Rihanna is finally back with a new song called 'Friend of Mine,' her first since 2022.
It's a fun, fast-paced dance track that shows up on the soundtrack for the upcoming *Smurfs* movie. Rihanna isn't just singing this time, she's also voicing Smurfette in the film, which also stars Sandra Oh, Natasha Lyonne, and James Corden. The song has a big club vibe and was produced by Jon Bellion, who's worked with Justin Bieber before. Rihanna's voice pops in and out of the beat, and honestly, it's kind of hard to tell how much of it is really her.
It's got more of a sampled feel, but fans, aka the Navy, are just happy to hear anything new from her.
'Friend of Mine' is the second song to be released from the *Smurfs* soundtrack. The first was 'Higher Love' by Desi Trill with DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi. The full album comes out on July 13 and will also have a new track by Tyla. It's been a long time since Rihanna dropped an album, not since *Anti* back in 2016.
She's been teasing new music for years, but only gives us songs tied to movies. On top of that, she's been busy with her Fenty brand and her growing family. At the 2025 Met Gala, she confirmed she's pregnant with her third baby with A$AP Rocky, so yeah, music isn't her only focus these days.

Harvey Milk was just the start, Navy to rename other ships named for liberal heroes
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's decision to strip the name of trailblazing LGBT+ activist Harvey Milk from a U.S. Navy vessel will be followed by the renaming of many more ships, according to reports. Documents obtained by CBS News indicate that other vessels could be renamed as part of Hegseth's purge of 'woke' ideology from the military in addition to the USNS Harvey Milk, including the USNS Thurgood Marshall, the USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the USNS Harriet Tubman, the USNS Dolores Huerta, the USNS Lucy Stone, the USNS Cesar Chavez, and the USNS Medgar Evers. The vessels placed on the Navy's 'recommended list' for renaming are all named for liberal icons. The task of renaming the ships will fall to Navy Secretary John Phelan. 'Secretary Hegseth is committed to ensuring that the names attached to all Department of Defense installations and assets are reflective of the commander-in-chief's priorities, our nation's history, and the warrior ethos,' the Pentagon said in a statement. Since being confirmed by the Senate in January, Hegseth has ordered the U.S. military to stamp out diversity, equity, and inclusion hiring practices in accordance with an executive order from President Donald Trump. The order extends to ending associations with minority awareness events such as Pride Month, Black History Month, and Women's History Month. These moves caused uproar in March when pages paying tribute to the service of American icons Jackie Robinson, the Navajo Code Talkers and Ira Hayes were removed from the Pentagon website, with his then-spokesperson John Ullyot issuing a statement declaring: 'DEI is dead at the Department of Defense.' Responding to the decision to rename the USNS Harvey Milk, a replenishment oiler given its name in 2021, California LGBT+ activist Nicole Murray-Ramirez told NBC San Diego: 'The truth is this administration has made it clear they want to erase the LGBTQ community and its history. It wants to erase a lot of history.' 'This does nothing to help crew members prepare for war. It's nothing but a distraction,' added James Seddon, a Navy veteran of 20 years experience, who pointed to the logistical problems likely to arise from the name change. 'Thousands of things will have to be reprinted or embroidered, from [the] ship's ball caps (which are part of the official uniform) to many other uniform parts that contain the ship's name. 'Not to mention that the ship's name isn't simply painted on the hull. There's raised steel that spells the name. The hull will have to be grinded down to rename the ship.' Seddon also warned of 'unnecessary controversy between members of the crew' arising from potential clashes of views that could undermine 'unit cohesion and training.' Milk became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California when he became a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in January 1978, having won a historic election the previous year. He was assassinated the following November after the passage of a bill prohibiting housing and employment discrimination because of sexual orientation. As a young man, Milk joined the Navy in 1951 and served as an operations and diving officer on the submarines USS Kittiwake and USS Chanticleer. But, in 1954, he was court-martialed after being accused of taking part in a 'homosexual act,' ultimately choosing to resign his commission and accept an 'Other Than Honorable' discharge rather than face trial. His story was told in Gus Van Sant's 2008 biopic Milk starring Sean Penn.

Did you see that no-visible-means-of-support dress that Stella McCartney was wearing at the Met Gala? The one where she was standing next to Mary J. Blige, who was in an ivory Stella tuxedo and coat? Somehow, said dress, in white, forest-friendly viscose, was suspended from a wired off-the-shoulder infrastructure. It then swooped into a deep plunge, and flowed onwards into a sumptuous goddess-y drape. But how does it stay on? 'It's architectural, almost like a Christo,' she explained on a Zoom call. 'It's suspended off a corset. The corsetry comes up, and it just captures you, and it just extends beyond the area of your bust and creates this dramatic silhouette. I love the simplicity of it, and the drama of it.' It turns out she was test-driving the studio prototype at the Met. 'It feels so wearable when you have it on. I think it's quite difficult to create a dress that you can wear and feel modern, and still yourself in,' she testifies. That dress, as well as other variants on the wired neckline, appear in the pre-spring collection. Recently—since she became independent—McCartney has become even more focused on what she does best. 'On the strengths that we have that are very clear to me and to the team and also very individual. I think it's about having an attitude. A really strong point of view that I have always had as Stella. And this effortlessness as well.' Dilution and caution are not part of the plan. This pre-spring collection is named A Walk on the Wild Side, a punning nod to McCartney's love for nature and animals, as well as for hot, sexy dressing. It repeats and underscores the shapes in the last runway collection—and the idea she tags 'Laptop to Lapdance,' the synonym for day-to-evening, in Stella-speak. The laptop itself can be accommodated in the enlarged Ryder bag, which comes in recycled faux suede or ostrich look-alike Mycelium-based leather. 'We are an activist brand, and an artistic brand. You can have both.' She has something to cover every eventuality, in a collection that is achieved with 96% conscious materials and is 100% cruelty-free. There is her tailoring (eternally inspired by the Savile Row bespoke suits her parents ordered from Tommy Nutter), a white midi-dress with a back-dipping hem, and a sweatsuit with knitwear embedded trompe l'oeil-wise in the front. Loving animals doesn't hold Stella back from loving animal prints. Last season it was snake, this time it's an oversized ocelot fur pattern, scanned from a photograph of the cat's incredibly beautiful markings. The arc of the brand's offering includes a full spectrum of eveningwear. The drapey, clingy super-short part of it surely harks back to the 1980s and to the second coming of body-con, the neon-bright disco-dress rage which came out of London in the 2000s. She likens the super-molded ones to lingerie contour engineering. 'Just really simple, like power mesh, this little suck-you-in hot, sexy, chuck-it-in-a-bag dress,' as she puts it. A whole new generation can now take advantage of this; if they were born in 2000, they'd be 25 years old, which happens to be exactly the same age as the Stella McCartney business. The arc of what McCartney does lands in souped-up denim—she says she's been doing well with demand for fake leather 'chaps' jeans and standouts like her fierce cross-lacing seamed ones. There's a tank printed with the word HARDCORE amongst this section. Meaningless fun? Yes, maybe, yet even there, McCartney's relentless pursuit of eliminating harm shows up. According to the press release, the black printing is done with Living Ink, a natural renewable non-toxic dye made from spirulina waste, a byproduct 'from the national supplement industry.'
