Jaipur: In a significant move towards youth empowerment, the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) has announced that 50% of its tickets for upcoming local body elections will be reserved for candidates under 50 years of age.

The announcement came from Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra following a two-day consultation with party coordinators from all 200 assembly constituencies here.
The initiative, which aligns with the party's 2022 Udaipur Declaration, will be implemented in the urban body and Panchayati Raj elections scheduled for 2025 and 2026, respectively. This marks the first major implementation of the declaration's proposal to allocate half of the party tickets to younger members.
"This decision reflects our commitment to recognising grassroots leadership and empowering the next generation," said Dotasra. "Inputs from mandal, block and district presidents will play a major role in the ticket distribution process," he said.
The reservation policy will apply to all positions contested on party symbols, including municipal chairpersons, mayors, Zila Pramukhs and Panchayat Samiti members.
Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi confirmed that local units have been directed to identify and groom promising young candidates for electoral roles. The party is also reviewing its organisational structure, with plans to replace inactive office-bearers with more field-engaged members based on feedback from 200 assembly constituency coordinators.
The elections are currently on hold due to the state govt's 'One State, One Election' policy, which aims to synchronise all local elections. In the interim, administrators have been appointed to oversee various Panchayats and urban bodies. This strategic move is seen as part of the Congress party's broader efforts to revitalise its grassroots base and promote youth participation in local governance across Rajasthan.

Halt Goalpara eviction, give land to affected: Cong to CM

1 2 3 4 5 6 Guwahati: Senior Congress leader and leader of the opposition in Assam assembly, Debabrata Saikia, wrote to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma , urging him to stay the eviction in Goalpara and to provide alternate land to those evicted and those yet to be evicted. A total of 667 families were evicted for allegedly encroaching over 600 bighas of land at Hasilabeel village under Balijana revenue circle in lower Assam's Goalpara district. The families mostly belong to the Bengali-speaking Muslim community, officials said. Saikia urged the CM to direct the Goalpara district commissioner not to evict the people until the CM meets with the people of the village on June 18. "We have already stated that we will cooperate with the govt to free the land from encroachers, subject to compliance with various guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, and also laws and rules enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly for eviction of landless people and rehabilitation, in case they are evicted from govt land, Khas land, reserve land, etc," he added. He said it was apparent that the people occupying the land in question were living there as they had no alternative land to build their houses and provide shelter to their families. He also directed a Congress delegation, led by chief whip of the party in the Assembly Wazed Ali Choudhury, to visit the eviction site at the earliest and submit a memorandum to the governor, urging him to ensure fair practice and extend all help for rehabilitation, in case eviction of citizens is carried out from the presently occupied land by the govt as per rules. On the other hand, an eight-member Congress delegation was stopped by Assam Police and local authorities from visiting the eviction site. Police put up barricades at Hashila Beel in Goalpara to stop the Congress MLAs from proceeding.

Congress: Govt delaying caste census, its intention is to grab headlines

A day after the notification for the upcoming Census was issued by the Centre, the Congress on Tuesday hit out at the government, alleging that the caste census was being delayed and the government's intention appears to be to 'grab headlines and manage the narrative'. Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot also said the objective cannot just be to collect data on an individual's caste but to understand the living conditions of families and create policies to improve their lives.

Amid uncertainty over alliance with BJP, JD(S) sets out to strengthen party machinery

Bengaluru: JD(S) has launched a state-wide organisational revival drive as doubts swirl around its alliance with BJP in Karnataka. In a strategic move, JD(S) kicked off an ambitious online membership campaign on Sunday, aiming to enrol 50 lakh new members by Aug 15. As part of the campaign, JD(S) youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy began a state tour on Monday from Tumakuru, focusing first on southern Karnataka districts — considered the Vokkaliga heartland — in a bid to consolidate the party's core support base. The heightened political activity in JD(S) comes amid rising tension within BJP over the future of the alliance. The two parties, which had earlier jointly taken on the Congress-led govt, have recently conducted separate agitations — notably over price rise and the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident, where they refrained from presenting a united front. While both parties have confirmed they will contest upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat polls separately, a section of BJP functionaries is pushing to sever ties entirely ahead of the next assembly elections. "BJP is strong enough to defeat Congress on its own," said Sakaleshpur legislator S Manjunath, popularly known as Cement Manju. "An alliance with JD(S) could deny us a clear mandate." But JD(S) functionaries insist an alliance is crucial to challenge Congress' dominance in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Walgreens Hides This Cheap 87¢ Generic Cialis Health Alliance by Friday Plans Undo Former MLC and party election coordinator KA Tippeswamy said the alliance primarily targets assembly and parliamentary polls and would continue for the next assembly election as well. "Our party brass has decided to leave it to district functionaries to decide on a tie-up for ZP and TP elections," he said. Speaking at the launch of the membership drive, JD(S) state president and Union minister HD Kumaraswamy dismissed rumours of a rift. "The alliance is intact. Vested interests are even spreading canards about my health. Those spreading rumours about the fragility of the alliance or about my health will be proven wrong. We will present a united front to defeat Congress," Kumaraswamy said. Sources indicate BJP's central leadership is in favour of the alliance, given growing concerns about internal cohesion and the party's struggle to consolidate Vokkaliga votes. They point out that while BJP state president BY Vijayendra faces resistance from some factions, a significant section of BJP members, especially from the Vokkaliga community, view the partnership with JD(S) as vital. Former deputy chief minister and senior BJP legislator CN Ashwath Narayan echoed this sentiment, saying, "Our mission is to oust this corrupt and incompetent govt and ensure a Congress-mukt Karnataka. We will do whatever is necessary, and our high command will take a final call on the alliance and election strategy."
