Val Kilmer's official cause of death revealed
Val Kilmer died of pneumonia, Fox News Digital has learned.
The Los Angeles County Department of Health released the actor's death certificate Thursday. Secondary causes included acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, chronic respiratory failure and squamous cell carcinoma of the base of the tongue.
Contributing factors included malnutrition and a tracheocutaneous fistula.
Kilmer's daughter confirmed the "Top Gun" star died April 1 after battling pneumonia. He was 65.
"Thank you for honoring our extraordinary father's memory," his family shared in a statement provided to Fox News Digital at the time. "We are so proud of him and honored to see his legacy celebrated."
Kilmer had previous health issues and battled throat cancer in 2015.
Kilmer most recently appeared in "Top Gun: Maverick" in 2022 to reprise his infamous role as Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.
Although he could portray his character, he still had difficulty due to damage from a tracheostomy. Kilmer required the use of a breathing tube.
After his death, Kilmer was honored by "Top Gun" co-star Tom Cruise during a promotional event for "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning."
"I'd like to honor a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer, for a moment," Cruise said at CinemaCon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I can't tell you how much I admired his work.
"If we just all take a moment to remember the wonderful time we had with him — let's just take a moment. I wish you well on your next journey."
Kilmer was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended Juilliard School in New York City. He made his film debut in the 1984 comedy "Top Secret!"
His breakthrough role, though, was playing Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's 1991 rock docudrama, "The Doors."
He then portrayed Doc Holliday in "Tombstone," and Elvis Presley's spirit in "True Romance," before taking on the role of the caped crusader in "Batman Forever."
Kilmer was also known for roles in "Heat," "The Saint," "The Salton Sea," "Alexander," "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Conspiracy."

We Know When Wicked For Good's Trailer Will Be Debuting, But There's A Bit Of A Catch

Chu's Wicked: For Good is a 'hotly anticipated' entry on the 2025 movie schedule. Anyone having doubts about my prediction could easily point to the fact that despite Universal's 2025 CinemaCon panel showing off some footage of the picture, fans haven't had the chance to gaze upon a trailer for the conclusion of this Oz-ified musical story yet. Well, I've got some good news and some news you might not be too pleased with, as you'll be able to see Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in full regalia real soon. However, it sounds like there's only one way you'll be able to get back to Oz for For Good's first trailer, and you'll have to click more than your heels. First, here's the good news: per a press release from Universal Pictures, the release of Wicked: For Good's first trailer is set to take place on June 4th! In fact, the event is being billed as something truly 'global,' as it's going to take place 'simultaneously in all North American time zones.' And that's where the catch comes in, as it sounds like you'll only be able to see this sizzle reel in theaters. But at least it's attached to special bring-back screenings of Wicked, which you can currently purchase tickets for. So it's not like you're showing up for a preview and then dipping to go back to lawn work. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of people who aren't afraid to return to a theater near them to see For Good's first trailer and laugh, cry, and potentially sing along with this meteoric box office hit of 2024. However, one has to wonder how many of those fans are ready to follow through with that desire, especially on a random Wednesday. View Deal While I'm someone who always advocates for the theatrical experience, especially when revisiting old favorites, I'd be foolish not to mention that a Peacock subscription could very easily scratch this itch for some, and right at this very moment. However, it would seem that Universal has some surprises in store for those who do choose to fly into the western sky once more to see Wicked and its sequel's trailer in theaters. So if you do go to this Wicked screening on June 4th, there's apparently going to be exclusive 'giveaways' for attendees. While that's a rather vague promise, what's for certain is that you'll be able to land yourself a commemorative poster for Wicked: For Good. And it I had to guess, it'll be a print of the image you see below: Don't take this the wrong way, but I can practically hear fans weeping over the mere invocation of that title, and the image of Elphaba and Glinda separated by a wide chasm that leads down the Yellow Brick Road. I mean, this is everything you would want out of a teaser poster - and it looks pretty spectacular. Though I'm not a die-hard obsessive over Wicked, I did really enjoy the first half of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's journey. And while this isn't a $16K charity performance with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, I'm inclined to check this out for myself. Provided, of course, that this announcement hasn't led to another case similar to how Sinners' second IMAX 70mm run instantly sold out. So if you're rejoicifying that Wicked will be back in theaters AND you'll get to see the first trailer for its sequel during this special screening, go grab your tickets now! And don't forget that Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters on November 21st; which may lead to some unsurprising double feature events. At least, one could only hope.

The Weeknd Teases Possible About-Face on Retiring Stage Persona: ‘It Could Also Just Be a Rebirth'
For the past few months, The Weeknd has been teasing that his sixth album and upcoming movie of the same name, Hurry Up Tomorrow, could mark the end of the unpredictable stage character that has taken over singer Abel Tesfaye's life for more than 15 years. After suggesting to The New York Times recently that the film à clef he wrote, stars in and produced — which eerily matches some of his own career high, and low, points — likely marks his last release as The Weeknd, he told EW that the door is still cracked. Speaking to the magazine at the recent CinemaCon festival alongside director Trey Edward Shults and co-star Jenna Ortega, Tesfaye said the movie (which opens on Friday) feels like the final nail in the coffin of the complex Weeknd character. While he has been adamant that he plans to keep making music, Tesfaye told EW, 'It feels like it [the end of the Weeknd]. I mean, I've kind of toyed with the idea in the past with albums,' he added, noting that this isn't he first time he's considered doing away with his sometimes swaggering, sometimes beat-to-a-pulp alter ego. 'But it could also just be a rebirth. Who knows?' he said. In January, Tesfaye, 35, said that he planned to retire his alter ego following the conclusion of the album trilogy that began with 2020's After Hours and includes 2022's Dawn FM and wrapped up with January's Hurry Up Tomorrow. 'It's a headspace I've gotta get into that I just don't have any more desire for,' he said of his stage name at the time. 'You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.' The Weeknd entered the public consciousness in 2011 when he put out the House of Balloons mixtape and worked to keep his face and identity secret at first, finally revealing himself to the wider world at Coachella in 2012. Flash forward billions of streams and four Grammys later and he's one of the biggest acts on the planet. The movie was inspired by what should have been a triumphant moment that went sideways. Tesfaye has described becoming undone when he suddenly lost his voice completely during a stadium show in L.A. in 2022. In the film, he plays a fictionalized, insomnia-wrecked version of himself, also named Abel, who is taken on a wild ride by alluring stranger Anima (Ortega). 'I tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it's very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it,' Shults, who co-wrote the psychological thriller's screenplay with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim told EW in February. The director said that it was an 'absolute possibility' that the project would be the Weeknd's final chapter, adding 'And for people that aren't his fans and don't know anything about him or even care about the final capping of the Weeknd, I think you still have a great movie to go through.'
