War 2 box office collection worldwide Day 2: Hrithik Roshan reclaims territory, Jr NTR's contribution declines as film passes Rs 100 crore mark on Independence Day
The Hindi version of War 2 recorded an overall occupancy rate of 51.52% on Day 2, and made around Rs 40 crore. Morning shows began with a modest 27.16% occupancy, which jumped to 58.71% in the afternoon, peaked at 63.86% in the evening, and saw a slight dip to 56.36% during the night shows. In terms of regional performance, Chennai outperformed all other cities with a staggering 94.75% occupancy. Hyderabad followed closely with 80%, and Lucknow recorded a strong 73.75%. In the Telugu markets, the film saw a remarkable overall occupancy of 68.99%, likely boosted by Jr. NTR's massive fan following. But its overall contribution was lower than day one. Tamil screenings also performed well with an overall occupancy of 54.85%, both significantly higher than the Hindi belt.

War 2, the sixth installment in YRF's Spy Universe, also stars Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and features Bobby Deol in a cameo. Notably, its two-day collection has already surpassed that of its predecessor War, which made Rs 77.77 crore in the same period. It has also overtaken the two-day collection of the last spy universe actioner Tiger 3 (Rs 103.75 crore), starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. However, the film still trails behind Jr NTR's last outing, Devara Part One, which posted a staggering Rs 120.7 crore by its second day.
Reportedly made on a massive budget of Rs 325 crore, War 2 is in direct box office competition with Rajinikanth's Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. While Coolie won the opening day with Rs 65 crore, War 2 pulled ahead on Day 2 with its Rs 56.5 crore haul, as Coolie saw a significant drop, collecting only Rs 53.5 crore. Despite strong openings, both films have received largely negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, with criticism focused on convoluted storylines and underwhelming set pieces. It remains to be seen which film will have the last laugh as the box office race continues.

Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' didn't deserve an 'A' certificate, says Producer Elred Kumar
Chennai: Lauding director Lokesh Kanakaraj's action extravaganza 'Coolie', featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, one of Tamil film industry's well-known producers Elred Kumar has now expressed surprise and displeasure at the film having been given an 'A' certificate by the Censor Board. Taking to his X timeline soon after having watched the film, the producer wrote, "Watched #Coolie @Dir_Lokesh fantastic work. #Rajini sir amazes me, Superstar is always a Superstar! @anirudhofficial elevates the film to another level. Other language films with more violence get U/A, yet #Coolie gets an A? This film didn't deserve that. Something fuzzy, Tamil film fraternity needs to step up." Producer Elred Kumar isn't the only one to have expressed this opinion. Scores of other viewers who watched the film too have expressed a similar opinion. In fact, the decision of the Censor Board to grant an 'A' certificate to the film raised many eyebrows, even before the film's release. The development even had a section of the audience concerned. Family audiences and children form a considerable chunk of actor Rajinikanth's fan base and Coolie getting an 'A' certificate meant that families would be unable to take their children to theatres to watch the eagerly-awaited film. However, despite the A certificate, the film has performed exceptionally well, setting the cash registers to ring at the box office. The film's makers, Sun Pictures, claimed that the film had made a worldwide gross of Rs 151 crores, the highest ever day one worldwide gross made by a Tamil film. Coolie also became the highest overseas Day 1 grosser among Tamil films, making over 8.75 million Dollars. Coolie, which seems to be living up to the huge expectations from it, has made headlines by becoming the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film to date. Rumours doing the rounds in the industry also suggest that director Lokesh Kanakaraj's much awaited action entertainer has reached audiences in over a 100 countries around the world. Hamsini Entertainment, a key player in international film distribution, is backing the film's global distribution. Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars stalwarts from the Indian film industry like Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan. Anirudh has composed the music for the film, marking his fourth consecutive film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Cinematography for the film is by Girish Gangadharan and editing is by Philomin Raj. Interestingly, director Lokesh Kanakaraj had disclosed that 'Coolie', which is Rajinikanth's 171st film, will be a stand alone film and not a part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

The film, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, did not get a spectacular opening, but recovered on the day after that. On Saturday, it was business as usual once again for the film, which has been hampered by poor reviews and average word of mouth. Despite that, the I-Day momentum meant War 2 was able to cross ₹200 crore worldwide, inching closer to breaking even, which is its biggest goal now. Mammootty's ‘Samrajyam' set for 4K comeback; 35 years later, the gangster classic returns
is all set to relive one of its grandest gangster sagas. 'Samrajyam' (1990), directed by Jomon and starring megastar , is returning to theaters after 35 years in a fully remastered 4K Dolby Atmos format. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The producers confirmed via a Facebook handle that the restored version is scheduled to hit theaters in September 2025. Sharing a re-release poster for 'Samrajyam,' the production house wrote, "He conquered once; he'll conquer again. This September! Alexander Mammooka in #Samrajyam 4K DOLBY ATMOS, releasing this September…!!" Beyond Kerala, a Pan-south hit While 'Samrajyam' enjoyed blockbuster status in Kerala, the film had an extraordinary run in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and most notably Andhra Pradesh. Venmathi Lyrical Video - Hridayapoorvam | Mohanlal | Sathyan Anthikad |Sid Sriram|Justin Prabhakaran Scriptwriter Shibu Chakravarthy revealed in an interview with OTT Play that 'Samrajyam' ran for more days in Andhra than in Kerala, giving Mammootty superstar status in Telugu cinema. 'After Samrajyam's release, Mammukka was on par with Telugu superstars,' he shared. Producers would fly him to Hyderabad for discussions, marking the film's legacy as a true crossover hit. The inspirations behind the story Shibu Chakravarthy also opened up about the creative process behind the cult film's screenplay. He drew from Jomon's original vision but layered it with inspiration from the Mahabharata. It was inspired particularly by the story of Kunti and Karna. He also acknowledged Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 'Parinda' (1989) as a key influence. The writer took much effort in adapting its gritty underworld tone into a Malayalam setting. For fans, this re-release is more than just a movie—it's a movie that marked the greatest ever comeback of Mammootty. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On the other hand, it seems that the year 2025 is quite underwhelming for the superstar, as the majority of his films failed to hit the mark. Mammootty's previous outing was the game thriller movie 'Bazooka,' which did not impress the audiences, despite high expectations.
