USA Today5 days ago
It's officially opening day for the Michigan State football program, as the Spartans took the field for the opening of their summer training camp. Of course, MSU football superfan and head coach of the Spartans' basketball team, Tom Izzo, was there on day one.
Michigan State beat reporter Matt Wenzel snapped a picture shortly after practice opened up of Tom Izzo talking to MSU football head coach Jonathan Smith. Izzo has been a support of Smith's all the way back to the hiring process and has supported him throughout his early tenure.
You can see the picture below:
The Spartans will have a month to prepare for what many hope to be a bounce-back season. MSU will open its season with an August 29 showdown with Western Michigan at home in Spartan Stadium.

Former Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery is making noise in AA with Birmingham Barons

Former Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery experienced a shaky start in Double-A ball after being promoted from the Winston-Salem Dash to the Birmingham Barons, but he's beginning to find his stride. Over the last two games, Montgomery has flashed the tools that earned him the call-up, quieting doubts and reigniting excitement around his development. August is still in its early days, yet Montgomery has posted an impressive .500 on-base percentage (OBP) and a 1.250 slugging percentage (SLG), signaling a red-hot beginning in Double-A. While the organization expects him to remain at this level for the rest of the season, there's growing optimism that he could make his major league debut as early as next year. The start wasn't easy. After going 2-for-13 with nine strikeouts in his first three games, Montgomery looked overmatched. But in his last two outings, he's turned a corner, going 3-for-8 with his first home run at this level. Though strikeouts remain a concern and could slow his path to the majors, his high ceiling and raw talent still mark him as one of the club's top prospects. Below are a few early clips from his stint with the Barons. Colorado football's 2026 offer letters are out of this world

Deion Sanders is quite possibly college football's leader when it comes to swag, and he has brought every ounce of his bravado to the Colorado Buffaloes football team. He has brought in refreshed uniforms, new gear and a superior culture that was severely lacking before his arrival. That swag is, of course, a significant presence in recruiting, and it put the program's 2026 offer letters over the top. The official offers were sent out to Colorado's class of 2026 verbal commits, and as of Friday evening, there are ten. Colorado's top-rated commit, defensive back Preston Ashley, showed off the letter in a social media post. The offer letter includes trading cards of each coach on Colorado's staff, with each emphasizing the NFL experience that is so abundant. Each card features a picture of the coach with their former NFL team, along with a couple of seemingly exclusive cards of Deion Sanders himself. It truly is a unique and creative way to showcase the coaching talent currently in Boulder to recruits. Each letter also comes with a personalized trading card that resembles a one-of-one collectible card. Colorado routinely goes above and beyond in their recruiting efforts, and these 2026 official offers are simply another example. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
