'A beautiful soul': South African murdered on luxury yacht in Bahamas, days before 21st birthday
Police in the Bahamas have arrested another crew member, a Mexican man aged 39, in connection with her death on July 3 on the 'Far From It' superyacht. He appeared in court briefly on Wednesday where bail was denied, according to news reports there.
She had been planning to return home to celebrate her 21st birthday on July 14 with family and friends.
This is according to the crew of the motor yacht 'Sweet Emocean' on which she had worked as a stewardess until December. They have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her family.
'Paige was more than a teammate, she was family. Her radiant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless compassion made an unforgettable impact on everyone lucky enough to know her. Whether it was long days at sea or quiet moments under the stars, she brought light and warmth wherever she went,' they shared.
The crowdfunding campaign in honour of Bell, who they called 'a beautiful soul', has so far raised US $44,631 (about R792,587) from 542 donations.
The Hillcrest high school near Durban has also paid tribute to her, saying she would be remembered 'as an incredibly special young lady who was the happiest, most bubbly person.' She matriculated there in 2022.
Her sister Chelsey Jacobs, in a Facebook post shared by Palma Yacht Crew, said their parents Michelle and John Bell had flown to the Bahamas ' to begin the painful process of not only bringing their baby girl home, but also seeking justice for the monster that took her life.'
Thanking donors for their pledges, she said: 'We are devastated beyond words, and now we must also navigate complex and costly legal proceedings in a foreign country, something far beyond our family's financial means. We are grateful for your love, support, and solidarity during this incredibly difficult time.'

Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, spokesperson for the North West police, said the information police had was that family members were travelling to Morokweng from Tseoge village on Saturday evening. At some point during the journey, the girl's mother alighted from a motor vehicle and went to a nearby tavern, and her daughter followed her, said Mokgwabone. Fourth suspect arrested in murder of Eastern Cape chief whip Xoliseka Lali
A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of the Eastern Cape's Emalahleni local municipality chief whip Xoliseka Lali, after an intensive investigation by the provincial serious violent crime investigation and tracing unit. Police spokesperson Brig Nobuhle Gantana said Lali was shot dead at his home in Komani (Queenstown) on July 21. Three suspects — Bavuyise Mdingi, Mvuzo Mafanya and Sonwabiso Siko — were arrested in Mthatha on Monday. Their case was enrolled in the Komani magistrate's court on Wednesday and postponed to August 6 for legal representation. On Wednesday, investigators traced and arrested a fourth suspect in Mthatha. Gantana said 'the suspect co-operated with authorities and led them to a friend's house, where three unlicensed pistols and ammunition were recovered'. The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine any link to other crimes. A separate case of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition has been opened. The fourth suspect and his friend face these charges and are expected to appear in the Mthatha magistrate's court on Thursday. According to Gantana, the fourth suspect will also be charged with Lali's murder and is scheduled to appear in the Komani magistrate's court on Friday. Acting Eastern Cape police commissioner Maj-Gen Thandiswa Kupiso commended the investigation team for their swift action and the recovery of the illegal weapons. The investigation is continuing. Cops call for information after suspected hit on Gqeberha prosecutor
A Gqeberha public prosecutor was shot dead outside her house on Thursday, in what appears to have been a hit. Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could help in their investigation. Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the incident unfolded after the public prosecutor arrived at her home in Lotton Street, Young Park, at about 3.30pm on Thursday. 'While still seated in her vehicle, a Toyota Etios, four unknown suspects wearing masks stopped in a white VW Polo in the street,' Janse van Rensburg said. 'They got out of the vehicle and multiple shots were fired at her vehicle. 'The deceased was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds but passed away on her arrival. 'The motive and the suspects are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. 'The name of the deceased will be released once she has been officially identified.' A person who worked with her at the New Brighton court said the murdered prosecutor was a mother and a diligent court official. 'She dealt with some big cases and did a fantastic job. We are all devastated by what has happened. 'The SAPS Algoa Park detective is appealing to anyone who can provide information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects involved in the murder to come forward.'
