Mysuru: Nearly two years after launching the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, the country's largest money transfer scheme in the city, Congress is gearing up for another massive convention in Mysuru.
The party is hosting Sadhana Samavesha and launching various developmental schemes on July 19, where development projects worth over Rs 2,900 crore will be launched.
Even though Congress functionaries made it clear that it is an official event and not a show of strength, it is widely perceived that Congress is using the occasion to strengthen its organisation ahead of upcoming TP, ZP, and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) elections.
As per the plan, the event will be held in the Maharaja's College Grounds in the heart of the city, where CM Siddaramaiah, DCM DK Shivakumar, and others will lay the foundation stone for various developmental work. A majority of the cabinet ministers of the Siddaramaiah govt will attend the event. Congress sources said AICC leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC Karnataka incharge Randeep Surjewala, will be invited for the event.

District minister HC Mahadevappa held a review meeting of the preparations for this event last week, where he directed the officials to ensure everything from food to toilet facilities for the public. He said beneficiaries of various govt schemes and the public from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar will attend this convention along with the people's representatives.
"It is not a show of strength of the party," said party district unit president BJ Vijayakumar.
"Around 1 lakh public will attend the event," he said. He denied any political objectives behind the convention.
Meanwhile, BJP functionaries asked the CM and his cabinet colleagues to visit Mysuru city before boasting about their achievements. "Roads are in their worst shape. Aashada Fridays are managed unscientifically. Officials are missing in the action," alleged city BJP spokesman MA Mohan.
"17 scams in 24 months is the achievement of this govt. CM Siddaramaiah is holding all his major events in Mysuru to send a message to the party high command," Mohan said.

'I will not speak in English': BJP's Nishikant Dubey on Tamil Nadu MPs request in LS amid glitch in translating system

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, on Tuesday, refused to speak in English, rejecting Tamil Nadu MPs request in Lok Sabha amid a glitch in translating system. He further claimed that the MPs 'only had a problem with Hindi.' The BJP MP made the comments in the Lok Sabha after after Tamil Nadu MPs requested Nishikant Dubey to speak in English following a a technical glitch in the translator (system) in the Lok Sabha. Responding to them, Dubey said "...It would have been better if you had asked me to speak in Tamil or Bengali. English is a foreign language, and your insistence on it reflects your mindset. Someone spoke in Bengali for half an hour, yet Tamil Nadu MPs didn't object. You only have a problem with Hindi. Congress and its allies don't like North Indians or Hindi. If you keep promoting English, we'll end up becoming England. 'Hum phir se gulaam ho jayenge' (We will become slaves again)..." During the Monsoon Session of the Parliament on Tuesday, several leaders launched scathing attacks on the government about India's Operation Sindoor in the aftermath of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in April that killed 26 people. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the launch of Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam attack was a "symbol of the government's intelligence failure". Uttar Pradesh's former chief minister also said that India's foreign policy has 'completely collapsed,' while labelling China as a 'monster' that will "gobble up our (India's) land and market". "Who will take responsibility for the intelligence lapse in the Pahalgam attack?' Akhilesh Yadav said about the tragedy. Rahul Gandhi also took a swipe at the government, daring PM Modi to call 'Trump a liar,' referring to the POTUS's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. While India has consistently denied these assertions, the US President continues to highlight his alleged role in de-escalating tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack. Following Rahul Gandhi's claims, PM Modi while addressing the Lok Sabha, refuted claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding his role in halting India's military action against Pakistan. He said said no world leader asked India to stop its military action against Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor' after four days of conflict in May in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Supply of ethanol-blended petrol jumps more than 4-fold in four years

The ethanol-blended petrol supplied at the retail outlets of the public sector oil companies such as Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum has shot up from 173 crore litres in Ethanol Supply Year (November-October) 2019-20 to more than 700 crore litres in Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2023-24, while there has also been a corresponding increase in blending percentage from 5 per cent in ESY 2019-20 to approximately 14.6 per cent in ESY 2023-24, the Parliament was informed on Monday. Further, for the ongoing Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25, as of June 30, 2025, a total of 661.06 crore litres of ethanol has been blended with petrol, achieving a blending percentage of 18.93 per cent, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question. During the month of June 2025, ethanol blending of 19.92 per cent has been achieved. All retail outlets of Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies across the country, having petrol selling facilities, dispense E20 petrol, the minister added. Highlighting India's achievements in the biofuels sector, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh highlighted that nearly 20 per cent ethanol blending has been achieved in 2025, a significant rise from 1.53 per cent in 2014. This accomplishment has resulted in Rs 1.4 lakh crore in foreign exchange savings, substitution of 238 lakh metric tonnes of crude oil, a reduction of 717 lakh metric tonnes in CO2 emissions, and direct payments of Rs 1.21 lakh crore to farmers. Farmers have gained as the sugar mills that are also producing ethanol can now afford to pay higher prices for sugarcane and clear pending dues in time. Encouraged by the performance, the government decided to advance the target of 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol from 2030 to ESY 2025-26. In order to achieve the 20 per cent ethanol blending target by ESY 2025-26, the government has taken several measures which include a detailed Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India, expansion of feedstock for the production of ethanol, remunerative price for procurement of ethanol under the EBP Programme, lowering of the GST rate to 5 per cent on ethanol for EBP Programme, and an amendment in the Industries (Development & Regulation) Act for free movement of ethanol across states for blending. An interest subvention scheme for enhancement and augmentation of ethanol production capacity in the country; regular floating of Expression of Interest (EoI) by Public Sector oil marketing companies for procurement of ethanol has also been undertaken.

'India destroyed 1,000 Pakistani missiles mid-air, Congress waited for slip up': PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took multiple swipes at the Opposition, accusing them of being obsessed with finding even a single instance of his failure during Operation Sindoor. Addressing the Lok Sabha, the prime minister said while the whole country was proud when India destroyed all Pakistani missiles in the sky, Congress was waiting to find one instance to attack him. 'Pakistan launched 1,000 missiles and drones towards India, but they were destroyed mid-air by our armed forces. If they had fallen on any part, it would have led to huge destruction, but india destroyed them in the sky. Whole India was proud of it, but Congress was waiting,' PM Modi said. 'Modi kahin toh fasega [Modi will slip up somewhere]' the prime minister said. Attacking Congress more, the prime minister said the party 'operates through the remote control' of Pakistan. 'The country is surprised that Congress has given a clean chit to Pakistan. They are saying that the terrorists of Pahalgam were from Pakistan. Give us proof of this. Pakistan is also demanding the same thing that Congress is making,' he said. 'It has been an old habit with Congress to have a negative approach to the armed forces; Congress yet to embrace Kargil win,' PM Modi said. Also Read | 'Say Donald Trump is a liar': Rahul Gandhi dares PM Narendra Modi during Operation Sindoor debate PM Narendra Modi said, "On one hand, India is moving ahead at a fast pace towards self-reliance, but Congress is becoming dependent on Pakistan for issues. Unfortunately, Congress is importing issues from Pakistan..." "Just 3-4 days after the 22nd April terrorist attack, they [Congress] started jumping up and down. They started saying, "kahan gayi 56 inch ki chhati?" "Kahan kho gaya Modi?" "Modi has failed"...They were shaping their politics even in the murder of innocent people in Pahalgam," he said. PM Modi said the Congress needs excuses to keep attacking the government. "Some people are crying here too. They tried to play a game during surgical strike, it didn't work. During airstrike, they tried playing another game. That didn't work either. When #OperationSindoor took place, they adopted a new tactic - "Why did you stop?"...Waah re bayan bahaduron! You need one or the other excuse to oppose."
