Nigerian student pleads not guilty to biting policeman's ear
Okenyehike Kelvin Obianke, 38, was charged with committing the offence on Corporal Danierul Azraq Ahmad Khair, 36, in front of a clinic in Metro Prima, Kepong, near here, at 10.10 am last April 25.
The charge, framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine if convicted.
Magistrate S Mageswary did not allow the accused, who was unrepresented, bail and set June 10 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Mohamad Poad appeared for the prosecution.
Meanwhile, in the court before Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim, Obianke pleaded not guilty to a charge of entering Malaysia without valid travel documents.
He was charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 with committing the offence at the same place, date and time.
The Nigerian student faced a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years or both, if convicted of the offence.
He also pleaded not guilty to self-administration of a drug by injecting Benzo (Nimetazepam) into his body at the toilet of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division Office of the Sentul Police Headquarters (IPD) at 3am last April 26.
The charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of not more than two years, upon conviction.
No bail was allowed, and the court set July 23 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal appeared for the prosecution in the case. - Bernama

NIBONG TEBAL: A lorry driver was arrested for reckless driving during a police chase and for obstructing authorities from inspecting his vehicle during an integrated operation on Saturday night. "Initial investigations showed that the suspect did not have a valid driving license or Goods Driver's License (GDL). "Further checks indicated that the vehicle's road tax had expired, although its insurance remained valid," he said in a statement on Sunday. Jay added that the suspect tested negative for drugs during a urine screening and that the vehicle had been seized. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. "We want to remind the public that reckless driving is a serious offence that can result in fatal accidents, and we will not hesitate to take stern action," he said. Jay said police would intensify enforcement efforts, particularly operations targeting dangerous drivers, to ensure the safety of all road users.

Melaka police seek public help in dog abuse case at Krubong industrial area
MELAKA: Police are seeking the public's assistance in providing information regarding a shocking case of animal abuse at the Krubong industrial area, where a dog was found severely injured, with parts of its body and head stripped of fur and skinned. Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said they received a report about the incident at 2.43pm today. "The incident is believed to have occurred last Friday at around 3pm when the complainant, along with representatives from several animal welfare NGOs, responded to a tip-off from the public. "Upon inspection near a factory in the industrial area, the dog was found with serious injuries to its body and neck, suspected to have been caused by abuse," he said in a statement here tonight. The animal was rushed to a veterinary clinic, but after a thorough examination, it was determined that the injuries were too severe. On the advice of the veterinarian, the dog was euthanised to prevent further suffering. The case is being investigated under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries penalties of up to RM100,000 in fines, three years of imprisonment, or both.
