BN To Go Into Sabah Polls As A Solid Team
TANGKAK, June 29 (Bernama) – Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest the Sabah state election as a solid team, said its Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Mohamad, who is also UMNO Deputy President, said the coalition is currently exploring cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) as well as understandings with local parties in Sabah in preparation for the upcoming state polls.
'We are exploring cooperation with PH in Sabah because BN cannot go it alone there, so we need partners to face the state election. We are still considering various aspects, especially seat distribution.

'We don't want confusion. We want to be a strong team, so that voters are not confused and will give their support to strong parties that can govern Sabah,' he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the UMNO Ledang Division Delegates' Meeting, which was also attended by UMNO Ledang Division chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Talib at Dewan Putra Padang Lerek here today.
Meanwhile, in KEDAH, UMNO Wanita Chief Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said the wing is conducting a detailed sentiment study to understand voter trends and grassroots feedback, which will be channelled directly to central, division and 'war room' leaderships.

She said the sentiment analysis is being conducted continuously across the country to strengthen the party, and not just for elections.
'For the Sabah state election, the sentiment study has been completed and we leave it to the leadership to disclose the findings,' she said when met after officiating the Kepala Batas UMNO Wanita, Youth and Puteri Division Delegates' Meeting at Kubang Menerung in Kepala Batas.
Noraini, who is also Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, said for the Sabah polls, Wanita UMNO is moving in step with the state UMNO to ensure the election machinery is always at peak readiness.

Umno general assembly postponed to November amid Sabah polls
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 Umno General Assembly, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed to Nov 26–29 in view of preparations for the upcoming Sabah State Election. Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a statement, said the decision was made during the Umno Supreme Council (MT) meeting held last night at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was chaired by Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and also attended by Vice Presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, along with other Supreme Council members. In March, the Umno Supreme Council had initially set this year's General Assembly for August 20 to 23. The five-year term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to expire automatically on Nov 11 this year, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election. Additionally, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno will conduct a mid-term review of the effectiveness and performance of the Unity Government, including the achievements of the Umno leadership within the administration, and in government-linked and affiliated agencies. Meanwhile, he said Umno sees no justification for parties in the Unity Government to absorb members from other component parties, in order to prevent misunderstandings and disharmony within the government. He added that the meeting also decided that the Supreme Council may consider any appeal submitted by members subjected to disciplinary action, in line with Clause 20.12 of the Umno Constitution. Umno's general assembly was initially set to take place from Aug 20 to 23. KUALA LUMPUR : Umno has decided to delay its annual general assembly from August to Nov 26-29 to allow the party to prepare for the upcoming Sabah state election. Umno's general assembly was initially set to take place from Aug 20 to 23. The party's divisions are in the midst of holding their annual general meetings, which are set to be held until July 27. The five-year term of the Sabah state assembly expires on Nov 11, unless dissolved sooner. An election must be held within 60 days of dissolution. Barisan Nasional lynchpin Umno and Pakatan Harapan previously announced a pact for the state polls. Talks for an alliance between PH and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah are also said to be ongoing. While BN has not fully closed the door on an alliance with GRS, state BN chairman Bung Moktar Radin previously said Sabah BN would only consider teaming up with GRS after the state election is over. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the PH chairman, has called for all three major coalitions to join forces for the election. He said this will include the achievements of Umno leaders who are members of the federal administration, government agencies and GLCs. He also reiterated that unity government components should not accept members from allied parties to prevent prejudice and disharmony from spreading within the government. He is understood to be referring to former Umno leader Tengku Zafrul Aziz's application to join PKR, led by Anwar, though he did not explicitly mention the investment, trade and industry minister's name. Asyraf also said the Umno Supreme Council has the authority to consider appeals filed by any member who was subject to disciplinary action previously. There has been speculation that the Supreme Council would discuss Sembrong Umno's motion for former party vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein to be reinstated as a member. Hishammuddin was suspended from Umno for six years in January 2023 and refused to file an appeal, saying the party had never informed him of his supposed breach of party discipline. Yesterday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said an appeal must be filed for any sacked or suspended member to be reinstated.

Suspended ex-Jempol MP Mohd Salim makes second bid to rejoin Umno, insists he's ‘proven my loyalty'
SEREMBAN, June 30 — Former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif has made a second bid to return to Umno after the party leaders signalled a softer stance. Mohd Salim, who was suspended for six years in January 2023 for breaching party discipline, said his first appeal was in 2024 and his second in April. 'I sincerely hope the party leadership will consider my appeals. 'Although I have been suspended, I have remained loyal to Umno and have been actively supporting members, especially in Jempol,' he was quoted as saying by The Star in an article today. He rubbished speculation that he would quit the party for another. 'Umno has been my party from day one. Although there had been lots of talk previously that I would quit the party and join another, I have proven my loyalty to Umno,' he was quoted as saying. In recent days, Umno's top two leaders indicated that they are open to reinstating several suspended veterans but required the affected members to make a formal application. Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said only two suspended members had formally applied for reinstatement: Mohd Salim and former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. Tajuddin's suspension was lifted on November 24 last year, with his membership reinstated immediately. Zahid and his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan advised former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to write in after Sembrong Umno called for the latter's six-year suspension to be lifted.
