Thursday Murder Club trailer gives first glimpse at David Tennant's character

David Tennant will play Ian Ventham in the highly anticipated Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club The first full-length trailer for The Thursday Murder Club film adaptation has dropped, offering fans a first glimpse of David Tennant and Sir Jonathan Pryce in their roles. ‌ The highly anticipated film is based on the bestselling book series by game show host and author Richard Osman. The story follows a group of crime-solving retirees, portrayed by a star-studded cast including Oscar-winner Dame Helen Mirren, former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, Calendar Girls star Celia Imrie and Gandhi's Sir Ben Kingsley. ‌ Director Chris Columbus, known for his work on Harry Potter, previously revealed in an interview with Collider that Doctor Who star Tennant, 54, would play Ian, the owner of Coopers Chase retirement village - the setting for much of the action. Sir Jonathan Pryce, 78, takes on the role of Stephen, the husband of Dame Helen's character, Elizabeth. ‌ The trailer, released following a teaser back in May, features a glimpse of Tennant's character, seen with slicked-back hair and a Dolce & Gabbana T-shirt, looking angry. In one clip, he declares: "I'm not worried about the cantankerous old farts." Meanwhile, Sir Jonathan's character is shown in a brown cardigan, blue shirt and glasses. He plays Stephen, Elizabeth's husband, who suffers from dementia in the book. ‌ Joining the main cast are Saltburn's Richard E. Grant, Miranda star Tom Ellis, Mickey 17 actress Naomi Ackie, Line of Duty's Daniel Mays and Indian Summers actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes. The trailer introduces the audience to the core group: Elizabeth (Mirren), Ibrahim (Kingsley), and Ron (Brosnan), who welcome Joyce (Imrie), a retired nurse, into their amateur sleuthing circle. ‌ Ackie, who plays a police constable, is seen investigating as is May's character who says: 'Police work is off-limits to anyone who isn't the police.' Tension builds in the trailer with scenes of Elizabeth receiving a threatening bouquet of flowers urging her to "back off," and she is later seen bumping into a shadowy figure who warns her not to "wake the dead." Director Columbus praised the cast, saying: 'This is the finest cast I've worked with since Potter. They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theatre, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles.' ‌ Richard Osman has penned four novels in the Thursday Murder Club series so far, with a fifth instalment, The Impossible Fortune, set to be released in September. The TV personality, 54, left the popular BBC quiz show Pointless in 2022 to focus on his writing career after co-hosting with Alexander Armstrong since the show's debut in 2009. The Thursday Murder Club will be released on Netflix on August 28.

Wednesday fans 'spot clue' season 2 cliffhanger is red herring in Tyler twist

Netflix fans are desperate for Wednesday to return to screens after the first part of season 2 dropped this week - and they think she has unfinished business with Tyler. Wednesday: Season 2 official Netflix trailer *Warning - this article contains spoilers for Wednesday season 2 part 1.* ‌ Following the first instalment of Wednesday season 2, countless Netflix viewers have been left stunned by the explosive finale that left our protagonist's survival uncertain. ‌ During an intense climactic confrontation, viewers witness her former adversary and past romantic interest Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) shift into his Hyde form, pursuing his controller Ms Thornhill/Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci) through the corridors of the psychiatric institution where he'd been detained before ultimately slaying her with his talons. ‌ Upon spotting Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) at the corridor's end, the Hyde stops threateningly before her. The scene then shows Wednesday being hurled forcefully through the window onto the pavement beneath, whilst police arrive attempting to restrain the Hyde, who flees into the darkness, reports the Express. ‌ Wednesday's voice then narrates: "I've always dreamed of looking death in the face. But in my final moments, all I hear is my mother's words ringing in my ears. Maybe I have made everything worse... much worse." Despite it appearing improbable that Wednesday and Tyler could reignite their connection - particularly after that part 1 conclusion - supporters believe circumstances might differ now the teenager has finally escaped Ms Thornhill's control. ‌ Will Wednesday and Tyler end up together in season 2? Defying expectations, fans reckon there remains a spark between the otherworldly duo, which appears concerning given her shocking plunge from the window. However, some viewers have pointed out that we never saw Tyler push Wednesday, with some questioning if he even pushed her at all. "I really hope tyler didn't actually throw wednesday out," one person wrote on X, highlighting the ambiguity of the moment in question. "That ENDING? UHHH WEDNESDAY? ? did the hyde/tyler actually do that...? so confused why they didn't show it," another asked suspiciously. ‌ A third wrote: "Tyler did NOT push Wednesday idc to obvious! They didn't show it for a reason, watch it be revealed when they find him that it was someone else!" A fourth agreed: "My theory is tyler wasn't the one who pushed wednesday out of the window a) they didn't show it happening b) ehh I lowkey still ship them even tho I know they're doomed. "I think this makes sense for Tyler's character. And I feel like tyler pushing her is gonna be a huge red herring," one more theorised. ‌ Other fans suggested the pair could have an "enemies to lovers" arc, with one admitting: "I still ship Tyler and Wednesday not sorry I don't give a f*** if he's evil. "From best enemies to lovers ever," one wrote, as another concurred: "He def still has feelings for her." ‌ Reference their intense conversation when Wednesday goes to visit Tyler in his cell, another fan enthused: "TYLER TELLING WEDNESDAY SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM AND THE MONSTER OH MY GOD #Wednesday." However, not everyone was impressed by the theories about the pair having a romantic reunion, with one person writing: "I just feel like anybody who romanticized Tyler and Wednesday scene in his jail something is off with y'all because nothing about that gave me romantic if anything Enid and Wednesday are the real ship even though they're only best friends #Wednesday." So, did Tyler really try to kill Wednesday or was it someone else? Was he actually trying to save her? We're dying to know the full story.

ITV The Fortune Hotel viewers gobsmacked after huge show 'blunder'

The Fortune Hotel returned to ITV this week, and there's already been several twists and turns. The Fortune Hotel viewers were left gobsmacked after a huge show "blunder" on Thursday (August 7). ‌ Hosted by Stephen Mangan, the second series of the ITV show sees 22 new contestants arrive at the hotel in pairs. ‌ They'll each be handed a mysterious briefcase. Most are empty, while one hides a life-changing £250,000 in cash, and another conceals the dreaded early checkout card. ‌ The new season has already featured several twists and turns, with one pair being sent home even before they set foot in the hotel. At the start of tonight's episode, father-and-son duo, Atholl and John, were the second pair to be eliminated after being given a suitcase with the early checkout card. ‌ After the first Lady Luck Bar, partners Fred and Min were the recipients of the jackpot suitcase after Jake and Mike swapped with them. Later, the contestants took part in a challenge to determine the vital case swapping order for the next Lady Luck Bar. They arrived at the beach, where they were greeted by an array of puzzle pieces and treasure chests. ‌ "Today's challenge is a jigsaw puzzle, which doesn't sound that difficult, except the pieces are floating out at sea," host Stephen explained. The contestants had to work together to solve the jigsaw. Once assembled, the jigsaw would reveal a riddle that would help them open a chest. ‌ Each chest contained a number, which would determine their position in the order swap. Fred and Min were the last pair to reach a chest, which happened to contain the number one - meaning they'd be last to swap their case. "We won coming last!" a shocked Min said, with their competitors branding them the "flukiest partnership". ‌ "Fred and Min, are you blundering your way to the fortune?" Stephen then asked. The show's viewers were also astounded at Fred and Min's luck, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. ‌ "How are Fred and Min getting the advantages every time?! Wild," one person wrote, with another adding: "Fred and Min really are a prime example at how your luck can really turn around haha." A third said: "Fred and Min: fake it until you make it motto!!!" With another similarly sharing: "How are Fred & Min the Merciless doing it?" However, their luck might run out soon as a number of pairs seemed to have guessed that they hold the fortune. The Fortune Hotel is available to stream on ITVX
