Abdeslam Ouaddou under early pressure after Orlando Pirates suffer Marumo Gallants sucker punch

Orlando Pirates' sluggish start to the season deepened as they fell 2–1 to Marumo Gallants at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Sea Robbers remain winless after two matches. They looked strong early, with Patrick Maswanganyi opening the scoring. But Gallants hit back with goals in each half — first through Daniel Msendami and then a late strike by Jaisen Clifford — delivering another blow to Pirates' championship aspirations this early in the campaign.
The Buccaneers started like a house on fire, seemingly intent on fixing the mistakes from their clash against Sekhukhune United. Dr Molemela Stadium — packed and pulsing with song — intensified the pressure on coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's broad shoulders.
He faced extra scrutiny from his former side on the opposing bench, who were clearly intent on making life difficult for him.
Despite making three changes from the Babina Noko loss, the Moroccan tactician stood by his selections, even though his line-up still lacked some of Jose Riveiro's championship chasing fan favourites from last season.

Orlando Pirates could be bottom of the Betway Premiership after round 2

Orlando Pirates could be bottom of the Betway Premiership after the second round of fixtures are completed on Wednesday night. After back-to-back league defeats, the Buccaneers find themselves in an unfamiliar territory, needing a win desperately to get their season on track. After their opening 2-0 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8, Pirates appeared to be on their way to fight for the league title but things changed quickly when they went down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United in their first league match. Under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers have made 12 new signings and the majority of the new players have played in the three matches but none of them has stood out so far. So far, the Sea Robbers sit on 14th place after two matches. If Stellenbosch FC and TS Galaxy can earn points on Wednesday, the Pirates will officially be last on the log. Pirates legend Benedict Tso Vilakazi feels the club is going in the wrong direction following their 2-1 defeat to Marumo Gallants. 'Where is the core of the team? You must have a core of the team,' Tso said on iDiski TV . 'I want us to be realistic now. Look at the whole team that played against Marumo Gallants; how many per cent of the players who carried the team last season are still playing? Vilakazi said the blame has to go to Ouaddou for changing Jose Riveiro's winning team. 'Unfortunately the blame has to be on the coach, he is the one who is giving out instructions. So, when we see the team like this, we will blame the coach. He played against Pirates (last season), he saw what Pirates achieved last season, so it doesn't make sense why he made changes. 'I don't think it makes sense for him to change this team and play all the new players,' he said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Too soon for Orlando Pirates fans to panic?

League points eluded Orlando Pirates once again as they fell to 2-1 defeat in their Betway Premiership clash against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday night. It was the second loss in as many league fixtures for the Soweto giants, who visited Bahlabane Ba Ntwa at Dr Molemela Stadium for their first away fixture in the 2025/26 season. Orlando Pirates displayed intent from the opening minutes, forcing Maruma Gallants goalkeeper Washington Arubi into an early save. The shot came from the boot of striker Boitumelo Radiopane, whose left-footed effort was kept out by the Zimbabwean international. Debutant Lebone Seema followed that up with a headed effort from the resultant corner, but was unable to direct the ball on target. Arubi was called upon once more in the seventh minute when he effected a crucial touch to keep out a threatening cross from Tshepho Mashiloane on the right flank. The Buccaneers' continued to dictate matters and were rewarded in the 16th minute when Deon Hotto got on the end of an excellent long ball from stand-in skipper Mbekezeli Mbokazi before linking up with Patrick Maswanganyi, who expertly guided the ball into the net. The goal sprung the hosts into action as they threatened the Bucs penalty area in their pursuit for the equaliser. Arubi remained the busier of the two 'keepers, however, and continued to stand between the visitors and a more substantial lead. He denied Tshepang Moremi and Oswin Appollis in quick succession with Radiopane also failing to breach his defences with an attempt from point-blank range. The scores were level on the stroke of half-time, following sustained pressure placed on the Bucs defence by the hosts. Winger Daniel Msendami found the decisive touch, firing past a diving Sipho Chaine to make it 1-1. Looking to restore their lead as they emerged from the tunnel, Orlando Pirates continued to enjoy most of the possession. Replacement striker Evidence Makgopa went agonisingly close shortly after being substituted in as he collected a cross from Hotto before firing just wide from close range. Sinoxolo Kwayiba was on target with his effort late in the game, but could not find a way past Arubi. The breakthrough came at the other end of the pitch as the home side delivered a dagger deep in injury time. Substitute forward Jaisen Clifford provided the late winner as he fired in from close range. There wasn't enough time on the clock for Orlando Pirates to launch a comeback, with the final whistle eventually sounding. It confirmed another loss for the Buccaneers, who are still yet to get off the mark in the league this season. The Buccaneers are in 14th place in the standings – and could drop to 16th and last after Wednesday evening's fixtures. Crucially, they are already four points behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, and could drop six points adrift of bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs if Amakhosi defeat Polokwane City at home tonight. Confirmed: R1.7 million coming into Kaizer Chiefs' bank

Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC, the second Betway Premiership representative, will fly the South African flag in the CAF Confederation Cup. Amakhosi sealed a spot after winning last season's Nedbank Cup final, thanks to Yusuf Maart's superb late winner at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. According to CAF, each participating team in the preliminary rounds will now pocket R1.7 million to help cover travel, accommodation, and match preparation. That's double the previous amount. Image: kcofficial/Instagram The preliminary rounds start with the first legs from 19–21 September and the second legs a week later. The group stages begin in November, with knockout football kicking off in March 2026. The Soweto giants have been drawn against Kabuscorp Sport Clube do Palanca, known simply as Kabuscorp, from Angola. Kaizer Chiefs star is back after red card Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will earn the same amount for their CAF Champions League preliminary round games.
