Patrick Mahomes seems overjoyed by Tuesday's significant Kansas Chiefs news.
The Chiefs officially signed Trey Smith to a long-term extension. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Smith received a four-year, $94 million deal with $70 million guaranteed, making him the NFL's highest-paid guard.

Mahomes appeared to celebrate the news by posting a smiling emoji on social media.
The star quarterback is understandably happier knowing Smith will stay in Kansas City beyond 2025.
Smith has started 80 of 81 games (playoffs included) since the Chiefs made him a sixth-round pick in 2021. He allowed zero sacks and five quarterback hits in 1,115 snaps last season, committing just nine penalties.
Pro Football Focus graded him 14th among 136 qualified guards last season. Smith followed his first Pro Bowl nod by playing in his third consecutive Super Bowl.
Kansas City kept Smith away from free agency by exercising the franchise tag earlier this offseason. The 26-year-old would have played on a one-year, $23.4 million deal had he not reached an extension by Tuesday's deadline.

Mahomes no longer has to worry about losing an offensive mainstay next year. Smith will keep anchoring an offensive line that added left tackle Jaylon Moore and left guard Kingsley Suamataia alongside All-Pro center Creed Humphrey and right tackle Jawaan Taylor. The Chiefs also drafted tackle Josh Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick.

Despite Smith's strong 2024, the unit will look to improve this season. The ground game averaged just 4.0 yards per carry, and Mahomes got sacked six times in a lopsided Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
A newly paid Smith will lead the Chiefs to Brazil to open their 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, Sept. 5.

2025 NFL Odds: Early Week 1 Best Bets For Chargers-Chiefs, Vikings-Bears

Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025. That date might seem a long way away since many of us are enjoying the warm summer months and burning ample vacation days. Don't you worry, though. NFL games will light up our television screens very, very soon. I'm mostly an underdog bettor in the regular season and am almost magnetically attracted to divisional underdogs in Week 1. And there's just something about a team catching a small number against a public darling. Here are three NFL dogs to consider for opening week. Los Angeles Chargers (+2.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs To Sao Paulo we go for this Friday night tilt. Las Vegas oddsmakers opened this game just shy of a field goal, and it hasn't budged one bit. There's clearly built-in respect to open a team +2.5 instead of +3, and it's a good sign for the Chargers it hasn't ticked up yet. You might have heard the stat about Patrick Mahomes being 19-4 as a starting quarterback in the month of September and surely, it's not ideal to be on the other side of that. But trends were meant to be broken. I will have my money on Jim Harbaugh and the Bolts as a very live 'dog in Brazil. If you want to hold out for a +3, so be it. PICK: Chargers (+2.5) to lose by fewer than 2.5 points or win outright Atlanta Falcons (+2.5) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Please get the best number in this one. BetMGM and DraftKings are dealing Atlanta +2.5, while Pinnacle and South Point are at +1.5, CRIS and SuperBook are +1 and Circa has a pick 'em. I have little sympathy for anybody who bets Falcons PK instead of +2.5. Seriously. All Atlanta hype revolves around second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr., a southpaw with an absolute rifle under center. The Falcons have been accumulating skill players for years, but they thought Kirk Cousins, off an Achilles injury, was the solution in 2024. Close but no cigar. The market feels some type of way about the Falcons, as some of the world's sharpest shops have already been hit. I loved them taking defensive studs Jalon Walker (Georgia) and James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee) in Round 1. Go grab that +2.5 while you still can. PICK: Falcons (+2.5) to lose by fewer than 2.5 points or win outright Minnesota Vikings (+1.5) @ Chicago Bears After gambling on the NFL Thursday, Friday and Sunday, we get one more crack Monday night between Caleb Williams and J.J. McCarthy. As a native Chicagoan, I need two hands to count the amount of times the Bears won the draft or offseason and expectations were unfairly high all summer. It's not that I don't believe in Williams or new head coach Ben Johnson, I want to be patient with a QB learning another new system. Meanwhile, McCarthy spent his entire rookie season learning Kevin O'Connell's system after tearing his meniscus last August. He'll be playing behind an improved offensive line with Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Rondale Moore and T.J. Hockenson at the skill positions. It's difficult to put a young quarterback in a better spot. Minnesota's 53-man roster is one of the best in the league and I think the Vikings go into Soldier Field and leave with a victory. PICK: Vikings (+1.5) to lose by fewer than 1.5 points or win outright Sam Panayotovich is a sports betting analyst for FOX Sports and the BetMGM Network. Broncos LT Garett Bolles changed his playing style: 'It's more sexy'

Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles was late to reach the NFL after serving a two-year LDS Church mission right out of high school. He then spent three years at the college level before going pro as a 25-year-old prospect. Now entering his ninth season in the NFL, a 33-year-old Bolles had adapted his playing style. 'I think my passion at a young age, I just wanted to put everyone in the dirt all the time," Bolles said in June. "Now I think it's more sexy to stay in front of somebody and block them with your feet and hands. The reality is, [if] you want to be the best tackle in the league, you talk about some of the greats — that's what they did. They stayed in front of the guy. They moved their feet and they played a long time." Bolles hopes to play until he's 38 or 39 years old. In addition to changing his playing style, he has also become more intentional with taking care of his body during his career. "I also think it comes to taking care of your body and knowing what you're going to put in," Bolles said. "You're not going to put bad gas in a Ferrari or a Lambo. You're going to put in the best gas. 91, 95 octane. That's just what it takes. When you get older, you have to focus on the little things. That's eating right, that's sleeping right, that's training and just getting disciplined in everything you do. The game's the same. The speed's the same. I'm more confident in that, but when it just comes to taking care of your body and making sure you're doing everything right, which we do a really good job here, I can play as long as I can.' Bolles, the team's longest-tenured player, has started 116 games for the Broncos since 2017. If he plays as long as he hopes to, Bolles could have another 100 games left in the tank. Jaguars Liam Coen on why strength coach Eric Ciano was a must-hire

Jaguars' HC Liam Coen highlighted on the latest episode of 'The Hunt' why hiring strength coach Eric Ciano was a move he had to make. On the latest episode of 'The Hunt,' Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen outlined why hiring Eric Ciano as the Director of Strength and Conditioning was a must-make move earlier this offseason. "Right when we ended up making a change and Eric ended up transitioning out of Buffalo," Coen recalled, "I was inundated with a ton of calls and texts from a lot of people that I respect within this profession. And then you get to know him, get him on the interview, and it was exactly what we needed." Cedric Scott had been the Jaguars' Director of Strength and Conditioning since the 2022 season and had been in the Jaguars' organization since 2012. Coen made the decision in February, however, to go in a different direction. Ciano, meanwhile, was let go by the Bills earlier this offseason as well. There, he was the team's long-time strength and conditioning coach. The 2025 season will be Ciano's 16th in the NFL. "You look at his track record," Coen added, "going back all the years in Buffalo in how consistent they were, in terms of being healthy at the tops of the NFL. The ability in Buffalo to be physical, strong, tough, the toughness was the aspect that I really wanted to provide to the players and we felt it pretty immediately." Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen said that Ciano has a "very calm demeanor," but he's "very intense with the workouts." Darnell Savage added that Ciano is a "fiery guy, locked in, and just a guy you'd like to go to work with."
