The 1990s was a truly magical time for movie lovers, producing a plethora of unforgettable films.

As an entertainment journalist, I've had the challenging task of narrowing down my personal top 10 from this decade.

It's no easy feat to compile a list of the top 10 films from such a rich period in cinematic history, but as a dedicated film fanatic and entertainment reporter, I've given it my best shot.

So, which films have made the grade? Here are my top 10 favourite films from the 1990s, chosen with the discerning eye of an entertainment journalist.
Top 10 90s films ranked
10 - Misery
First on the list is the 1990 classic 'Misery', based on Stephen King's chilling crime novel of the same name.

The plot revolves around novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan), who after a severe car accident, is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), his self-proclaimed 'biggest fan'.
Annie takes him to her secluded cabin to recuperate, but things take a sinister turn when she discovers that Sheldon plans to kill off her favourite character from his novels.
Misery can be streamed on Prime Video.

9 - The Truman Show
Next up is the 1998 comedy sci-fi 'The Truman Show', featuring Jim Carrey, known for his roles in 'The Mask' and 'Ace Ventura'.
This film sees Carrey venture into slightly darker territory, offering a thought-provoking narrative.

The official synopsis reveals: "Unbeknownst to him, Truman Burbank's (Jim Carrey) entire life is part of a vast TV set.
"Executive producer Christof (Ed Harris) masterminds The Truman Show, a live broadcast of Truman's every move, captured by hidden cameras.
"As Truman slowly uncovers the truth, he is faced with the decision of how to respond."

The Truman Show is available to watch on Prime Video.
8 - Beauty and the Beast
Before Emma Watson took on the character of Belle in the 2017 remake, there was the animated 1991 Disney film Beauty and the Beast.

A heartless prince is turned into a beast as punishment for his callous ways and must win someone's love to lift the curse.
This is where he encounters Belle who gradually discovers that there is much more to the Beast than initially appears.
Beauty and the Beast is available to watch on Disney+.

7 - You've Got Mail
The touching 1998 romantic comedy You've Got Mail chronicles the feud between the proprietors of a bookstore chain and a charming independent bookshop.

6 - Muriel's Wedding
Featuring Hereditary actress Toni Collette, Muriel's Wedding will delight ABBA enthusiasts as it features the legendary group's songs throughout.

The synopsis for the 1994 romantic comedy states: "Stuck in a small town with her dominant father, depressed mother and cruel friends, a socially awkward woman takes destiny into her own hands and sets off in search of happiness and her ideal groom."
Muriel's Wedding is available to watch on Prime Video.
5 - What's Love Got To Do With It

This Tina Turner biographical film recounts the genuine story of the iconic pop rock performer from departing her existence in St Louis to her ascent to fame and her violent marriage.
The acclaimed 1993 film features Black Panther star Angela Bassett portraying Turner and The Matrix legend Laurence Fishburne as Ike Turner.
What's Love Got to do With It can be streamed on Prime Video.

4 - Jurassic Park
Kicking off the blockbuster franchise in 1993 was the original Jurassic Park movie, featuring a cast headed by Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern.

"After a power failure, the creatures run loose, putting everyone's lives, including his grandchildren's, in danger."

3 - The Silence of the Lambs

Celebrated as one of cinema's most legendary horror pictures is the chilling 1991 thriller The Silence of the Lambs.

Lindsay Lohan pays homage to Alicia Silverstone's plaid outfit from Clueless as she talks up Freakier Friday

Lindsay Lohan brought the sunshine with her as she stepped out in New York City early Monday morning. The glamorous actress, 39, had her A-game style-wise, with an ode to a popular '90s film focused on fashion and romance. Wearing a pastel yellow and black bouclé tweed mini-dress with long sleeves and a pair of high-heel yellow sandals, the Hollywood Film Award winner bore a great resemblance to Alicia Silverstone 's Cher in the 1995 romantic comedy Clueless. Lohan pulled her long, blonde locks away from her face with a yellow headband, and wore camera-ready makeup behind her dark, round sunglasses as she arrived at the Good Morning America studio. After seeing the clip on Lohan's and GMA's Instagram, several people pointed out that she looked like the Clueless character, but some said she was also 'giving Parent Trap vibes!!' as they shared a clip of her character Hallie Parker. Lohan and her Freakier Friday co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis, got up in the wee hours of the morning to talk about their new comedy which debuts August 8 in theaters. The film is a sequel to their 2003 hit body-switch comedy Freaky Friday. Curtis, 66, who looked elegant in a pink pant suit with black heels, explained that it took so long for a sequel to take place, because Lohan, who is the mother of a two-year-old son, had to be old enough to ostensibly be the mother of a teen-age daughter. The Oscar winner said when that happened, it gave her the opportunity to lobby Disney about it and she went straight to the top. 'I've known Bob Iger since since ABC, like early ABC when I was on Anything But Love, and I wrote him an e-mail and he called me and we talked and now here we are.' Even though the projects were two decades apart, Lohan said, 'when we started, it felt like it was yesterday.' 'We've known each other for so long and we're friends off screen and I think that's the beauty of being able to make Freakier Friday, is you don't get to work to often with people that you genuinely love, so it didn't feel as much like work as it normally would.' In this new comedy there's a four-way switch. 'Lohan's Anna is a music producer with a 15-year-old daughter. She is engaged to Eric, played by Manny Jacinto, who has a teen-age daughter too. The future step-sisters don't get along, and Curtis' Tess, is 'still micro-managing me as a mom,' according to Lohan, and thus chaos ensues when the four end up walking in another person's shoes. The film features a lot of physical comedy, which Lohan gladly engages in. 'Any time I can have a Lucille Ball moment on-screen, I want to take that to my advantage because you don't often see a lot of women doing so much physical comedy.' 'Everyone gets so nervous, and they call in five stunt coordinators so no one gets hurt, and it's like, it's fine guys.' Lohan said she enjoyed putting her experience as a mom into her character. ' I wanted Anna to be portrayed a little bit softer in this.,' she explained. 'Any time I can have a Lucille Ball moment on-screen, I want to take that to my advantage because you don't often see a lot of women doing so much physical comedy,' she said Lohan said she also used her experience as a mother to enrich her character. 'We know her as an angsty teen, and now she's a mother, and being a mom just opens your eyes to a whole new world' she said 'We know her as an angsty teen, and now she's a mother, and being a mom just opens your eyes to a whole new world.' She also added that Anna had become a little more like Curtis' character Tess. Curtis said Freakier Friday was a must-see because 'this movie is at a time when people need happiness and joy, I might cry,' she explained getting misty briefly before continuing, 'and family and love and connection.'

This nostalgic M&M's launch with 'Suite Life' star Kim Rhodes is the sweetest drop of the summer

Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more There are two things that really got me through my childhood — candy, and the Disney Channel. In a twist of fate, it seems my childhood is making a comeback with M&M's new collaboration with Kim Rhodes, best known for her role as Carey Martin (the twins' mom) in 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.' Just in time for the show's 20th anniversary, M&M's is coming out with nostalgic PB&J Packed Lunch Specials (available in select cities), each featuring a special handwritten note from your favorite TV mom herself. M&Ms PB&J Packed Lunch Specials There's just a limited amount of these lunch specials so place your orders at 12 p.m. on July 29 to get your own lunch box soon. If you miss out, or if it isn't available in your city, you can make your own at home — featuring your favorite M&Ms. Free! Shop ' M&M's is so much about fun, and this campaign is about nostalgia and mom love—and that's me. That's the message I put out into the world: You deserve treats. You deserve connection. You deserve to feel loved,' says Rhodes about the campaign. In each limited edition box, you'll find: a classic PB&J sandwich, a fruit cup, carrots, pretzels, sparkling water, M&M's PB&J as a dessert, and a note from Rhodes. 'And this is my handwriting—I wrote you a note. Just to remind you that you're doing a good job, and I'm proud of you,' says Rhodes. It really is a quintessential lunch box, the kind you carried all through middle school and sat with in the cafeteria to share with your friends. It's a reminder of simpler times, and a reminder to step back and enjoy your lunch while taking that time for yourself. 'Any time you get the chance to connect, to give yourself compassion through a treat—whatever that means to you—you deserve to take it,' adds Rhodes. Rhodes specially partnered with M&M's on this, as she feels very often adults forget to take time for themselves, and many of us forego our lunches and instead take them at our desks. This campaign is made to remind you to take a beat, connect, enjoy your moment, and most of all, take time for yourselves. 'I love the idea of harkening back to when we'd trade snacks with friends. Lunch was time to connect with our besties,' she says. 'The idea that you can share a pack of M&M's PB&Js with your friends at a table again? I love that. I love that people can experience that again—and remember it's still available to them.' On July 29th at noon ET, you can head to the M&M's website and place your order to see this limited edition creation for yourself. There are only a few lunch boxes up for grabs, so you'll want to make sure you act quickly. If, for some reason, you don't make it, fret not. You can still purchase your favorite M&M's and make your own lunch box to indulge in. You can even try Rhodes' favorite flavor. 'I feel like I'm cheating on peanut M&M's. I may need to apologize! But that PB&J combo—it's creamy, nutty, and the jelly gives it a whole other layer. It's just delightful,' she says about PB&J M&M's, her new favorite flavor. You can enjoy them just like she does too — straight out of the bag! Or, feel free to add them to your cereal or oatmeal for an added crunch. I personally love them in milkshakes. There are endless ways to enjoy M&M's and endless ways to revisit your childhood with them. You can play an old episode of 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody' to truly experience the early 2000s and give yourself an opportunity to reconnect with the past. Carey, aka Kim Rhodes, will be right there with you every step of the way! Oh, and if you're wondering where to see her next, Rhodes has found a new passion after taking a step back from acting. 'I moved to the middle of nowhere and now I volunteer at an animal sanctuary,' she says. 'I water goats now. That's what I do! I pick up eggs, I rescue beat-up chickens... that's my life. I'm out there 4–5 days a week. I handle the chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, sheep, alpacas, and llamas.' Could she get any more motherly? While Rhodes hasn't discounted acting completely, she says she needs the right role to make her comeback. In the meantime, you have 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody' to binge over and over again, now with a special M&M's PB&J Packed Lunch Special filled with all your favorite snacks. Remember, there are only 500 lunch specials to give out, so sign up soon before you miss your chance!

Football comes home: Jubilant fans greet Lionesses on return to England

The team landed back in the country on Monday afternoon after defending their Euros title in a penalty shootout win over Spain in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday. Supporters, many of whom were dressed in England kits and holding flags, cheered as they waited outside Southend Airport in Essex to greet the Lionesses. Among them were twins Poppy and Daisy Macdonald, 11, from Benfleet, Essex, who were holding a sign asking for a photo with star striker Alessia Russo. Poppy said: 'We're so proud. They've won it two times in a row and they've worked so hard for it. 'They've had a lot of injuries and setbacks but they've done really well.' Daisy admitted she struggled to watch the penalty shootout, adding: 'I couldn't watch, I was very nervous, but very happy that they won.' In a post on X, the team shared a photo of the Euros trophy draped in an England flag on a seat on the plane. Welcoming back the CHAMPIONS! 🫡🎊 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 28, 2025 The team will be welcomed to a celebratory reception at Downing Street later on Monday, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock. Team captain Leah Williamson was seen smiling and holding the Euros trophy as the team left their hotel in Zurich and began their journey home in the rain. Other team members, wearing their medals, smiled as they high-fived supporters waiting outside the building and signed autographs. 🏆😍 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 28, 2025 Lauren Hemp was seen carrying a Beauty and the Beast castle made out of Lego on her journey home. Other players have discussed hobbies outside of football which they have used to help unwind during the tournament, with star striker Michelle Agyemang revealing she had brought a piano with her to Switzerland. Tuesday will see the team enjoy an open-top bus procession along The Mall and a ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace. However, the Lionesses began their celebrations in Switzerland and can be seen cheering, raising a glass and dancing with Reggie, the dog, in a video posted on the team's official social media accounts. The team can be seen wearing their gold medals, chanting the white Cavapoo's name and waving his paw after the match. Reggie belongs to Cheals on Wheels, a barista company that travelled with the team to the tournament. Posting on Instagram, the company wrote that Reggie had 'gone international' and was 'soaking up all the love (and sneaky treats) from the team' in Switzerland. After the game, the King said the team had the royal family's 'warmest appreciation and admiration' in a post on X, adding: 'The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can'. A trip to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle may be on the cards for the winning squad as it is understood possible plans for a reception in the autumn are being explored by royal aides. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the team's triumph, saying the Lionesses had 'once again captured the hearts of the nation' and were 'an inspiration for young people across the country'. Alessia Russo gave the Lionesses hope of retaining their Euros title with her second-half equaliser after Mariona Caldentey netted the opener for Spain in the 25th minute. The Lionesses went on to triumph 3-1 on penalties. A picture of the Prince of Wales with his arm around his daughter Princess Charlotte was posted to X, with the caption 'champions of Europe'. At the presentation ceremony, William congratulated Agyemang on being named young player of the tournament, appearing to say 'well played, fantastic, well done' at the presentation ceremony. Home again 🔜🛫 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) July 28, 2025 Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks. The red, white and blue image depicts the player alongside a St George's cross and a roaring lioness at the club in Maidstone, Kent. To celebrate the win, the Royal Mail will mark the occasion with a congratulatory postmark – which will be applied to stamped mail across the UK from Monday to Friday.
