Katie Price's major update on Harvey's future after council axes college funding

Katie Price's major update on Harvey's future after council axes college funding

Daily Mirror13 hours ago
Katie Price, previously also known as Jordan, has this week opened up about her eldest son Harvey - whom she shares with former Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke
Harvey Price is going from college into "independent living," his mum Katie has revealed.
Katie, 47, last year said she was forced to withdraw her eldest son from the £350,000-a-year college because the local authority cut reportedly his funding, deeming he had "no healthcare issues". This is despite Harvey's ADHD, autism, genetic condition Prader-Willi Syndrome, and septo-optic dysplasia, which causes blindness. Katie, who came third in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2004, appealed against the decision.

Now, Harvey is going "into the real world," Jordan has confirmed. Speaking on the Katie Price Show podcast, the former model said: "Harvey is doing the countdown for his new place. He's got his leavers ceremony where they give out certificates and then it's the 'real world' Mr Harvey Price."

The mum of five, who shares Harvey with former Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke, had previously told how her son "got bored" at the residential college and often wanted to come home.
But Harvey is now set for a change of scene, with temporary accommodation in Southampton ready for September and then something nearer his mum from October.
"I've found him a place in Southampton which is temporary. It's got five other adults in it. Then he moves to his place in October, which is Littlehampton, which will be nearer to be. He's going from college to independent living," the mother of five continued.
Harvey's Prader-Willi Syndrome is a complex condition which causes obesity and learning difficulties. He is also autistic and partially blind. Prader-Willi Syndrome is very rare, with the NHS estimating that it affects "no more than one in every 15,000 children born in England".
Twice-bankrupt Katie, who lives in Horsham, West Sussex, previously said: "Harvey is supposed to be moving in four-and-a-half weeks, they've (the college) changed management and said they won't be able to cater for Harv, because he's too difficult. So now I've got to find another placement for him... so yeah, more drama to deal with."
Later in the show, she said: "We worked months and months for that and he was told four-and-a-half weeks before that he couldn't go there, and Harvey has been doing the countdown.
"Well it's stressful because you want the right thing for your child and it is a lot of time and effort to go back and do more meetings, more forms, it is very time-consuming because you want the best for your child." Finding the right care for Harvey has been a constant issue for Katie, a TV personality, since her eldest reached adulthood.

Kae Tempest: Self Titled review – the rhythms in his lyrics are still so distinct

On a track called Bless the Bold Future, Kae Tempest wrestles with the urge to bring children into a world beset by catastrophe; the landscape of the 39-year-old's fifth album Self Titled is indeed characterised by pain, anxiety and suffering. On Hyperdistillation, a man dies sleeping rough outside uninhabited penthouses as NHS backlogs threaten lives, and the ravey Diagnoses presents mental health issues as 'the right response to a world gone wrong,' while Statue in the Square's doomy grime reckons with a climate of transphobia (Tempest came out as non-binary in 2020 and earlier this year revealed his gender transition). And yet, there is something irrepressibly joyous about this album, which is essentially a collection of love letters: to the trans community, to the Londoner's home town, to his partner. Tempest's ability to imbue societal decay and personal torment with strange beauty, via lyricism honed on the performance poetry scene, is unparalleled, and his roots in the art form are still very much evident in his earnest, rhythmic delivery. Sometimes, the actual music struggles to keep up and fit in. While 2022's The Line Is a Curve let the words shine over a backdrop of classy, unobtrusive indie electronica, here the instrumentals are far more attention-grabbing: magisterial strings, gospelly R&B and, on Neil Tennant collaboration Sunshine on Catford, full-beam 1980s synth-pop. It can feel like a random grab bag of genres, and the potent sonics are sometimes overbearing. Then again, the effusiveness does help to underline the hope and hard-won happiness that, against all odds, underpins this rich, compelling and timely record.
