586 vehicles, 27 driving licences face suspension over unpaid challans
The action may lead to suspension for one to six months, or full cancellation in serious cases, such as repeated offences or involvement in criminal activity. Assistant regional transport officer (administration), Rajesh Chaturvedi, said the list sent by the police includes only vehicle registration numbers and not the names of owners.
These vehicles have more than five pending e-challans, which were issued through the Integrated Police Management System (IPMS) using CCTV footage.
'Many drivers do not know about these challans, as they are not always informed unless they check the e-challan mobile app or receive a notice,' he said. The transport department now plans to send notices to the vehicle owners. They will be asked to pay their pending challans at the RTO. If they do not comply, their vehicle registrations or driving licences could be suspended or cancelled.
Traffic inspector Amit Kumar added that the first list has already been sent, and a second list is almost ready. According to the RTO records, Prayagraj currently has 11,84,226 driving licences on record — including 9,59,382 permanent licences and 2,24,844 endorsed and learner licences.

One killed, 3 injured in bike-scooter head-on collision
Pune: One person was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a scooter and a motorcycle on service road along Chandni Chowk linking the Pune-Bengaluru highway around 1.45pm on Friday. Police identified the deceased as scooter rider Akash Bheke (23) of Pimple Nilakh. His friend, riding pillion, Rutik Eden (22) from Pimple Nilakh, survived with injuries. Nagpur: The streets of Nagpur are turning into open-air kitchens as the number of food trucks rises unchecked. These mobile eateries, often parked on roads and footpaths, are operating in a legal grey zone with virtually no oversight of authorities, posing serious threat to public safety and smooth traffic movement. Despite their growing presence, neither the RTO nor the city traffic police have launched a dedicated drive against these vehicles in recent times. Even though action has been taken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the traffic department on roadside food eateries, there has been no dedicated campaign against food trucks. According to sources, many of these food trucks are extensively and illegally modified into fully functional 'kitchens on wheels' at a cost of several lakhs of rupees. The modifications are far from cosmetic. In many trucks, interiors are stripped and rebuilt to fit commercial-grade kitchen equipment. Heavy-duty gas stoves, water storage tanks, chimney vents, wood-fired ovens, and even welded steel platforms are now common features inside these vehicles. There is a need for involvement of multiple agencies during such drives," the official emphasized. Experts also warn that using gas cylinders in public spaces — especially inside closed, metal structures like trucks — can lead to serious accidents, including explosions. "These vehicles should also be checked for valid food safety licences and fire safety clearances," said a source. Amid growing public concerns, sources indicate that the traffic police and RTO are now considering a joint enforcement drive to clamp down on illegal food trucks. RTO detects misuse of eKYC-based faceless system, 3 learner licences cancelled
1 2 Nagpur: The Regional Transport Office (Nagpur City) cancelled the learner licences of three individuals after detecting misuse of the eKYC-based faceless system. The action followed an internal probe which revealed that the candidates shared their Aadhaar-linked OTPs with third parties, who then took the online test on their behalf. Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Dhwaj Dakhne lodged a complaint with Sitabuldi Police Station on July 10, 2025, seeking an investigation into the matter. According to RTO officials, the faceless system was designed to eliminate human intervention by using biometric verification and OTP-based authentication, but this case exposed vulnerabilities in its implementation. According to the RTO's findings, three candidates allegedly shared their eKYC-generated OTPs with third-party representatives, who then appeared for the learner licence test on their behalf. The RTO submitted that all relevant evidence, including audio recordings, will be provided to the police. Personal notices are expected to be issued to the candidates to seek their explanation before further departmental action. A senior official from Sitabuldi Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint and said coordination is ongoing with the RTO. "We have asked the RTO to verify the case at their level and identify the three individuals who indulged in malpractice. Once we receive proper documentation and evidence to the matter, legal action will follow," the official said. "This incident is a serious breach of the faceless service system, which was introduced to simplify the licensing process. Sharing OTPs to let someone else take the test is a clear violation of the law and undermines the system's credibility," said Kiran Bidkar, Regional Transport Officer, Nagpur (City). Bidkar added that the licences have already been cancelled and a formal police complaint has been lodged. "Citizens are strictly advised not to misuse the faceless system. If any such fraud is found, we will take stringent action in the interest of road safety and system integrity," he said.
