Jordan Henderson completes free-transfer switch to Brentford

New Bees boss Keith Andrews moved for Henderson after losing Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal.
'When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision,' Andrews told the Bees' website.
'We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot.
'With the void of experienced players leaving the building – Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee – it was important to replace that.
'What Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years. He's been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club.
'He also has experience at international level with England and, with that, comes a level of experience, professionalism and dedication to his profession – that's the exact way we want to be as a football club.'
Henderson, who has 84 England caps and was recently recalled by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel, was a free agent after leaving Ajax in the summer.
He spent 12 years with Liverpool before a controversial move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq in 2023.

Arsenal's stance on Eberechi Eze transfer revealed as date release clause expires is confirmed

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer, but it remains to be seen if the Gunners can strike a deal for the 27-year-old Arsenal are interested in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but want to offload a forward before making a formal approach. The Gunners have made six new signings so far this summer, with Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga all joining the club. ‌ Eze is another player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates and he does have a £68million release clause in his contract. However, multiple reports have stated that the clause expires on Friday. ‌ And BBC Sport are reporting that Arsenal have 'shown no inclination of triggering the forward's release fee', with the Gunners looking to sell before they make any more new signings. The report adds that Arsenal value Eze at less than £68m and 'want to negotiate a deal beneath the agreement'. ‌ Palace have so far been unwilling to negotiate a lower fee, but it is claimed that may change later in the window. When asked about Eze's future back in May, Palace boss Oliver Glasner said: "I don't want to comment on individual players. "We could talk about Marc Guehi, we could talk about Dean Henderson, we could talk about Adam Wharton, we could talk about Jean-Philippe Mateta, Daniel Munoz, Ismaila Sarr who played an incredible, outstanding season for us. We won't sell all of them." And Glasner has been left frustrated with Palace's lack of business so far this summer, having only spent £3m on a backup goalkeeper and a left-back. "Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far," Glasner admitted. "I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. As of now, I have 17 outfield players. "I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible." ‌ Palace's business has been complicated by the fact that they are still waiting to find out which European competition they will be playing in next season. Palace qualified for the Europa League after winning the FA Cup last season, but have been demoted to the Conference League by UEFA. UEFA ruled that they had breached their multi-club ownership rules, but Palace have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport and a decision is expected before August 11.

Is Eberechi Eze really the right fit for Arsenal?

Our expert analyses a potential move for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze to Arsenal. The midfielder is a 4/7 shot with Betfred to swap south London for north London this summer. Already a Betfred member? Check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. Arsenal overhaul attacking options In a bid to finally land the Premier League title under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have been busy in the transfer market this summer. They have improved their midfield options with the signings of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, brought in back-ups for both William Saliba and Bukayo Saka in Cristhian Mosquera and Noni Madueke and, of course, have acquired a proven goalscorer in Viktor Gyokeres. But fans and pundits alike still feel the Gunners are missing one final piece of the jigsaw and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze has been touted as the solution. Eze has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and is 4/7 to sign for Arsenal before the end of the summer with Betfred, while Chelsea are next in that market at 16/1. Kai Havertz, who spent a fair part of the season sidelined through injury, was Arsenal's top scorer in the Premier League with just nine goals last season, so improving their attacking options is crucial. But is Eze really the answer? Tireless Eze offers a bit of everything Most Arsenal fans would be keen for their club to sign a player of Eze's quality, but for those who are unsure, the stats do the talking. Eze scored eight goals and had eight assists last season, despite playing for a Palace side who finished 12th, scoring only 51 goals and ranking 17th in the division for average possession (42.4 per cent). The former QPR player also managed 4.69 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, significantly more than Leandro Trossard (3.29) or Gabriel Martinelli (2.91), players Eze could displace at Arsenal. And while Eze was, of course, playing for a team who had to defend more than Arsenal, he made an eye-catching 17 tackles in the league last term – 10 more than Martinelli. That shows he is a hard-working and dynamic player, while his decisive goal in the FA Cup final showed he can be a man for the big occasion. Contrary to false narratives, Arteta's team are one of the most dynamic teams in the world both in & out of possession. Fluidity is off the scale + several top pressing structures. Sign Eze and the project goes BOOM! — EBL (@EBL2017) August 1, 2025 Where might midfielder fit Arteta's system? The stats make for good reading and there is no doubt Arsenal would be signing one of the most talented players in the Premier League if they bought Eze. But there is one glaring question looming over his potential signing: where would he play? In an ideal world, Arsenal would look to deploy Eze on the left side of their 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 systems with Gyokeres through the centre and Bukayo Saka on the right of a potentially devastating attack. But Eze rarely played on the wing at Palace last season and all of his league goals and assists last term came when he was playing in an attacking midfield role, behind the striker, while he failed to score or create a goal when deployed on the left on three occasions. Would Eze therefore be required to adapt to a new position if he moved to Arsenal, potentially limiting his attacking threat? Or could his arrival put pressure on captain Martin Odegaard, who was below his best in the 2024-25 season and may be required to adapt his role to accommodate Eze? The 27-year-old Londoner is talented and determined enough to evolve if needed and there is every chance he could succeed at any club in the Premier League. But as a move to north London looks increasingly likely for Eze, it might not be the match made in heaven it appears to be, at least not from the start. Erling Haaland responds to Myles Lewis-Skelly six months after being 'mocked'

Erling Haaland has issued a response to Myles Lewis-Skelly six months after the Manchester City striker was 'mocked' by the Arsenal defender. Haaland, 25, and Lewis-Skelly, 18, have had beef since the heated 2-2 Premier League draw between Arsenal and City in September 2024. The match between the two title rivals saw Lewis-Skelly make his Arsenal debut with Haaland turning to him and shouting: 'Who the f*** are you?' Lewis-Skelly got revenge over Haaland when Arsenal smashed City 5-1 in February, copying the Norwegian's lotus celebration after scoring a goal. After the clash, Lewis-Skelly shared a 'keep it humble' message on his Instagram – in a collaboration with Adidas – in what was a reference to Haaland previously telling his manager Mikel Arteta to 'stay humble'. Haaland has now finally responded to the English teenager in a new interview, telling TIME: 'They won the game 5-1. So yeah, they got me. 'If he wanted to use that moment to mock me, that's fair enough for him. Whatever he wants to do, he can do.' Quizzed about his now infamous 'stay humble' dig at Arteta in September 2024, Haaland vowed to continue using the phrase. 'I think it's an important phrase, which a lot of people should use, including myself,' Haaland added. 'It's one of the most important things, as individuals, to do.' Since moving to City in the summer of 2022, Haaland has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and the Super Cup. Haaland, widely regarded as one of the best strikers on the planet, has scored an incredible tally of 124 goals across 146 games for City. Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, is considered as one of the best young players in English football. He made his Arsenal debut last year and has played 39 games for the club, having progressed through the Hale End academy. He has not yet landed a trophy in his senior career. Arsenal and City have developed somewhat of a rivalry after fighting each other for the Premier League trophy in recent seasons, although it was Liverpool who were crowned champions of England last term. More Trending Arteta's team finished as Premier League runners-up to City in both 2023 and 2024. In 2025, Arsenal finished second again and City were third. The next time Arsenal face City is on September 21 as the Gunners host Pep Guardiola's side at the Emirates. They are then set to meet again for the reverse fixture at the Etihad on April 18.
