Star of 90s horror reboot wanted to go 'all gas' on gore in new film
Madelyn Cline has lifted the lid on those brutal death scenes in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, sharing that she was excited to go 'all gas' on the gore.
After what feels like years of waiting, the horror sequel is in cinemas now, and focuses on a group of friends being hunted by a vengeful hook-wielding killer.
The Outer Banks star leads the cast of the revival, alongside Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Jonah Hauer-King and Tyriq Withers, while OG icons Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr reprised their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson respectively.
Following director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's promise that the terrifying aspect would be 'ratcheted up to 100', movie lovers were sent into a spin when a teaser showed one character being stabbed with a harpoon.
However, speaking to Metro ahead of the premiere, Madelyn – who plays Danica – told us that the slasher follow-up wasn't quite as gruesome as she was hoping for.
When asked if she jumped straight into the stunts, gore and blood, or if anything went wrong at any point, she laughed: 'I think, to me, it was not gore-heavy enough … We wanted to go all gas, no breaks.
'Everything went really smoothly. We had at least a month of prep with stunts and lots and lots of tests to make sure because Jen is very meticulous.
'That's why I think she is the person to tell this story, because she's very specific. She's very meticulous, and she cares deeply about the way everything turns out.
'Everything was great.'
To be fair, the trailer showed Danica enjoying a relaxing bath while her co-star was being attacked by the harpoon so she may have missed that particular moment…
In the new flick, a group of friends accidentally cause a deadly car accident before covering up their involvement and making a pact to keep it a secret – something that locals in Southport know a lot about…
Unfortunately for the gang, their past comes back to haunt them, and they find themselves stalked by a mysterious killer hell-bent on revenge exactly a year after the fateful incident.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1997 and became an instant hit, with Julie and Ray jetting out to the Bahamas for the sequel the following year.
With the success of the franchise so far, Madelyn conceded that the cast felt 'pressure' to do the original movies justice, while giving everything a 'modern' twist.
'Well, yes, of course! I think we knew going into it, it was going to be its own,' she continued. More Trending
'It's not a standalone, but definitely the goal was to compliment the original and bring back what made the original so good as much as we possibly could.
'But also reintroduce new elements, and give a modern twist, and hopefully bring back everything that people loved, and also give them something to look forward to.'
What are you waiting for…?

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more In a world where there are countless beauty products dropping every other week it can be hard to keep up. But, we are here to help you sift through and find the absolute best beauty buys. One of which is P. Louise's Rumour Base, which is a multi-purpose product that is flying off the shelves. According to the brand, one tube of the Rumour Base is sold every minute, which is quite something. So what is all the hype? This base is not only suitable for use on the delicate eye area, but the rest of the face too. It is ultra pigmented and a little goes a long way. Simply sweep on the eyelid as an eyeshadow primer, under the eye as a primer before concealer, or colour match to apply as a concealer itself. It also doubles as a foundation, though you can loosen the texture with a moisturiser to apply as a lightweight tinted moisturiser. Alternatively, apply on specific areas of the face as a contour or highlighter. Available in 12 shades, including a clear option, all of which come in either a 15ml or 30ml tube. BUY NOW FOR £10 The Rumour Base is not only super affordable, but when you consider how many products it is in one it makes for an even more cost effective beauty purchase. P. Louise's Rumour Base initially functioned as an eye primer to prevent creases under the eye after layering concealer or foundation, as well as an eyeshadow primer. However, it can be used in numerous other ways. The P. Louise Rumour Base is available in 12 shades, including a clear option to blend seamlessly into the skin. Considering it is a gentle product to use on the eye area and the fact it's available in numerous shades means you can also apply all over the face as a primer or foundation too. Apply the clear option on the eyes, as well as full face for a primer, alternatively find the perfect skin tone match to wear under the eyes or buffed all over the skin like a full-coverage foundation for a flawless complexion. If you prefer a tinted moisturiser, simply blend with a moisturiser and buff into the skin to loosen the consistency. While it can be used as a skin base, the Rumour Base can also be relied on as a contour, bronzer and highlighter simply by blending a slightly brighter or deeper shade along the highpoints of the face. The beauty of the Rumour Base is it is ultra-pigmented for full coverage, though it can be sheered down with a moisturiser if you prefer a lightweight texture and second-skin finish. The cream formula is also long wearing so you can be sure your make-up will stay in place for hours of wear without creasing or catching in the pores. The Rumour Base comes in two sizes, a miniature 15ml and 30ml version, so you can take it on the go. With over 1,200 reviews it's safe to say this versatile product is a hit with shoppers. More Trending One customer, Aleksandra, shared: 'Perfect base, doesn't crease. I am absolutely in love with it.' A second shopper, named Mackenzie, added: 'This is THE BEST eyeshadow primer I have ever used. I am never going to use another primer ever again. It sits so smoothly and it's never drying. 10000/10. I love it.' While another gushed: 'As a make-up artist, your brand is my favorite to use! I haven't found another that compares!' The tarot's Year of The Hermit — what your star sign can expect for the rest of
I don't know how 2025 has gone for you so far (good, I hope). But did you know that this is, in numerology, a '9' year (2+0+2+5=9) which links to the ninth card of the tarot, The Hermit, and therefore the perfect time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your inner wisdom. The Hermit is soulful in solitude, at ease with his own mind and spirit, and constantly learning, receiving insight and wisdom that he uses to guide his decisions and life plans. Burnout, detachment and inner healing are key societal themes at the moment, so perhaps this Hermit archetype couldn't be more relevant. And now we're more than halfway through the year, perhaps you can see yourself starting to retreat from the crowds, the noise, the social media chatter, the constant outside influences and pressures. Look within, go within, seek your own peace within that no one else can disturb. No one is allowed in your head but you. You can embody Hermit energy through the likes of a daily pause, quiet courage, or intentional stillness — and to help you along I'd like to share a free, guided meditation I created in collaboration with my friend Alicja in Ireland. It only takes 15 minutes, and should be done, ideally, with headphones in when you have time to be still, quiet, and alone. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video As I'm launching my new tarot and oracle deck, 'The Light In The Dark' – designed to help people find strength, hope, and encouragement in difficult times – in a Hermit year, this meditation seemed like the ideal ally to itsdeck's healing power. Now though, let's look at what lies ahead for you in the remainder of this Hermit year. How can you align with the insights, wisdom, and guidance meant just for you, to take through the autumn and winter into fulfilment and optimism for 2026? Let the tarot guide you with my mini forecast for what remains… Tarot card for the rest of the Year of the Hermit: Four of Cups Your message from The Hermit is to practice gratitude. Don't take this as a slight, or a feeling that you're un grateful. Rather, this is a nudge to amplify your natural optimism and appreciation for your lucky, happy life because that is the key to making it even better. Like attracts like. If you vibrate at a negative, unappreciative, bored, flat frequency then that is what you'll attract more of. No thanks! So, start a gratitude practice. A journal, a list, a daily prayer, a candle lit each evening and a tableside chat about the good things which happened that day, or even a mantra repeated morning, lunch and evening e.g. 'I welcome miracles. I live in gratitude. I attract abundance.' Tarot card for the rest of the Year of the Hermit: The Moon Your message from The Hermit is to research yourself! Take the rest of 2025 to really, truly get under your own skin and find answers to the unanswered questions, mysteries, riddles, and unfinished business in your realm. You are a conundrum. You deserve attention and study. Good questions to meditate on and pursue/test/research, if nothing obvious is on your mind, might include: What do I need to feel safe, loved, and fully myself? What patterns do I keep repeating — and what are they trying to teach me? When do I feel most alive, aligned, and at peace? What am I afraid people might discover about me — and why? What am I no longer willing to abandon myself for? Tarot card for the rest of the Year of the Hermit: The Hierophant Your message from The Hermit is to take something deeply personal, meaningful, soulful, spiritual and inspiring to you (something you want to root in your future, learn more about, become an expert in) and join a circle, forum, class, workshop, or group to do so. This might be an educational, even career-based, learning goal, or a spiritual practice, a creative enterprise or skill. You have nurtured this wish or desire solo for long enough. Your goal now in 2025 is to join into a collective with like-minded folk and accelerate your learning and practice. It's time to join in, collaborate, share, and receive help from others. This will be the game-changing step. This will make this wish a reality in your everyday life. Tarot card for the rest of the Year of the Hermit: Six of Cups More Trending Your message from The Hermit is to spend this next part of 2025 reconnecting with your inner child. The best parts of your childhood are locked in your heart and soul as deep nostalgia. There is so much love and authenticity there. Tap into it. Your inner child knows you better than anyone. They understand what makes you tick, what you love doing, what your potential really is, and how to relax, enjoy, live easy and well. The Hermit wants you to take a sentimental journey to discover these shadowed parts of the history and character. The following mantra might ignite new memories and ideas: 'It's safe to be soft. It's safe to be curious. It's safe to be me.' View More » Getting out your old music, photos, books, school work, albums, family history, games, or clothes may trigger thoughts too. We often circle our inner child our whole adult lives, only to realise they were waiting for us to notice them, take their advice, and be who we always were anyway! Do you have a story to share? Erik Menendez hospitalised with 'serious' condition before hearing for release
Erik Menendez has reportedly been diagnosed with a 'serious' health condition and hospitalised just weeks before a parole hearing he and his brother have long awaited. The 54-year-old – who along with his brother Lyle, 57, has spent decades in prison for murdering their parents in 1989 – is so ill that his lawyer is urging California's governor to release him right away. 'It's a serious condition,' Mark Geragos told TMZ. 'I just think he should be parole furloughed, I think is the proper term, and he could be medically furloughed in advance of the hearing so that he can work with the parole attorney and get up to speed and be ready and do it and give it his best shot. In an update on Tuesday afternoon, TMZ reported that Erik is being treated for kidney stones. Geragos said his client's condition is so serious that Governor Gavin Newsom should release him before the parole hearing scheduled for August 21 and 22. Though Erik is receiving medical treatment in prison, he presumably would benefit from seeing a specialist outside the confines of the Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. The siblings were sentenced to life in prison without parole for shooting dead their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, inside their Beverly Hills home. Erik and Lyle, then 18 and 21 years old, claimed that their father, who was RCA Records' chief operating officer, sexually abused them and that their former pageant queen mum turned a blind eye to that. The brothers have argued that their dad threatened to kill them if they told anyone, and that they acted in self-defence. But prosecutors said the brothers murdered their parents out of greed and pointed to their lavish spending after the killings. On May 13, the brothers were resentenced to 50 years to life in prison, which made them eligible for parole. The final decision on if the Menendez brothers are suitable for parole lies with Newsom. On Sunday, the Democratic governor spoke about the case with Ryan Murphy, who created the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. More Trending The governor said he has not watched the Netflix show in order to avoid it influencing his decision on whether the brothers should be freed. 'I'm going to see if I made the right decision,' Newsom said with a laugh. 'Like, 'Jesus, I should've watched this before.'' Newsom could also seek to grant the brothers clemency, but has said he will hold off until their last parole board hearing to make that decision.
