Barwani: A probe was ordered on Friday on a complaint against a CBSE-affiliated private school in Niwali tehsil of Barwani. The school allegedly did not allow poor tribal children admitted through Right to Education (RTE) sit with regular students.
District Education Officer and district project convenor (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) in Barwani formed a five-member committee to investigate the complaint of rule violation and discrimination against tribal children admitted through RTE. The committee will submit inquiry report within three days.
Niwali block resource coordinator Mahendra Singh Rathore told TOI that as per the complaint of 13 tribal parents of Merkhedi village, the private school run under CBSE in English medium operates from 8 am to 1 pm.
The children admitted under RTE were being called to school after 1pm for the last one year. The parents said that holding separate classes in the afternoon was against the rules and it prevented students from participating in morning prayers and extracurricular activities.
They also complained that the school was charging fees and then providing uniforms and books.
Rathore said that the matter was reported to district project convener and other senior officials and the complaint was made to district collector, district education officer, block education officer, tehsildar, block resource coordinator, and SDMs of Pansemal and Sendhwa.

Tribal leaders and public representatives visited the school on Friday and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
One of the directors of the school, Piyush Sharma, told TOI, "Since the children were from rural backgrounds, they did not know Hindi or English, so the teachers had difficulty in explaining things to them. As such, their timing was separated. After the protest by the parents, they have now been made to sit with all other children."
He termed the allegations of discrimination as wrong and said that the children of higher classes admitted through RTE study together.

ED arrests Baghel's son in Chhattisgarh liquor ‘scam'

PTI photo RAIPUR: Enforcement Directorate arrested on Friday Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, from his residence in Bhilai after the agency conducted an early morning search at his premises in connection with an alleged Rs 2,100 crore liquor scam during his father's tenure as CM. Chaitanya was presented at a special PMLA court in Raipur which sent him to five-day ED custody, an agency official said, adding that Chaitanya did not cooperate during the searches. The father-son duo stays in the same house, while Baghel also has an MLA residence in Raipur. When ED carried out searches, Baghel was at his Raipur residence and was proceeding to Vidhan Sabha. The timing of the raid, on the last day of the assembly session, triggered sharp political reactions, particularly from the opposition Congress. Bid to suppress debate on tree-felling: Congress ED's early-morning raid and the subsequent arrest of former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel's son Chaitanya set off sharp reactions, with Congress alleging that the move was designed to suppress discussion on deforestation in Tamnar region of Raigarh district linked to a particular industrialist. ED had earlier searched Chaitanya Baghel's premises on March 10 while probing some transactions allegedly linking him and his entities to 'proceeds of crime' in the liquor 'scam' case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The agency did not disclose details of the charges against Chaitanya, but in an earlier press note, it had claimed that some senior bureaucrat, having protection of 'top executive of the state', carried out the scam. Reacting to the arrest, Baghel Senior said the Centre was misusing its agencies to target opposition netas. 'To please their master PM Modi and Amit Shah, they have sent ED to my house. We won't be scared or bow down,' he said. He, however, said he would cooperate with the probe. In this case, ED had in Jan arrested former excise minister Kawasi Lakhma; Anwar Dhebar, brother of Raipur mayor and Congress's Aijaz Dhebar; and senior babus, including IAS officer Anil Tuteja and a telecom service officer, Arunpati Tripathi. After the arrest of Lakhma, ED had claimed that he was 'aware of the complete affairs of the liquor scam, yet he did nothing to stop it'. The agency has accused Lakhma of receiving Rs 2 crore every month from the syndicate involved in illegal liquor trade. ED had also said Lakhma played an important role in policy change, which led to the introduction of FL-10A licence in Chhattisgarh. 'He was an integral part of the syndicate and assisted it by manoeuvring the process and procedures as per their direction,' it said. The agency has so far attached assets worth over Rs 200 crore in the case. Baghel later said, 'The adjournment motion moved by Congress in the Chhattisgarh assembly over tree felling being carried out by Adani Group in Tamnar was disallowed by Speaker Raman Singh. The opposition alleged that there has been no adherence to the PESA Act, no compliance with directives issued by the National Green Tribunal, and even the resolution unanimously passed by the state assembly has been disregarded. Not even a discussion was permitted.' Bringing an adjournment motion in the assembly, leader of the opposition Charandas Mahant and Baghel alleged in their speeches that 'Tamnar coal mine, which has been allotted to Maharashtra State Power Generation Company with its mine operator and developer being Adani, is being run solely for the benefit of a single industrialist, while local residents are being harassed and displaced'.

Ya Taj Echoes As Bhonsle Royal Keeps Urs Parcham Flying High

Nagpur: Keeping alive a century-old tradition that reflects Nagpur's pluralistic culture, Jaysinh Bhonsle, member of the royal family of erstwhile Maratha kingdom of Nagpur, hoisted the 'parcham' (banner) on the dome of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Dargah on Friday. Prayers were offered for peace and well-being of the country, marking the beginning of the 103rd Urs of the Sufi saint, who was an icon of communal harmony. The largest Sufi shrine in Maharashtra, Tajbagh dargah is a unique Muslim shrine, where only descendants of a Hindu family have the right to hoist the 'parcham' and mark the beginning of Urs (death anniversary). The six-day event starts on the 22nd of the Islamic month of Muharram. The Sufi master considered Raja Raghuji Raje IV, who ruled Nagpur in the late 19th century as his brother and legend goes the saint willed that only the king's family should hoist the 'parcham' at his mausoleum, Bhonsle told TOI. The first day of Urs witnessed nearly 80,000 pilgrims, including many who came from outside Nagpur to seek blessings, with some even hoping for a miracle. "Union minister Nitin Gadkari would be visiting the shrine on July 22. Invites have been sent to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other political leaders too," said Pyare Khan, president of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Trust, which manages the shrine that straddles 84 acres. Many devotees have come from abroad too, he said. Crowds began to swell gradually after morning hours, with people jostling for 'ziyarat'. Resting under a makeshift shed, Sheikh Javed, a pilgrim from Seoni in Madhya Pradesh attended to his unwell wife. "She gets dizzy very often. We are getting her treated at a hospital but have come to seek blessings from the saint for her early recovery," he said. Zaheer Warsi, 72, who walks on crutches, has come from Ayodhya. With his left leg injured in an accident, he hopes to gather enough charity from pilgrims to fund his surgery. Syed Tahir from Lucknow came with his son, who suffers epileptic bouts, with a similar hope of 'shifa' (healing). A group of fakirs also sat in a group. A horse carriage gifted to the Baba by King Raghuji stands on display at the shrine. It was made in England and the chassis remains the same, but the body has been refabricated, keeping the old design intact, said Bhonsle. Hindu mystic Gajanan Maharaj was a contemporary of Baba Tajuddin and both rode a buggy on the king's patronage, he said.

MC chief owns up to Mohali's drop in Swachh rankings

1 2 Mohali: In a first, the MC Commissioner owned up to the drop in rank to 11 in Swachh Survekshan, citing multiple reasons for the failure, with source segregation being primary. MC commissioner Parminder Pal Singh pointed out the Indore model during the MC house meeting. While addressing the house on Friday, he took responsibility, saying that he alone cannot improve the situation as it has to be a collective effort of the councillors and ward residents. He said in Indore, the public itself became self-disciplined and managed garbage on its own at the source, and the IMC further processed segregated garbage. However, in Mohali, residents are habitual of throwing mixed garbage into nearby small dumps and then expect the MC to act and achieve a top position in Swachh Survekshan. Parminder said, "I fully take responsibility for the drop in Mohali's rank from 1st to 11th in Swachh Survekshan. Now we will think and work on the ground to get Mohali on top, not just in ranking but physically. For this, the MC needs the full support of councillors who are public representatives, and they must further go and motivate residents to manage the garbage religiously. Then we have plans to put a QR code outside every house so that whenever a garbage collector comes to pick up garbage, he will access the QR code, automatically sending a message to the house owner's mobile phone informing them about the lifting of the garbage. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nvidia's AI Strategy Is Clear - But Is Wall Street Paying Attention? Notably, Mohali slipped to 128th rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, its worst show in the past three years, plummeting 46 spots. According to the latest rankings released by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, Mohali's decline has been attributed to three major shortcomings: unregulated garbage dumping, poor waste segregation at source, and inefficient door-to-door garbage collection. In the state rankings, the city has also slipped from 1st position among 16 cities last year to 11th out of 35 this year.
