 'a piece of piss' after growing up as a queer person in Norfolk. After the second task, former Watford striker Troy Deeney, who also threw a grenade into the building before clearing the hostages, was pulled in by the instructors, where he opened up on physical abuse he and his mother received from his late father. The show sees celebrities enter SAS training, where they are not eliminated and are instead culled by the directing staff or able to withdraw themselves, with those who remain at the end declared the winners. The rest of the celebrity recruits are made up of ex-drug mule Michaella McCollum, former footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa, Strictly Come Dancing 2025 runner-up Tasha Ghouri, former The Traitors winner Harry Clark, rapper Lady Leshurr, boxer Conor Benn, singer Lucy Spraggan, and ex-Love Island contestants Chloe Burrows and Adam Collard. Oasis issue heartfelt statement after fan dies after falling at Wembley gig
Oasis has released a statement following the tragic death of a man who fell during their Wembley Stadium concert on Saturday evening. Emergency crews were called to reports of an injured person at 10.19pm on Saturday (August 2) near the conclusion of the band's show at the 90,000-capacity venue in London. They were performing at Wembley as part of their massive comeback tour, which has already taken the Britpop band to Cardiff, Manchester, and now the capital. A man in his 40s was declared dead at the scene after police and paramedics rushed to assist following his fall from seating 170ft above ground level at the London stadium. In a statement issued on Sunday, officers revealed they are seeking witnesses to come forward with details about the incident, reports Manchester Evening News. "A man - aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage." The police statement ended with an appeal for information, stating: "If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101, quoting 7985/02AUG." Following the incident, Oasis released a statement on Sunday evening saying: "We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved." Wembley Stadium also issued a statement: "Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London ambulance service and the police attended to a concertgoer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. "Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers." Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo cancelled for first time in 75 years
THe Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been cancelled amid warnings of Storm Floris, it has been announced. It is the first weather-related cancellation in the event's 75 -year history. Performances were previously cancelled during the pandemic in both 2020 and 2021. An amber weather warning is in place for the majority of Scotland between 10am and 10pm on Monday. The cancellation is for the August 4 performance at 9.30pm. An emergency planning meeting had been called on Sunday afternoon to discuss the latest developments as the storm made its way across the Atlantic towards Scotland. 'We understand this will be disappointing, but the safety of our audience, performers and staff is our top priority. 'All tickets for the 4th August performance will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Those wishing to rebook will find up-to-date availability at Elsewhere, The City of Edinburgh Council said they would be closing Princes Street Gardens on Monday and Tuesday "due to high winds". It comes after ScotRail announced that no trains will run on a range of key railway lines from midday on Monday due to high wind speeds expected from 10am. Scots are being warned to plan ahead as the storm is set to batter parts of the country with winds of up to 85mph. Network Rail also announced on Sunday afternoon that it would be taking measures to keep passengers safe amid the bad weather.
