Is SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Setting Up the Punisher as Leader of the Hand? — GeekTyrant

The MCU might be diving into some dark territory with Spider-Man: Brand New Day , and a recent set photo has fans asking a wild question… is Frank Castle taking over The Hand? A photo snapped from the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows a tank marked with a strange, demonic symbol. At first glance, it screamed Inner Demons, which pointed toward Mister Negative. But sources say Mister Negative isn't part of this movie at all. So, what does that symbol really mean? Fans have noted the resemblance to The Hand's iconic logo, and word is that The Punisher might be the one behind the wheel of that tank. If that's the case, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be teeing up something huge for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially with Jon Bernthal back in action. Adding more fuel to the fire, there's already talk about Japanese-inspired villains playing a role in the story. That makes The Hand a natural fit, especially if Marvel is planning to build into Daredevil: Born Again season 3. In the comics, Frank Castle didn't just fight The Hand, he led them. But not without a cost. In that storyline, The Hand offers Frank leadership and the resurrection of his wife, Maria. He accepts, unleashing their deadly resources to take out major threats like Warlord, Hate-Monger, and the Apostles of War, an arms-dealing syndicate created by Ares, the Greek god of war. Frank also targets society's worst, executing murderers, rapists, and abusers who slipped through the cracks. But it doesn't take long for Frank to see the cracks in The Hand's mission. They weren't just killing the guilty. Innocents were dying too. With immense effort, Frank broke free of their grip, but the story raised powerful questions about control, vengeance, and how far he'd go to clean up the world. Could Spider-Man: Brand New Day weave this into Peter Parker's story? It's not impossible. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home , Peter is completely alone in a world that's forgotten him. If The Hand offered a way to bring back Aunt May, would he take it? That temptation could set up a darker, more complicated Peter, especially if he's forced to cross paths with Frank. And then there's Matt Murdock. If Marvel is laying the groundwork for Shadowland , a story where Daredevil takes over The Hand, things could get even more intense. Frank might step into that role instead, possibly becoming the next big villain in Daredevil: Born Again . It's a interesting direction, but signs are pointing that way, and if The Punisher really is set to lead The Hand, we might get some early clues in the upcoming Punisher Special Presentation . There's even a chance Frank could be killed and brought back by The Hand as their weapon. That would be wild. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ( Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ), Spider-Man: Brand New Day is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, joined by Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Is Netflix's No. 1 Movie, 60 Days After Release

I am running out of ways to describe the unprecedented success of Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, but every time I wake up, it seems like the movie has set some new record. Today? There's two of them, and another one may happen this week. So, what now? KPop Demon Hunters has once again become the #1 movie on Netflix, surpassing the very big hit Happy Gilmore 2 a week or so after its release. KPop Demon Hunters continues to beat its own records as now we are nearly at 60 days where the film has once again gotten to #1 after its initial release on June 20. We have never seen a movie do anything close to this on Netflix. Additionally, new viewership numbers are in, and after those 60 days, KPop Demon Hunters has become the fourth most-watched Netflix original movie ever, rocketing onto the list as the first animated feature to make the cut. Here's the list as it stands: Why did I put the actors in quotes for all the other movies? Because it's not just the fact that this is the first animated movie on the list, it's that almost every single other movie there stars big A-listers that Netflix viewers are more prone to check out. The single exception may be Carry-On, as I'm not sure Egerton and Bateman are as high profile, but they're certainly still recognizable). KPop Demon Hunters has a clearly great voice (and singing) cast, led by the talented Arden Cho, there's simply no one here on the level of those other stars, even in an age when animated films constantly cast big names to try and draw in viewers. Deeply impressive. The third record that KPop Demon Hunters may be about to set is that its fictional girl group, HUNTR/X, may be about to top the Billboard 100 chart this next week. Not only the first for a Netflix series, obviously, but it would be the first for any Kpop group, including those like BTS or Blackpink. The KPop group whose singing appears in the movie, TWICE, has seen their profile skyrocket as a result. So, we're keeping an eye out for more records. Rarely a week goes by without one. I'm guessing we'll see sequel announcements shortly. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

This humanoid robot's ‘daily routine' is kinda bonkers

There doesn't seem to be a week that goes by without a new humanoid robot being announced in China. The latest contraption to step into the limelight is LimX Dynamics' Oli, a humanoid robot that, according to a video featuring the bipedal bot, can do just about anything. The three-minute video shows a typical day in the life of Oli, which in some moments seems to be more human than robot. The footage starts with Oli doing weights in a gym, which is a bit odd considering it's a machine without any actual muscles to speak of. But LimX sees it as a good setting for showing off some of the robot's versatility. Oli the humanoid robot then shows up for a kung fu session in a nearby park. Sparring with a human, Oli is kind enough not to deck the senior citizen, and the two participants depart amicably. At 9 a.m. the robot strolls into the LimX factory that's already filled with humans working diligently — though for how much longer we can't be sure. In another demonstration of its abilities, Oli is shown lifting some boxes and placing them into a wheel-based autonomous assistant. After that, LimX's new creation performs a sorting task using a gripper for hands. It's pretty good, though a bit slow, which is why the video hits double speed for this part. Next, Oli turns up in the office. One of its human colleagues decides to kick him in the back, apparently because she's annoyed that Oli's leaving early. Demonstrating remarkable stability and balance, the robot stays upright and continues calmly on its way, seemingly content to let the earlier physical assault slide. Nine o'clock in the evening is, apparently, 'dancing time,' and Oli is shown pulling some moves that are only marginally more impressive than what Elon Musk managed when he opened a Tesla plant in Shanghai a few years back. Notably, Oli features a modular design where parts can be easily swapped out to suit particular tasks. For example, the gripper can be changed for a hand featuring five robot fingers, which would give it more control over intricate sorting tasks. Its modular design also means it can be fitted with third-party cameras, microphones, cameras, sensors, and other peripherals. The robot is also described as a general-purpose humanoid platform with advanced autonomy features intended for embodied AI research, developer integration, and complex, real-world robot applications. Overall, Oli's performance is very impressive, with the 165-cm, 55-kg autonomous robot clearly already at an advanced stage of development. LimX's new humanoid robot is available in China for about $22,000, with an international version expected soon. Alongside China, the U.S. is also investing heavily in humanoid robot designs. Just last week, we got a glimpse of how Figure's robot is coming along, while Amazon, Tesla, Boston Dynamics, and Apptronik are also known to be developing similar robots.
