Netflix's Wednesday is in 'living hell' as she returns to Nevermore in season 2

Daily Record6 days ago
Wednesday season two is just around the corner with Jenna Ortega teasing a "living hell" awaiting Wednesday Addams.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Wednesday.

Jenna Ortega has revealed that the iconic Wednesday Addams will be facing a "living hell" in the upcoming return of the hit drama to Netflix.

It's been three years since Wednesday first captivated audiences worldwide with its fresh take on the Addams Family universe.

In the first season, we saw Wednesday Addams (portrayed by Jenna Ortega) navigate the peculiarities of Nevermore Academy, a haven for supernatural misfits ranging from werewolves and vampires to sirens and gorgons.
Initially an outsider at Nevermore, Wednesday eventually became the school's saviour, thwarting the malevolent plans of both Joseph Crackstone (William Houston) and Laurel Gates (Marilyn Thornhill) by the semester's end.
The second season promises new escapades for Wednesday, yet the shadows of her past continue to loom over the gloomy adolescent.

Alfred Gough, the show's creator, divulged to Netflix about the forthcoming season: "Wednesday deals with the fact that back at Nevermore, she's suddenly incredibly popular, which drives her insane."
When discussing Wednesday's return to Nevermore, Ortega described: "The atmosphere at Nevermore in the beginning of the school year is a living hell."

She further explained the grim situation: "It's this terrible situation for Wednesday and she's very upset."
Ortega also shed light on how Wednesday grapples with her unexpected popularity, adding: "Wednesday rejects mainstream ideas and concepts and attention and everybody on the show doesn't.
"Then this weird, insane reception happened with the show, and she's still fighting that and it's an uncomfortable place to be in.

"But also, it's very easy to group people into these big bandwagons, but everyone internally always feels a bit odd, or they feel a bit left out, or they feel like they're not really able to connect.
"It seems so contradictory to what Wednesday is, but at the same time, that's kind of the point, if that makes sense.

"She's such an admirable, honest, truthful character who is a loner."
The upcoming series teases that Wednesday will be wrestling with her burgeoning powers, particularly after experiencing a harrowing vision involving Enid Sinclair's (Emma Myers) demise.
In the meantime, the enigmatic new principal Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) is set to make his entrance at Nevermore, cloaked in mystery.

The WWE's biggest summer party is upon us, as SummerSlam debuts as a two-night wrestling extravaganza this weekend! With an incredible array of matches confirmed so far, it has led some wrestling fans to wonder if this could eclipse WWE's Super Bowl, WrestleMania, which took place earlier this year. And with night two of the PLE culminating in championship matches, we're currently inclined to agree. However, with huge surprises guaranteed and John Cena performing at this last SummerSlam before he retires from the business, there are high expectations for the event, and could we see an infamous double turn take place during Night Two's main event? The event this year also marks a significant moment for Netflix, as the two enterprises signed a deal late last year and this year's show marks the first time the 'Big Four' event will be screened on the streaming giant. Here's a brief history on the event, why it is considered part of the WWE's pantheon of 'Big Four' events, the all-important night splits of matches, and how you can watch all the action, from kick-off to post-show press conferences, at home in the UK this weekend Why is SummerSlam part of WWE's 'Big Four' annual events? John Cena marks his final SummerSlam appearance this weekend, as he defends the WWE Undisputed Championship in a street fight against former champion Cody Rhodes. | WWE/Netflix SummerSlam is without question one of WWE's "Big Four" annual events, a distinction it shares with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad These four Premium Live Events have historically been the pillars of WWE's annual calendar, consistently featuring the biggest storylines, championship matches, and celebrity appearances. SummerSlam, in particular, has long been positioned as WWE's second-biggest event of the year, directly behind WrestleMania. This is due to its strategic placement in the summer, offering a crucial destination for major storyline payoffs and championship changes following the post-WrestleMania period. Having run annually since 1988, it boasts a rich history of iconic matches and moments that have shaped WWE lore, consistently generating significant revenue through ticket sales, merchandise, sponsorships, and broadcast deals, positioning it as a must-see spectacle. Why is SummerSlam taking place across two nights this year? This decision to expand SummerSlam to a two-night format follows the highly successful precedent set by WWE's flagship event, WrestleMania, which permanently adopted a two-night structure in 2020. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad There are several reasons behind the expansion: it enhances the fan experience by allowing for more matches and giving more Superstars a chance to perform on a grand stage, preventing individual nights from feeling excessively long. Of course, from a business perspective, two nights translate to increased revenue potential through additional ticket sales, merchandise, and viewership. Holding events in vast NFL stadiums, as SummerSlam has done since 2021, also makes a two-night format more feasible and profitable for filling such large venues. WWE's Chief Content Officer, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, has openly supported expanding major events, likening it to a "Disney" model where fans can fully immerse themselves in a "destination weekend," reflecting WWE's strategic ambition to elevate their Premium Live Events into even grander entertainment spectacles. What matches have (so far) been confirmed for SummerSlam and what night will they occur? ‘Throwback' Netflix comedy is addictive viewing despite a ‘terrible' first episode

Netflix's new comedy series stars a rising star comedian as a fictional version of herself, who has to navigate life as a newly single mum Netflix has just unveiled the debut season of a fresh sitcom that's got critics buzzing - though it stumbles with a rather lacklustre first episode. ‌ The show features comedian Leanne Morgan, who shot to fame in her 50s following her 2023 Netflix comedy special, playing a fictionalised version of herself as her world gets turned upside down. ‌ After her longtime husband Bill (played by Ryan Stiles) drops the bombshell that he's ditching her for someone younger, Leanne refuses to roll over and begins rebuilding her existence as a newly single mother. ‌ Joining her journey are Leanne's chaotic sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), who's been through two divorces, her perfect son Tyler (Graham Rogers), and her wayward daughter Josie (Hannah Pilkes). Leanne also finds herself caring for her elderly parents - the steadfast Daddy John (Blake Clark) and sweet Mama Margaret (Celia Weston), reports the Mirror US. ‌ Co-created by Morgan alongside The Big Bang Theory's Chuck Lorre, the series titled Leanne has the potential to become Netflix's most successful original comedy in years, provided viewers persevere through the rocky start. The Guardian's review cautions that despite the show's endearing lead, the series suffers from "terribly written" scripts, with the opening episode proving particularly cringe-worthy. "It is best to be upfront about these things and say that the opening episode is bad," they wrote. "Worse than you've just assumed when I said 'bad'. Gone is the lightness of touch, the consummate ease, the subtly immaculate timing of her stage show; instead, we have a leaden script punctuated by a desperate laughter track, and a one-note performance by Morgan." ‌ Yet, despite initially criticising the programme's wobbly start, the critique eventually acknowledged that the debut series transforms into a soothing 22-minute escape. "And once your expectations are suitably lowered, it takes on a charm of its own," the review continued. "The colours are bright. The multi-camera format reminds you of happier, simpler times from your youth. Morgan and Johnston are in almost every scene and have comedy chops that can overcome even the most defiantly second- and third-tier writing and reward your viewing investment with glimmers of merriment. It starts to take on a rosy hue." ‌ Watch Stranger Things on Netflix for free with Sky This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it. The Hollywood Reporter also commended the show's gentle wit, noting: "That its throwback sensibility mostly comes off as classic rather than hoary is a testament to the competence of the seasoned cast and crew, as well as to Morgan's confident lead turn. "It helps, too, that the episodes never overstay their welcome, clocking in at around 20 minutes each in an era when 'half-hour' streaming comedies have a habit of ballooning into 40-minute run times." Viewers who enjoy family comedies like The Conners or laid-back sitcoms such as Superstore should certainly give Leanne a go for some light-hearted laughs on a relaxed morning.
