Speaking on the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Sitharaman said, "When the government brings a Budget for Manipur - allocating funds for its development - the Opposition neither listens to it nor has the courage to engage with it."
She announced that the government has made an additional allocation of Rs 2,898 crore for Manipur, of which Rs 1,667 crore will be spent under the Capital Head and Rs 1,231 crore under the Revenue Head.
The additional fund allocation is said to support rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), security-related expenditure, deployment charges for CAPFs, prepayment of high-interest loans and additional support under SASCI.

Currently the governor of Maharashtra, a position he has held since July 31, 2024, Radhakrishnan, an OBC from the Goundar-Kongu Vellalar community, was born in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, where he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration. But with the rise of K Annamalai, there was a stir in the party unit, which was attributed to testy relations between the old order and the young crop. The differences came to the fore when Radhakrishnan and Annamalai took a divergent stance on the issue of calling a bandh in Coimbatore against the ruling DMK. While Radhakrishnan gave the call for a bandh, the legal counsel for Annamalai told the Madras high court that no such announcement was made. His nomination for the VP's post is also being read as the party's attempts to strengthen its outreach and footprint in the southern region, particularly in Tamil Nadu where elections are due in 2026. His stint as a parliamentarian, his dyed in the wool RSS credentials and cordial ties with leaders across the political spectrum are seen as attributes that would help him steer the House of Elders as chairman. Although the NDA's strength in the Upper House is 132 members (of 240) and the alliance is expected to win the polls comfortably, the BJP is hopeful that the nominee will get support from other parties that are not part of the opposition's INDIA bloc. In an interview with Sansad TV, Radhakrishnan earlier said he never developed enmity with anyone in his political career and moved along with everyone. 'Some things you don't like can be avoided silently. That was my earlier day character. There was a bomb blast in Coimbatore. I was against the terrorist but not against Muslims. When some Muslims approached me, I went to the police and said that they must arrest only those who are connected with the blast. No one expected this. That's why I am called the Vajpayee of Coimbatore,' he said in the interview.

Kolkata: When 22-year-old Amir Sk, who had been deported to Bangladesh on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant, returned home to Malda's Kaliachak last week, hope flickered in Murarai, Birbhum. There, Bhodu Sk and Amir Khan are still waiting for the return of their family members, who were sent across the border under similar circumstances. Like Amir, they had shot a video pleading for help. Unlike him, they haven't come back. Fifty-two-year-old Bhodu has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking the return of his daughter Sunali Khatun, her husband Danish Sheikh and their minor son Sabir Sheikh. He has petitioned the Calcutta HC for the return of his cousin Sweety Biwi and her sons Qurban Sheikh (16) and Imam Dewan (6), allegedly deported to Bangladesh around June 27. Chennai: The State Platform for Common School System (SPCSS) on Saturday urged the chief minister M K Stalin to examine concerns expressed on State Education Policy (SEP) for school education and hold direct consultations with all members of the high-level committee, organisations, and individuals who presented their suggestions for strengthening it. "Student organisations, educational bodies, and educationists have come out with various suggestions to improve and strengthen the policy. The hallmark of democracy is to hear and respond to criticism," said P B Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary of the SPCSS-TN, in his representation to the chief minister Stalin. "If the policy is implemented without addressing any of the issues raised by various forums, it will have a disastrous effect on the govt-funded school education system that was built on the principles of social justice," he further said.
