Damaging waves and rain are set to hit parts of KwaZulu-Natal
'Sea users, especially near southern KwaZulu-Natal, should be on high alert,' said Odirile Modipa, a forecaster with the weather service.
'The waves are expected to be strong and damaging.'
Inland areas won't be spared from the weather changes either. Rain is expected to extend from the Eastern Cape into KwaZulu-Natal, bringing light but widespread showers across most parts of the province, especially during the morning and afternoon hours.
Coastal cities like Durban and Richards Bay will experience maximum temperatures of 22°C and 25°C, respectively. Meanwhile, overnight lows will hover around 13°C in Port St. John's and 14°C in Margate. These conditions, combined with the ongoing rainfall, will keep KwaZulu-Natal cool and damp throughout the day.
Further inland, areas such as Ladysmith and Pietermaritzburg can also expect light rain and lower daytime temperatures, with much of the province under partly cloudy to cloudy skies.
Although KwaZulu-Natal is unlikely to see snow, the nearby high-altitude areas in Lesotho are expected to receive light snowfall overnight going into tomorrow. This may affect travellers using the Drakensberg routes, particularly those heading toward the Free State or Eastern Cape.

The intense thunderstorm activity is predicted to bring damaging winds and localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and informal settlements. Commuters and motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution. Additionally, the weather pattern is driven by a cut-off low-pressure system, which will shift eastwards after Thursday. Snow falls over parts of the country as a cold front moves in
Parts of the Eastern Cape will experience light snow on Wednesday, 6 August, as a cold front pushes across the interior of South Africa. Snowfall is expected in the province's northwestern and mountainous regions. Forecaster Odirile Modipa confirmed the snowfall, saying, 'Light snow has been observed over the northern parts of the Eastern Cape and is expected to continue into tomorrow.' The cold front also triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape. Severe weather alerts have been issued, including a yellow level 1 warning for damaging waves along the southern coastline. 'Severe thunderstorms are likely in the central interior, including parts of the Northern Cape and Free State,' said Modipa. She added that these could bring strong winds and hail. Sutherland, known for its cold weather, recorded an overnight minimum of -2°C. Maximum temperatures in the region remain below 10°C, with Cape Town reaching only 15°C and East London at 16°C.
