Ariana DeBose's mom dies of complications from ovarian cancer

Ariana DeBose's mother Gina Michelle DeBose died Sunday morning "due to complications with stage 3 ovarian cancer," the actress and singer said this week. The "West Side Story" and "Love Hurts" star took to Instagram on Tuesday, posting a carousel of photos and a touching tribute to her "gorgeous, hilarious, outspoken, warrior queen Mother." "I couldn't be more proud of her and how she fought this insidious disease over the past 3 years. She was 57 years young," DeBose wrote in the caption. "She was my favorite person, my biggest fan and toughest critic. My best friend. She was my date to every important moment in my professional and personal life - and I wouldn't have it any other way," the post continued. "It had always been the two of us for as long as I can remember." Ariana DeBose talks taking on 'incredibly challenging' role in new film, 'I.S.S.' DeBose said her mom "fought like hell to give me a good life, a good education and every opportunity in the world. I wouldn't be where I am without her." The Academy Award winner recalled a moment from her 2022 Oscars acceptance speech -- delivered after winning the award for best supporting actress for her role as Anita in "West Side Story" -- writing, "I meant it when I said my Oscar 'is just as much hers as it is mine.'" DeBose also highlighted her mom's purpose in life, to educate young people. "She passed just shy of delivering 30 years of service as a public school teacher," she wrote. "She was beloved and incredibly respected by her colleagues and students alike. The greatest advocate for the underdog, a believer in arts education and the smartest person I know - with a willingness to speak her mind regardless of the consequences." She added that her "greatest and most proud achievement will always be to have made her proud." Review: Oscar winner Ariana DeBose excels in 'I.S.S.' In one of the carousel photos, DeBose left a detailed note outlining where people could donate in her mother's memory. "Details for a celebration of her life will be made available in the coming weeks," the note read. "At this time, I ask that my family's privacy be respected." A representative for DeBose did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment. What to know about ovarian cancer Ovarian cancer is the second-most common gynecologic cancer in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the agency, the disease "causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system." While most women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are not at high risk, according to the CDC, there are many factors that could potentially increase a woman's risk for ovarian cancer, including a family history of the disease; a genetic mutation such as BRCA1 or BRCA2, "or one associated with Lynch syndrome"; a history of breast, uterine or colon cancer; or a diagnosis of endometriosis, described by the CDC as a condition where tissue from the lining of the uterus grows elsewhere in the body. How 3 women trusted their instincts and discovered they had cancer Those who are middle-aged or older, people with an Eastern European or Ashkenazi Jewish background, or those who have never given birth or who have had issues getting pregnant may also be at increased risk for ovarian cancer. Symptoms can include abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure, bloating, a change in bowel habits, or "feeling full too quickly, or difficulty eating." Knowing risk factors is imperative as the Pap test does not screen for ovarian cancer, and the CDC says "there is no reliable way to screen for ovarian cancer in women who do not have any symptoms." Jimmy Carter to be honored with Forever stamp

Former President Carter will be honored by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) with a Forever stamp set to go on sale Oct. 1, which would have been his 101st birthday. 'The stamp program celebrates the best in American culture, places and people, and it is difficult to consider a more fitting honoree than former President Jimmy Carter,' Peter Pastre, the Postal Service's government relations and public policy vice president, said in a statement. 'In his support and leadership of his beloved community, state and nation, he lent his quiet, thoughtful and deliberate energy around causes he believed in, and most certainly in his conduct and accomplishments as a former president, Jimmy Carter truly personified the best in America,' the Postal Service official added. The stamp was designed by art director Ethel Kessler and will feature a 1982 oil-on-linen painting created as a life study by artist Herbert E. Abram, the USPS said. Carter was the country's longest-living former president before he died in December at age 100. World dignitaries gathered at his funeral to honor his contributions to the country and global diplomacy through the Camp David Accords and SALT II treaty. 'Jimmy Carter's friendship taught me, and through his life taught me, that strength of character is more than title or the power we hold. It's the strength to understand that everyone should be treated with dignity, respect,' former President Biden said during Carter's eulogy. 'That everyone, and I mean everyone, deserves an even shot. Not a guarantee, but just a shot,' he added. Carter, who hailed from Plains, Ga., spent decades dedicated to public service both nationally and abroad alongside his wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter. 'The Carter family and the Friends of Jimmy Carter are honored to be able to take part in revealing the design for President Carter's Forever stamp,' Kim Carter Fuller, executive director of the Friends of Jimmy Carter, said in a statement after the stamp's design was unveiled. 'Together we've had the distinct privilege of a front row seat to his life and legacy, and today's reveal gives the world an opportunity to share his legacy with others on a daily basis.'

Palm Royale Season 2 will officially premiere on Wednesday, November 12, kicking off its 10-episode run with the first episode, followed by one installment each Wednesday through January 14, 2026. Does Palm Royale have a Season 2 trailer? No, there is currently no trailer for Palm Royale, but Apple TV+ unveiled several first-look photos and a new poster teasing Season 2, which you can see above and below. Stay tuned for the trailer as we approach Season 2's arrival. Apple TV+ Who stars in Palm Royale Season 2? The show's official Season 2 announcement teases Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Amber Chardae Robinson, Kaia Gerber, and Carol Burnett are back leading the ensemble that also includes Mindy Cohn and Julia Duffy. The news is certainly interesting, considering Martin's character, Robert, was shot at the end of Season 2, leaving his life in the balance. Apple TV+ Meanwhile, Just Jared teased that John Stamos was seen on set alongside Wiig filming for Season 2, and Patti Lupone is also reportedly set to feature in three episodes, according to the star, who spilled on her role during an appearance on Andy Cohen's podcast, Andy Cohen Live. Whether or not Lupone will appear in more than three installments is unclear, but her conversation with Cohen revealed that she won't cross paths onscreen with Carol Burnett: 'No, I'm not in her story, I'm sorry to say. I'm in my own story,' Lupone told Cohen when asked if she'd share the screen with the legendary performer. What will Palm Royale Season 2 be about? Season 1 of the series was inspired by the book Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, but as fans saw in the finale, a cliffhanger ending raised plenty of questions and set up various paths for the show to take going forward. As fans will recall, there are several big questions that are lingering, including what's going to happen now that the true identity of Burnett's Norma has been uncovered, especially considering that the only character to know the truth, Robert, may actually die. And Robert learned that Norma wasn't a wealthy Dellacort, but in fact Norma's former boarding school roommate, Agnes, who seemingly killed her classmate years prior, assuming her identity and fortune. We'd also hope that Season 2 would further explore the ramifications of that reality as well as address Maxine's (Wiig) relationship with Douglas (Lucas) after she learned he got her manicurist Mitzi (Gerber) pregnant. According to Season 2's logline, Maxine has become a social pariah after her public breakdown, and she'll have to draw on her deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove that not only does she belong, but she just might have what it takes to rule this town. Along the way, she'll uncover untold truths and finally understand what this town is truly built on… secrets, lies, and the occasional felony. Stay tuned for updates and news surrounding Palm Royale's second season, and let us know what you hope to see when the series returns.
