"Great Leader": JD Vance Praises PM Modi During His India Visit

United States Vice President JD Vance on Monday said it was an "honour" to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called the PM a "great leader" on the first day of his India visit.
Vance also expressed gratitude for hosting his family at the PM's residence in New Delhi and said that PM Modi was "incredibly kind to my family."
Responding to PM Modi's post on X, the US Vice President wrote, "It was an honor to see Prime Minister Modi this evening. He's a great leader, and he was incredibly kind to my family."

Vance further expressed willingness to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
"I look forward to working under President Trump's leadership to strengthen our friendship and cooperation with the people of India!" Vance said.
PM Modi, after meeting Vance, said that both nations are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors.
"Pleased to welcome US Vice President JD Vance and his family to New Delhi. We reviewed the fast-paced progress following my visit to the US and meeting with President Trump. We are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation, including in trade, technology, defence, energy and people-to-people exchanges," PM Modi wrote on X.
He also emphasised that India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership will be a "defining" partnership of the 21st Century for India and the world.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the strength of the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and jointly launched the India-U.S. COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century, which as described by a statement from US Vice President office is an "initiative anchored in mutual trust, shared interests, goodwill, and robust engagement of their citizens".
The two leaders also welcomed the progress in the negotiations for a US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). They formally announced the finalisation of the Terms of Reference for the negotiations.
"Vice President Vance and Prime Minister Modi welcomed significant progress in the negotiations for a US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and formally announced the finalization of the Terms of Reference for the negotiations, laying down a roadmap for further discussions about our shared economic priorities," said the statement from Vance's office.
It said BTA presents an opportunity to negotiate a new and modern trade agreement focused on promoting job creation and citizen well-being in both countries. The goal is to enhance bilateral trade and supply-chain integration in a balanced and mutually beneficial manner.
"Guided by their respective visions of 'Amrit Kaal for India' and 'Golden Age for America,' BTA is expected to create new opportunities of growth for workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs in both countries," the statement said.
The US Vice President, who is on a four-day official visit to India starting Monday, has arrived in Jaipur with his family for the second leg of his visit. Vance will visit Agra on April 23. The visit concludes with their departure from India on April 24 at 6:40 am.
The visit comes closely on the heels of a positive and successful meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in Washington earlier this year.

Initiatives in last 11 years helped boost farmers' incomes: PM Modi
Several initiatives of the BJP-led NDA government during the last 11 years have boosted the prosperity of farmers and ensured the transformation of agriculture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, underlined the far-reaching impact of his government's 'pro-farmer' programmes. The Centre also showcased flagship initiatives — such as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, under which ₹3.68 lakh crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of 110 million farmers, and the Kisan Fasal Bima Yojana, under which ₹1.75 lakh crore has been disbursed to 230 million farmers — as important steps taken for the welfare of farmers. 'It's our privilege to serve our hardworking farmers. For the past 11 years, our various initiatives have boosted prosperity for farmers and also ensured an overall transformation of the agriculture sector,' Modi said in a post on X. 'We have focussed on issues like soil health and irrigation, which have been greatly beneficial. Our efforts towards farmer welfare will continue with greater vigour in the times to come.' The PM further said farmers were earlier forced to take loans for meeting small needs, but their lives have been made easier by his government. 'Reflecting on the last 11 years, the government's initiatives have not only enhanced prosperity among farmers but have also contributed to an overall transformation of the agriculture sector. Due to the continuous increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the country's food producers are receiving fair prices for their crops and experiencing a rise in their income,' Modi was quoted as saying in a PIB release. The BJP-led NDA government has recently completed its 11 years in power, while the party will mark the first anniversary of Modi-led government's third term on June 9.

Germany strongly supports India in its fight against terrorism: FM Wadephul
Germany reaffirmed its strong support and solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism, Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told an Indian parliamentary delegation that outlined New Delhi's resolve to not give in to nuclear blackmail by Pakistan. As the delegation visited the European country, it conveyed to German political and diplomatic leadership India's unwavering united stand for zero-tolerance for terrorism, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The delegation, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, concluded its visit to Germany on Saturday, with the Indian Embassy stating that New Delhi's firm and principled position against terrorism found resonance across the top political leadership, decision-makers and think-tanks reinforcing depth of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. Earlier on Friday evening, the delegation called on Minister Wadephul, who, building on his recent meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Germany's strong support and solidarity with India, in the fight against terrorism, said a post on X by the Indian Embassy here. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen & deepen multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to a rule-based international order, based on shared democratic values, it added. We underscored the significant threat terrorism poses to democracy, humanity, and human rights, and expressed grave concern over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Prasad said on X after the meeting. Emphasizing the need for collective action, we stressed that democratic nations must unite to counter this menace. During an interaction with leaders and key representatives of the Indian community in Germany, the multi-party parliamentary delegation appreciated the support and solidarity shown by the Indian diaspora in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
