Probe ordered into complaint of discrimination against RTE students in Barwani school
District Education Officer and district project convenor (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) in Barwani formed a five-member committee to investigate the complaint of rule violation and discrimination against tribal children admitted through RTE. The committee will submit inquiry report within three days.
Niwali block resource coordinator Mahendra Singh Rathore told TOI that as per the complaint of 13 tribal parents of Merkhedi village, the private school run under CBSE in English medium operates from 8 am to 1 pm.
The children admitted under RTE were being called to school after 1pm for the last one year. The parents said that holding separate classes in the afternoon was against the rules and it prevented students from participating in morning prayers and extracurricular activities.
They also complained that the school was charging fees and then providing uniforms and books.
Rathore said that the matter was reported to district project convener and other senior officials and the complaint was made to district collector, district education officer, block education officer, tehsildar, block resource coordinator, and SDMs of Pansemal and Sendhwa.

Tribal leaders and public representatives visited the school on Friday and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
One of the directors of the school, Piyush Sharma, told TOI, "Since the children were from rural backgrounds, they did not know Hindi or English, so the teachers had difficulty in explaining things to them. As such, their timing was separated. After the protest by the parents, they have now been made to sit with all other children."
He termed the allegations of discrimination as wrong and said that the children of higher classes admitted through RTE study together.

Ya Taj Echoes As Bhonsle Royal Keeps Urs Parcham Flying High
Nagpur: Keeping alive a century-old tradition that reflects Nagpur's pluralistic culture, Jaysinh Bhonsle, member of the royal family of erstwhile Maratha kingdom of Nagpur, hoisted the 'parcham' (banner) on the dome of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Dargah on Friday. Prayers were offered for peace and well-being of the country, marking the beginning of the 103rd Urs of the Sufi saint, who was an icon of communal harmony. The largest Sufi shrine in Maharashtra, Tajbagh dargah is a unique Muslim shrine, where only descendants of a Hindu family have the right to hoist the 'parcham' and mark the beginning of Urs (death anniversary). The six-day event starts on the 22nd of the Islamic month of Muharram. The Sufi master considered Raja Raghuji Raje IV, who ruled Nagpur in the late 19th century as his brother and legend goes the saint willed that only the king's family should hoist the 'parcham' at his mausoleum, Bhonsle told TOI. The first day of Urs witnessed nearly 80,000 pilgrims, including many who came from outside Nagpur to seek blessings, with some even hoping for a miracle. MC commissioner Parminder Pal Singh pointed out the Indore model during the MC house meeting. While addressing the house on Friday, he took responsibility, saying that he alone cannot improve the situation as it has to be a collective effort of the councillors and ward residents.
