Manmad-Jalgaon section to get auto signalling system

Time of India4 days ago
Nashik: In a written response to Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje's starred question in the Lok Sabha, Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Bhusawal division of Central Railways has undertaken the installation of an automatic signalling system on the 160km route between Manmad and Jalgaon junctions, This is one of the busiest sections on the Mumbai-Howrah Central Railway route.
The question raised by Waje had sought information on the upgradation of railway infrastructure in and around Nashik and about the major update programmes being undertaken by railways in the backdrop of Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027.
"The minister informed that major infrastructural development works were being carried out in and around Nashik to facilitate the movement of pilgrims, ensuring the safety of all. The railway already undertook a Rs1,110 crore developmental plan for the Nashik Road, Odha, Devlali, Kherwadi, and Kasbe Sukene railway stations as part of Simhastha Kumbh Mela," said Waje.
He added: "Several tracks are being laid to improve the infrastructure, provide parking for trains, and carry out maintenance and repairs, for terminating facilities for trains coming to and originating from these stations towards their respective destinations, including Gujarat, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and many others, and also installation of an automatic signalling system on the route, the minister informed.

According to a senior railway official from the Bhusawal Division, the work on the 160km automatic signalling is going to be an important milestone which will facilitate the movement of five times more trains than are running now.
The current signalling system allows one train to run in every block, the length of which varies from 8-20 km. No train is allowed before the preceding train clears the block for safety. However, when the new system is implemented, intermediary signals will be raised, slashing down the block distance to between 500m and 2km, depending on the need and design, ensuring the running of more trains per kilometre.
"The railway minister also informed the House about the construction of a rail-over-rail flyover at Manmad with a span of 11km. This will allow the free movement of goods trains coming from the Daund side and moving towards the Jalgaon side without having to cross the platforms at Manmad Junction, which receives traffic from four different directions— Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Daund, and Mumbai," said

Governor's statement exposes ‘insult' faced by him during convocation: K.N. Nehru

Municipal Administration and Water Supplies Minister K.N. Nehru on Thursday alleged that Governor R.N. Ravi was functioning like an agent of Nagpur (the headquarters of the RSS), instead of discharging his duties as the Governor of a State. Mr. Nehru said the Governor's customary speech on the eve of Independence Day clearly exposed the 'insult' he had faced during the convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, where a student refused to receive her PhD certificate from him. 'The Governor, without any political decency, had used his Independence Day message to level allegations against the government,' he said. 'The fascist BJP regime at the Centre has sent poisonous snakes in the name of Governors to States ruled by parties other than the BJP. Mr. Ravi sought to create a lot of problems for the democratically elected government, and we crushed his designs through the Supreme Court,' he said. Mr. Nehru said Union Home Minister Amit Shah would 'laugh' at Mr. Ravi's claim that the Union government had allocated lakhs of crores of rupees to Tamil Nadu, as the Union Budget did not even have a reference to the State. 'Tamil Nadu's economy has become very strong, and has achieved 11.19% growth after a gap of 10 years under the DMK-led government. He [Governor] is desperate because the DMK's alliance partners have announced their decision to boycott the tea party hosted by him on the occasion of Independence Day,' Mr. Nehru claimed. He added that the per capita income in Tamil Nadu was the highest in the country, and that the State had succeeded in creating more women entrepreneurs and start-ups.

‘Partition wounds still bleed': Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Remembrance Day

Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said that the 'wounds of Partition still bleed in our collective memory', as he attended an event in Faridabad to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. On the occasion, Union minister for power, housing, and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar slammed the Congress for 'erasing' the sacrifices of Partition victims, accusing it of prioritising dynastic politics since the days of former PM and Congress leader Indira Gandhi. (HT Photos) 'Partition left deep wounds on Haryana's soil. Families came here with nothing but courage. Their determination rebuilt lives and transformed Faridabad into an industrial hub,' he said. Calling the Partition as one of the most harrowing chapters in India's history, Saini announced a set of measures to immortalise its lessons, an exhibition of rare Partition-era literature and documents, inclusion of its history in school curricula, and a reform to simplify name-change procedures for women post-marriage. Pledging ₹51 lakh from his discretionary fund for a Partition Horrors Memorial in Kurukshetra, he said that memorials are being developed across the state. Saini said the state will host an exhibition of literature and documents related to the Partition, while the history of the tragedy will be incorporated into the school curriculum so that 'future generations understand both the suffering and the resilience of their ancestors'. For women empowerment, Saini also promised special provisions to simplify official name changes after marriage, addressing a bureaucratic hurdle faced by many. Saini said: 'This day is not just about grief, but about safeguarding India's integrity. We must build a Haryana and an India rooted in peace, harmony, and brotherhood.' On the occasion, Union minister for power, housing, and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar slammed the Congress for 'erasing' the sacrifices of Partition victims, accusing it of prioritising dynastic politics since the days of former PM and Congress leader Indira Gandhi. Haryana Assembly deputy speaker Krishan Lal Middha called the Partition 'one of humanity's worst tragedies', citing the loss of 1-1.2 million lives, the mass displacement of families, and atrocities committed against women.

'Imputations, misrepresentations': India rejects US human rights report; calls it 'one-sided projections'

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Thursday outrightly rejected a human rights report released by the United States, terming it "imputations, misrepresentations, one-sided projections". However, it expressed confidence in New Delhi-Washington ties having "weathered several transitions and challenges" as it remains strained due to tariff imposition from Donald Trump. "As we have always maintained, these reports are a mix of imputations, misrepresentations and one-sided projections that demonstrate a poor understanding of India's democratic framework, pluralistic society and robust institutional mechanisms for protecting human rights. We do not attach any credence to such biased assessments. We remain focused on advancing human rights of our people through inclusive governance and development," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. It also pointed out that "media organizations and individual journalists who expressed views critical of the government were at times subjected to arrest, threats, or intimidation." "There were also reports of nonstate actors including criminal groups perpetrating killings, violence, and intimidation against journalists critical of the government or for exposing corruption," the reports said. All these allegations were dismissed by MEA as Jaiswal emphasized that India's democratic institutions and safeguards were strong and fully capable of upholding human rights.
