The Florida Gators are riding high after Billy Napier's first winning season in Gainesville.

The On3 Industry Rankings list Sone as a four-star prospect and the No. 14 defensive lineman in the 2026 class.

Florida's 2026 recruiting class has one commit in it thus far, featuring four-star quarterback Will Griffin. The Gators recently lost commitments from four-star linebacker Izayia Williams and three-star safety Devin Jackson. Williams flipped to the Ole Miss Rebels, while Jackson remains uncommitted.
College football insiders like Joel Klatt are confident in Florida's chances of having a successful season in 2025. Klatt placed Florida at No. 13 in his post-spring top 25 rankings.
Sone is not the only recruit from the 2026 class that Florida is trying to attract to Gainesville. The Gators are also in hot pursuit of five-star receiver Cederian Morgan.
Florida's 2025 season opens with Long Island on Aug. 30.

DJ Lagway Lands Lamborghini NIL Deal in Power Move

DJ Lagway Lands Lamborghini NIL Deal in Power Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. What's faster than a DJ Lagway spiral? Maybe the Lamborghini he just partnered with. Former Ivy League Star Turns Heads With Groundbreaking $6 Million NIL Deal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Florida landed one of the top spring transfers in college basketball with Princeton guard Xaivian Lee. The former Ivy League star is already cashing in down in Gainesville. Advertisement Industry sources told On3 that Lee's combined NIL contract with Florida and a new sneaker partnership with Serious Player Only totals more than $6 million. The multi-year deal with SPO is the more lucrative of the two, which includes the opportunity for Lee to launch a signature shoe when he reaches the NBA. The agreement makes Lee the first NCAA athlete to sign a shoe deal with an international brand. It includes immediate signature colorway releases and creative input on design. It's a strategy to grow his influence across Asia and North America. 'Serious Player Only has a really good vision on where they want to be,' Lee said in a statement. What Analysts Get Wrong About Baker Mayfield's Buccaneers Deal

What Analysts Get Wrong About Baker Mayfield's Buccaneers Deal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is a common misconception when it comes Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. When Mayfield signed a three-year, $100 million extension during the 2024 offseason, analysts compared the deal to similar agreements made by Geno Smith in Seattle (three-years, $75 million). Advertisement Mayfield was coming off a season in which he helped the Buccaneers reach the divisional round of the playoffs. He absolutely earned that money. Now, though, Mayfield has outplayed his current contract. That's the argument made by writer Tom Blair this week. Blair made it clear that Mayfield has outplayed his $33.3 million average. Last season, the former first overall pick set career highs in most statistical categories including passing yards (4,500), touchdowns (41), and passer rating (106.8). There's something that most analysts like Blair get wrong about Mayfield's contract, though. While Mayfield's per-year average is low, his cap hit is just over $23 million for this season. That number is actually $2 million more than Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, and $5 million less than Patrick Mahomes. Advertisement Next offseason, Mayfield's cap hit is set to increase to a whopping $49 million. That cap number will count for 18% of the team's money per Spotrac, and will be $18 million more than Hurts next season. A big reason why the Buccaneers have been able to retain some of their top talent is because of Mayfield's current contract. Compared to other top quarterbacks in the conference, the Oklahoma product costs a fair amount. And at the end of the day, the Buccaneers know they need to retain as much of their talent as possible if they want to make a Super Bowl push. Mayfield may seem like an underpaid asset for Tampa Bay, but the reality is that he is exactly where he needs to be to keep the Bucs in contention.
