She fell from the fourth deck of the $900 million Disney Dream vessel on June 29 as the ship was heading from the Bahamas to Florida.
Her hero dad, 37, managed to keep her afloat for 20 minutes before rescue services arrived at the scene.
But the Florida Sheriff's Office has now shared its findings on how exactly the nightmare incident unfolded.
Officials say that the girl had been sitting on a railing and fell into the sea when she lost her balance.
Her father did not see the incident to start with, and was alerted to the situation when his wife made him aware.
"After the girl's mother alerted her husband, who didn't see the incident, he jumped into the ocean to save his daughter," a Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
Crucially, the report has debunked online speculation that her dad had intentionally placed her on the railing to take photos.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said the five-year-old fell "backwards through a porthole" by herself after losing her balance.
Witnesses heard the mother screaming and saying "she's five and can't swim".
Once alert to the incident, the dad quickly leapt to the rescue and managed to keep his daughter afloat for 20 minutes, according to detectives.

They were then rescued from the waves and brought back on board.
Hundreds of passengers watched on as the terrifying events unfolded.
Passenger Monica Shannon told the Daily Mail that "the parents were playing shuffleboard and the girl was climbing on the railings.
"And as she went to climb up again she flew off."
She added that high winds on the day could have contributed to the child falling into the ocean.
The ship's captain notified passengers of the incident once the rescue effort was complete.
A Disney Cruise Lines spokesperson said: "The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water.
"We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.
"We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols."

Miley Cyrus says lack of ‘infrastructure' has left her with no ‘desire' to tour
Pop star Miley Cyrus has said she has no 'desire' to go on tour, adding that there is not enough 'infrastructure' to support artists. The singer, 32, who rose to fame after starring in the Disney Channel program Hannah Montana, is best known for her hit songs We Can't Stop, Wrecking Ball, and Flowers. Advertisement Despite releasing a new album, Something Beautiful, in May, the singer said she is not interested in touring, describing the toll it takes on her mental health. Miley Cyrus told Good Morning America that she had no 'desire' to tour (Doug Peters/PA) Speaking on ABC's Good Morning America, Cyrus said: 'I do have the physical ability and I have the opportunities to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don't.' She added: 'I also don't think that there's actually an infrastructure that supports artists. 'Artists like Prince, that are not here today, that lived such a high-intensity lifestyle out on the road, and it's really hard to maintain sobriety when you're on the road, which is a really important kind of pillar of stability in my life. The popstar was last on tour in 2022, performing at festivals across North and South America. 'You have so many thousands of people screaming at you, so dopamine, you're feeling a lot of love, and then you totally crash at the end of the show and you start thinking that one person loving you is not enough, it needs to be 10,000, it needs to be 80,000.' Advertisement This comes after Cyrus joined singer Beyonce during her Cowboy Carter tour to perform their track II Most Wanted at a show in Paris. She said: 'When you're standing beside her, you can actually feel her desire and her passion. That, to me, is a win. It's not a trophy, it's not something physical that you hold or put on a shelf, but it's something that I have that's a true win. The singer also stars in a new film, Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful, which will be available to stream on Disney+ from July 30th.

Castle that inspired Walt Disney receives Unesco protection
Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps, with its playful towers and turrets, served as the model for Disney's 'Sleeping Beauty' castle and has now been named as a Unesco World Heritage site. King Ludwig II envisioned a 'holy and unapproachable' medieval knights' castle, employing theatrical set designers to help create the marvellous structure built in the late 19th century. The castle's interior features Wagnerian motifs, including elements from Parsifal in the Singers' Hall, and an elaborate grotto connecting living spaces. Ludwig II's extensive building projects, which also included Herrenchiemsee, Linderhof, and the Royal House at Schachen, strained the Bavarian treasury. The king was declared insane and died mysteriously before Neuschwanstein was completed, leading to the castle opening as a tourist attraction just seven weeks later and its recent recognition by Unesco.

Boy, 6, ‘kills premature newborn baby after dropping infant on floor like a doll when left to roam maternity unit'
HOSPITAL HORROR Boy, 6, 'kills premature newborn baby after dropping infant on floor like a doll when left to roam maternity unit' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SIX-year-old boy allegedly killed a premature newborn baby after dropping her on the floor. A criminal investigation has been launched after the horror unfolded at the Jeanne-de-Flandre Children's Hospital in Lille. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Jeanne-de-Flandre Children's Hospital in Lille A baby identified as Zayneb-Cassandra was declared dead yesterday. She suffered a traumatic brain injury last Friday after allegedly being dropped on the floor by the boy. He was found alone with the unconscious baby in a neonatal unit. The boy, described as a "disruptive presence", was spotted wandering around the hospital unattended. Investigators said he "treated the baby like a doll". The baby was her mother's first child, who was born premature at seven and a half months to a 23-year-old mum. Zayneb-Cassandra's grandmother told the Voix du Nord newspaper: "The boy would arrive at 7am and spend all day running up and down the hallways. "All the mothers were complaining, and a nurse even warned the child's mother that there was a problem. He was entering the other rooms. "He also entered Zayneb's room for the first time. He said she looked like a doll, and my husband, who was there, took him out." Zayneb was found unresponsive on the floor, next to the six-year-old, who was in a chair. "It seems he tried to grab her by her nappy, and she fell on her head," said Zayneb's grandmother. The baby was rushed to intensive care - but was declared dead after suffering "a serious brain injury". An investigation has been opened by the juvenile unit of the Lille Judicial Police Service, in conjunction with local prosecutors. A spokesman said: "Investigations are currently underway in this case." The hospital also announced the opening of "an internal administrative investigation". More to follow...
