Those who target Indians will face tough consequences, warns Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said a strong message has gone out to the world that no one should mess with India's citizens, its borders or its defence forces, and those who do so will have to face consequences.
Referring to Operation Sindoor carried out to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done the biggest job of securing the country. During Congress rule, the country had to face terror attacks almost every day.
"When the Uri attack occurred, Modi took decisive action and a surgical strike was carried out. Following the Pulwama attack, an airstrike was done. And when an attack took place in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor was launched, targeting terrorists within Pakistan and eliminating them," he said.
Shah, who is also minister for cooperation, was here to attend an event on the occasion of International Cooperatives Year-2025.
"Modi's actions sent a strong message globally. Through them, Modi conveyed a powerful message to the world that India's citizens, armed forces, and borders should not be messed with. Anyone who dares to do so has to face consequences," he said.
Modi, he added, has turned the vision of a prosperous, secure and developed India into reality.
Under Modi's leadership, the country has become fourth largest economy in the world and 22 crore people were lifted above the poverty line, the Union minister told the gathering.
Praising Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, he said the BJP government in Rajasthan had done remarkable work in a short period of time.
"Rajasthan was suffering due to paper leaks. By forming an SIT, the Bhajanlal government has sent a strong message to the paper leak mafia," he said.
Under Sharma's leadership, Rajasthan signed MoUs worth Rs 35 lakh crore during an investment summit and work has already commenced on MoUs worth Rs 3 lakh crore, Shah said.
The BJP government in the state decreased VAT on petrol and diesel and several other initiatives were taken, he went on to say. He also praised the state government for effectively implementing schemes and programmes of the central government.
Shah lauded the contributions made by the cooperative sector in the country's development over the last century and said that the next 100 years are the years of cooperatives.
"With the vision of reaching every corner of the nation, Modi established a Ministry of Cooperation at the central level. Today, cooperatives play an active role in 98 per cent of rural areas," he said.
Highlighting the sector's contribution to the economy, he said the ministry launched 61 initiatives in the last four years to strengthen the sector.
"The creation of two lakh new PACS (primary agricultural credit societies) has already started with 40,000 PACS already set up. We have completed the computerization of PACS and all states have accepted the new model bylaws for PACS," he said.
He also spoke of Rajasthan's agricultural contributions.
The minister said the government has initiated research on camel breed preservation and medicinal qualities of camel milk.
"This will ensure the long-term survival of camels in the coming years," he said.
Chief Minister Sharma also highlighted the works and achievements of his government.
"We are working to ensure that the benefits of cooperatives reach our people. Under Modi's leadership, we have a plan that every beneficiary, whether it is the Centre or the State, should get its benefits," he said.
During his visit, Shah inaugurated 24 food grain storage warehouses and 64 millet outlets virtually and also visited an exhibition of cooperative products.
Among those present at the event were Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Deputy Chief Ministers Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari, and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

Image- AFP Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a plane crash in Russia, extending condolences to the families of the victims. In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi said India stands in solidarity with the people of Russia during this tragic time. Deeply saddened at the loss of lives in the tragic plane crash in Russia. Extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We stand in solidarity with Russia and its people. — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) July 24, 2025 STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD An Antonov An-24 passenger plane carrying 48 people crashed in Russia's far east on Thursday as it was preparing to land, killing everyone on board in an incident that spotlighted the continued use of old, Soviet-era aircraft. The burning fuselage of the plane, which was made in 1976, was spotted by a search helicopter after it disappeared from radar screens. It had been attempting to land for a second time after failing to touch down on its first approach, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. Operated by the privately owned Siberian regional airline Angara, it had been en route from the city of Blagoveshchensk near the Chinese border to Tynda, an important railway junction in the Amur region. It was carrying 42 passengers, including five children, and six crew. The regional governor and federal investigators confirmed that everyone on board had been killed. Investigators said they had opened a criminal case into the suspected violation of air traffic and air transport rules, resulting in the death of more than two people through negligence. The plane had recently passed a technical safety inspection, Russian news agencies reported, and had been involved in four apparently minor incidents since 2018. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The crash is likely to raise new questions about the viability of continuing to fly such old planes in far-flung corners of Russia at a time when Western sanctions have crimped Moscow's ability to access investment and spare parts. It may also prompt other countries that operate the aircraft to review their fleets. North Korea, Kazakhstan, Laos, Cuba, Ethiopia, Myanmar and Zimbabwe operate the An-24, according to the authoritative RussianPlanes web-portal. Video shot from a helicopter showed pale smoke rising from the crash site in a densely forested hilly area around 15 km (10 miles) from Tynda. There were no roads to the site and a rescue team had to use heavy machinery to cut a path there. President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and held a minute's silence at the start of a government meeting. With inputs from agencies

India inks Free Trade Agreement with UK: Duty-free access, cheaper British products, more

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to the United Kingdom, during which India formalised a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) set to boost annual bilateral trade by nearly USD 34 billion. The deal promises easier market access for both countries, with 99 per cent of Indian exports gaining tariff benefits and British products like whisky, cars, medical devices, and cosmetics becoming affordable in India. In a joint statement after signing the Free Trade Agreement, PM Modi said the deal was more than just an economic partnership. He said, 'It is also a blueprint for shared prosperity.' UK PM Keir Starmer said, 'A landmark deal with India means jobs, investment and growth here in the UK. It creates thousands of British jobs, unlocks new opportunities for businesses and puts money in the pockets of working people.' The FTA is expected to boost key sectors such as textiles, leather, footwear, sports goods and toys, marine products, gems and jewelery, engineering goods, auto parts and engines, and organic chemicals. The free trade deal benefits British whisky producers as tariffs are slashed in half, reduced immediately from 150 per cent to 75 per cent and then dropped even further to 40 per cent over the next ten years. Automobile tariff to fall from 100 per cent-plus to 10 per cent under quota, making British automobile – auto manufacturer Aston Martin and Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover – cheaper in India. Duty-free access under the FTA is expected to boost India's electronics exports – including smartphones, optical fiber cables, and inverters – while also giving a push to software services growth. Indian spices like turmeric, pepper, cardamom; processed goods like mango pulp, pickles, and pulses; and marine products such as shrimp and tuna will enjoy duty-free access in the UK market after the signing of the FTA. An official said, 'Feni from Goa, artisanal wines from Nashik, and toddy from Kerala will now enjoy Geographical Indication (GI) protection and shelf space in high-end UK retail and hospitality chains.' The Free Trade deal will exempt at least 75,000 Indians working in the UK from social security payments for three years. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who accompanied PM Modi to sign the landmark FTA with the UK, said India's talent in IT, services and education will gain from easier access to the UK's high-value markets with the two sides signing the deal. The deal allows temporary stay of Indian business visitors and contractual service providers, yoga instructors, chefs and musicians. Items such as dairy, apples, and edible oils excluded from tariff cuts.
