ALERT DAY: Watching the severe threat for Wednesday
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Rain and snowmelt will increase the potential for ice jam flooding, and ponding of water in low lying areas. A few strong to severe thunderstorms with gusty to damaging winds are possible as well Wednesday evening. The 18 Storm Team is watching this impressive storm system track into Twin Tiers, which is why we are calling for an Alert Day this midweek.
This huge complex stretches from Canada to Mexico dragging with it severe weather in the deep south and blizzard conditions in the heartland.
We remain in the crosshairs for soaking rains arriving on Wednesday afternoon when we will see strong to severe storms and about an inch of rain for many of us. The warm-up and rain will aid in a rapid snow melt and bring some river or creek levels to minor flood stages because of ice jams preventing the free-flowing of moving water.
Meanwhile, we will remain mainly dry in our overnight, but the rain will pop in just after lunch for most of us who. We are all likely to hear a clap of thunder and get under a downpour at some point on Wednesday. After that get ready for Old Man Winter to follow with a chance for light snow as that system ushers in colder weather for Thursday and even colder air for the weekend.

Muggy, stormy weather expected for Father's Day weekend
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — As we close out the week, we are dealing with more of the same across the Carolinas with locally heavy rain and thunderstorms along with miserable humidity. More of the same is on the way this weekend, with scattered showers and storms expected for both Saturday and Sunday with more heat and mugginess. This summer pattern looks to continue unabated through the end of next week, with no completely dry day until the end of next week. As for tonight and your Father's Day Weekend, scattered showers and storms are expected this evening with heavy rain and isolated flash flooding possible. Overnight lows will stay on the warm side thanks to showers and elevated humidity as temperatures will struggle to dip down below the 70-degree mark. Saturday and Father's Day will bring more of the same with afternoon showers and storms and tropical like conditions as highs push into the upper 80s and the humidity making it feel borderline intolerable outside. If you're looking to do anything outside with Dad this weekend, the best time will likely be the middle of the day when we should be dry. Heading into next week, more of the same is expected across the Carolinas with showers and storms possible in the afternoon, essentially every day of the week. Along with the possible wet weather is more heat and humidity, of course, with temperatures that could be pushing into the 90s as our weather starts to dry out. Hazy sunshine expected through the weekend
SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Friday, Utah! Friday afternoon will feature more sunshine and hot temperatures. A southwesterly breeze will help to keep some dust and haze in the air. Highs will warm into the mid-90s for the Wasatch Front to 101° for St. George. A stronger ridge of high pressure will settle overhead, leading to drier and hotter conditions just in time for Father's Day weekend. High temps will be in the mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front. Across southern Utah, high temps will warm between 100°-105°. The warm temperatures, low humidity levels, dry vegetation, and gusty southwest winds will lead to a critical fire danger developing across portions of central and southern Utah. Any outdoor burning will be highly discouraged. A weak trough may arrive early next week, knocking a few degrees off daytime highs, but overall, expect well-above average temperatures and mainly dry conditions to stick around through most of next week. Friday, June 13 forecast: Summertime Saturday, rain for some Father's Day
Friday the 13th, lucky or unlucky, it's coming to a close, and so is the showery pattern. Scattered showers in the area over the past two days have filled rain gauges, but not to the excessive levels of past storms. The storm system is on the way out with nicer weather in time for the weekend. Showers will end this evening with clearing skies paving the way for some fog by morning. Fog and low cloudiness will thin out quickly Saturday morning with a mix of sun and clouds through the afternoon. It looks like most areas will remain dry thanks to some drier air filtering in behind today's shower maker. Warm and humid afternoon conditions, along with light winds, will make for a nice early summer day. Saturday's quiet will continue through Father's Day for most areas east of Hwy. 65. Areas to the west may have to contend with a risk of showers and thunderstorms. Rain or not, expect warm and humid conditions throughout the day. If you're boating or floating this weekend, weather conditions look pretty good. Things to consider, though: debris in the lakes and rivers from recent flooding and faster currents on rivers with water levels still running a little high. If you're taking Dad golfing or fishing, or you're just hanging out on the porch, the weather shouldn't be too bad. As we move into next week, summer really starts to settle in. We start the week with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday looks warm and breezy with a risk for additional showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday as a front grazes the area. It will be warm and humid through the front end of the week, with the heat building during the back end. The first summer ridge of the season will take shape by the end of next week and continue to influence our weather into the following week. This will likely lead to our first 90° day of the summer.
