'Armed terrorists attacked a Frontier Corps (FC) convoy with heavy weapons... The fighting continued for several hours,' a senior local security official told AFP.
'Eight FC personnel were killed, and 11 were injured,' he said.
Three injured soldiers are in critical condition, while the clash also killed four militants, he added.
A senior administration official in the area confirmed the details to AFP.
The clash, which lasted for several hours, took place in Daburi, Orakzai district, near the Afghan border.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists belonging to the Indian-sponsored 'Fitna al Hindustan' targeted a security forces' vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mastung on the night of August 5 and 6. As a result of the blast, three soldiers — Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir (age: 31 years, resident of Narowal district), Naik Ibni Amin (age: 37 years, resident of Swabi district), and Lance Naik Muhammad Younas (age: 33 years, resident of Karak district) — embraced shahadat (martyrdom). In the ensuing sanitisation operation, four Indian-sponsored terrorists were located and sent to hell, the statement read. The ISPR added that the sanitisation operation would continue to eliminate any remaining threats in the area. 'Pakistan's security forces remain committed to eradicating the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country, and the supreme sacrifices of our brave sons only strengthen our resolve,' the statement concluded.

Israeli attacks kill 68 Gazans
Gaza's civil defence agency said 68 people were killed by Israeli gunfire and air strikes on Tuesday, including 56 who were waiting near aid distribution sites inside the Palestinian territory. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that 30 people were killed by Israeli gunfire while waiting for aid near the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis. The army told AFP that troops "fired warning shots" in the direction "a gathering of Gazans advancing" towards them in the so-called Morag corridor in the south, but added it was "not aware of any casualties as a result". Bassal said another 20 people were killed and 100 wounded by Israeli fire near the Zikim border crossing in northern Gaza, through which some aid trucks have entered the territory in recent weeks.

4 IS attackers on trial over Moscow venue attack
Nineteen people went on trial in Moscow on Monday over an attack on a city concert hall that killed 149 people in one of the deadliest strikes in Russia. Armed men stormed the Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow on March 22, 2024, opening fire and then setting the building alight, injuring hundreds of people. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility. The four suspected attackers, all from Tajikistan -- an ex-Soviet republic in central Asia -- and another 15 people accused of being accomplices have gone on trial. An AFP reporter at the courtroom before saw some of the defendants in glass cages, their hands cuffed behind their backs. Around 30 survivors were also present. One of them, Tatiana Ruzanova, told AFP she came to the court to see the defendants.
