No wonder Saleng wants to leave Orlando Pirates, look at his salary!
Monnapule Saleng has been painted as the bad guy by several Orlando Pirates fans. However, there's more happening than meets the eye.
Mercurial winger Saleng hasn't featured for the club since December 2024.
The 27-year-old will reportedly agitate for a move this winter window.
According to Goal, Monnapule Saleng's salary isn't among the very highest in the PSL. It's in the region of R70,000, or R280,000 a month. It's not shabby, but it means he's not in the top percentile of earners in South Africa.
'If he were not an important asset, Bafana could not have called him,' Saleng's friend Boikanyo Maine told Sunday World .
'We are requesting that Pirates consider what he wants. It's unfair, imagine getting R70,000 but your contribution in most of the matches speaks volumes while somebody [else] is getting R500,000.'
Saleng produced a dazzling output of 15 goals and 11 assists from 30 appearances across all competitions in 2022-2023 to be crowned PSL Player of the Year. 2023-2024 didn't reach those heights, but class, as they say, is permanent. He was easily the best player in South Africa, by a mile. In October 2022, he bagged a match-winning brace in a 3-0 win against Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final. Eben Etzebeth: Injury woes a thing of the past
When it comes to injuries, the 2025 season has been one to forget for Eben Etzebeth, who missed a large part of the Sharks' URC and Champions Cup campaigns for a variety of reasons. So, while not playing is frustrating, there are positives like getting the body right and spending time with family.' There is no doubt that the Springbok coaches will be intent on ensuring they manage the game-time and conditioning of Etzebeth to see him through to the 2027 World Cup. The 33-year-old currently has 131 Test caps to his name, and clearly has no plans of slowing down. 'The day I can't play for the Boks anymore will be a very sad day for me,' he stated. 'There's no better feeling than running out in a full stadium in South Africa – Loftus, Cape Town, wherever – with 50,000 people behind you. It's incredibly special, and it motivates me every time.' Kaizer Chiefs make transfer U-turn on midfielder?
Kaizer Chiefs have seemingly made a transfer U-turn on midfielder George Matlou. Matlou's contract with Amakhosi expires on 30 June, and the club has not made any pronouncements as to whether or not he will stay. Various reports previously suggested that Matlou could be released by Chiefs when his contract expires. However, UnplayableZA reports that Matlou is included on the list of Chiefs players who will be traveling to the Netherlands in July. Chiefs will head to the Netherlands for their pre-season training between 3-19 July, and this would long after Matlou's contract had expired. But if he is indeed on the list of players traveling to the Netherlands then it means he is contract will be extended by Chiefs. Since his arrival from Moroka Swallows, the 26-year-old has featured 40 times for Chiefs and registered three assists. Kaizer Chiefs have made a decision on George Matlou's future.
