Rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms at Matagbak Elementary School in Rizal now ready for use

GMA Network21-07-2025
Newly rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms at the Matagbak Elementary School in Pililla, Rizal, are now ready for use.
According to "24 Oras" Monday, the three Kapuso classrooms were built in the school in 2010 after it was ravaged by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
In 2024, however, the Kapuso classrooms were flooded and destroyed amid the onslaught of Typhoon Enteng.
Under GMA Kapuso Foundation's Kapuso School Development Project, the affected classrooms were repaired and made even stronger; the school's comfort rooms were also renovated to ensure a comfortable experience for the students.
The foundation also equipped the classrooms with new armchairs and teachers' desks. A new smart TV was also donated to the school and vegetable seeds for the school garden. Meanwhile, rice and porridge were distributed to the students.
Previously, the GMA Kapuso Foundation opened seven rehabilitated Kapuso classrooms at the Virgilio B. Melendres Memorial Elementary School, also in Pililla, Rizal.
The foundation is currently preparing to extend help to those who have been affected by the floods caused by Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) over the weekend.
While Crising has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), two low pressure areas (LPAs) are currently within the PAR and have a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
On Tuesday, GMA Kapuso Foundation will distribute relief goods and porridge to affected residents of Balagtas, Bulacan, as well as evacuees in Baranggay Katipunan in Quezon City.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
Meanwhile, here's a list of Metro Manila malls offering free overnight parking, WiFi, and phone charging stations to those who may need assistance during the heavy rains.

26,000 residents of Pangasinan affected by Emong receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A total of 26,000 residents of Pangasinan who were affected by Tropical Depression Emong have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation. According to "24 Oras" Monday, the foundation brought relief to the municipalities of Agno, Bani, Bolinao, Dasol, Mangaldan, and Sual, as well as Alaminos City. Emong had intensified into a typhoon before it made landfall in Agno last week, bringing heavy rains and strong winds, and causing water and power shortages in the town. "Wala pa pong kuryente, sabi po nila baka abutin daw po ng buwan bago daw po maayos. Ganun din po syempre 'yung tubig po kasi namin naka-connect sa kuryente. Maghahanap kami ng mapag-iigiban, maghahanap kami ng kung saan may tindang mineral kasi nagkakaubusan na rin po," a resident said. Meanwhile, a dike in the town of Dasol broke near the salt farms and flooded the fisheries in the area. "'Pag bangus kasi, 'pag ganun na apaw lahat, nagsisilabasan lahat, lugi sa ngayon kasi sa tag-asin, November, magbubukas na rin kami ng asinan kaya kailangan 'yung mga dikeng 'yan mapilapil lahat," said Generosa Mariado, a resident. The GMA Kapuso Foundation brought relief goods, soap, and water to 26,000 individuals in Pangasinan on Sunday through Monday. The Kapuso soup kitchen also served warm porridge to the residents. The GMA Kapuso Foundation has been continuously bringing relief assistance to thousands of families in different parts of the country who have been affected by the inclement weather, including Rizal, Bulacan, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Bataan, Pampanga, Zambales, Benguet, and many more. For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Residents break dike wall in flooded Calasiao, Pangasinan

Residents shattered a portion of the wall of a dike in Barangay Talibaew in Calasiao, Pangasinan, believing that it could help mitigate the flood in their area. According to the report of GMA Regional TV's Jasmin Gabriel-Galban on '24 Oras' on Friday, the local engineering office has already stopped the residents from doing further damage. 'Ang pagkakaintindi nila kapag nilagyan nila ng butas yung retaining wall sa dike ay makakatulong mabawasan yung tubig sa kanilang barangay. Pero widespread naman itong pagbaha. Halos yung lebel ng tubig nila sa barangay nila at sa ilog, parehas lang,' said Calasiao MDRRM Officer Freddie Villacorta. (They thought that if they put a hole in the retaining wall of the dike, it would help reduce the water in their barangay. But this flooding is widespread. The water level in their barangay and in the river is almost the same.) There are 23 other barangays in Calasiao that are under floodwaters, the report said. For instance, the floodwaters in Barangays Longos, Lasip, Lumban, and Mancup have already reached the roofs of the houses. Tropical Storm Emong made its landfall over Agno town on Thursday evening. The aftermath of its havoc is evident in the town on Friday morning. Houses and establishments were damaged. Trees and electric posts have fallen on the streets causing power disruption in the town. Fallen post in Agno, Pangasinan due to Emong's battering In Alaminos, the strong winds caused electric posts to fall down triggering a brownout in some areas. According to the report, there are 26 towns and cities in Pangasinan that currently have no electric power. Agno and nearby towns are also experiencing disruption in telecommunications. 'Pahirapan kami sa pakikipag-coordinate doon (Agno). Actually, 'yung report nila 'yung situational report nila ay hindi pa kami nakaka-receive dahil walang communication [at] may power outage,' said Pangasinan Assistance PDRRM Officer Avenix Arenas. (We are having a hard time coordinating there (Agno). Actually, we haven't received their report, their situational report yet because there is no communication [and] there is a power outage.) Based on the initial assessment of the provincial government, the estimated cost of damages to infrastructure and agriculture in Pangasinan is around P600 million, the report said.
