Games DELETED from millions of PlayStation and Xbox consoles in days – last chance to download them free

The Sun14-07-2025
GAMERS have until midnight tonight to download a series of titles as stores continue with their sweep of closures.
Tomorrow is going to be a super busy day for the PlayStation Plus subscription service.
1
That is when new games – including Cyberpunk 2077 – are going to be added.
At the same time, a handful of titles such as Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong are getting the boot.
The new PS Plus Extra and Premium Games coming on July 15 include:
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
Bluey: The Videogame
New World: Aeternum
Planet Zoo
Risk of Rain 2
Tropico 6
Twisted Metal 3 (Premium only)
Twisted Metal 4 (Premium only)
It comes after it was revealed Microsoft took three months to remove a game that was an edited emulation of a PlayStation title.
The PlayStation Plus July 2025 Extra and Premium tier updates have been handled a little differently than usual.
Instead of all the new games coming on the same day, PS Plus subscribers have been treated to one in advance.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been added to the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus as part of the subscription service's 15th anniversary celebration.
Huge addition
It is seen as a huge addition to PS Plus and should ensure that Extra tier subscribers get more value from their subscription.
Additionally, Abiotic Factor is coming to PlayStation Plus on July 22, a full week after the usual update.
Abiotic Factor is a day one release and should make for an exciting addition to the lineup.
Get an inside look at the new PS5 30th anniversary edition
At least six games are leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium on July 15, including some rather heavy hitters.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is getting the boot, as is Dying Light 2: Stay Human.
PS Plus subscribers also have to say farewell to Job Simulator, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, Remnant 2, and Vampire: The Masquerade - Swan Song.
Out of these, Crisis Core, Dying Light 2, and Remnant 2 will probably sting the most, though PlayStation VR owners will likely be sad to see Job Simulator go as well.
Ripped off
In other tech news, it was recently discovered that the Xbox storefront was playing host to an edited version of a PlayStation title being run via emulation.
The game, which has since been removed by Microsoft, was sold and passed off as a legitimate game, according to The Gamer.
As first spotted by TrueAchievements, and as reported on originally by Digital Foundry, Anti-Gravity Racing WipEout was originally released in April and sold for $14.99 but was not an original game.
This isn't the first time that a PlayStation title was seemingly ripped off and ported to Xbox.
Back in 2022, a God of War clone was available, featuring a near-identical version of Kratos.
It was promptly removed.

The average Nintendo fan is around 30 years old according to new data

A new survey breaks down the average age and gender of fans of popular gaming franchises like Pokémon and Final Fantasy. Compared to Sony and Microsoft, whose priorities lie in appealing primarily to adult gamers, Nintendo has long benefited from catering to the whole family. The Nintendo Switch 2's initial line-up perfectly demonstrates this, with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza being simple, easy to understand experiences for kids yet offering enough depth to appeal to adults. And yet according to new research on average age and gender ratios for popular video games, it appears the average Nintendo fan is in their 30s, while online live service games are where theyounger audiences are. The research was conducted by GEM Partners and Nikkei Entertainment, which surveyed 30,000 people across the ages of 15 to 69, and has been handily compiled and translated over on the ResetEra forums. While it focuses solely on the Japanese market, there are still some interesting takeaways regarding the more globally recognised gaming franchises. Nintendo franchises appear to skew more towards older audiences. The average age of players of the Super Mario, Kirby, and Pokémon games falls between 30 and 32, with The Legend Of Zelda and Animal Crossing sharing an average player age of 35. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The one exception is the Splatoon series, where the average player is aged 27. Perhaps this is a result of Splatoon being much newer, with the first game only coming out in 2015, whereas the other franchises are over 20 or 30 years old and thus more appealing to older, nostalgic fans who grew up playing the original games. Japanese outlet Kultur reports that the average age of gamers is around 30 years old, so Nintendo does appear to have cracked the code of ensuring its most popular franchises are appealing to the most common demographic. Intriguingly, these Nintendo franchises have a near even split in terms of gender ratio. Pokémon and Zelda have a male to female ratio of 60:40, while Splatoon's is 65:35. Super Mario's audience is mostly male at 70:30 but Kirby, and especially Animal Crossing, are more popular with female players, with ratios of 45:55 and 25:75, respectively. Elsewhere, the data shows that the average age of players of live service shooters such as Valorant, Apex Legends, and Fortnite are in their 20s. All three examples also have the same gender ratio of 85:15, with very male dominated player-bases. On the opposite end, you have Square Enix's Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises, which still skew heavily towards male players but have an average player age of 42. Both franchises are long-running role-players that have been around since the 80s, so it makes sense for their core audiences to be older people who've been playing them since the early days. More Trending However, it also shows that both franchises have struggled to make themselves appealing to younger audiences. In Final Fantasy's case, this could be a contributing factor as to why both Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth underperformed in terms of sales. Of course, this doesn't necessarily reflect the gaming habits of the Western market. Mobile gaming, for instance, is even more popular in Japan than it is here, as evidenced by how prominent mobile games are in the collected data. It also demonstrates how console gaming is being predominantly held up by the older generations, with console franchises like Resident Evil and Like A Dragon having average player ages in the late 30s while mobile games like Brawl Stars and Project Sekai have average player ages of 18 and 22, respectively. This can be attributed to how mobile games are typically free-to-play and thus there's less of a barrier of entry for kids, teenagers, and unemployed or underpaid young adults. Earlier this year, Sony announced plans to axe its loyalty scheme, PlayStation Stars, which gives users free store credit for making purchases and completing campaigns and activities. Thankfully, the points don't expire yet, and PlayStation users have until November 2nd 2026, to redeem them, and use them on new purchases. However, PlayStation Stars is no longer accepting new memberships, so only those who are already signed up will be able to take advantage of the final days of earning points. Announcing the closure back in May, Sony said: "At Sony Interactive, we're always experimenting with new and exciting ways to bring our community of players together to share the joys of gaming and create lasting memories. "That's why three years ago, we created PlayStation Stars, a loyalty program to celebrate our players. "The program has helped foster a deeper connection with fans around the world. "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. "Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. "We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings." Everything you need to know about Grounded 2 early access including how to play for free

The four teens from the original Grounded have been shrunk down once again to fight for survival in Brookhollow Park. Whether you've had a go at Obsidian's initial venture into the gigantic world of the backyard and eccentric scientists or not, Grounded 2 whisks us off on another miniature adventure for the whole family. ‌ Grounded 2 is set to enter early access for PC and Xbox players, featuring the four teenagers from the original game shrunken down once more; but this time, they're battling for survival in Brookhollow Park, which is significantly larger than the backyard they previously conquered when they were miniaturised. ‌ To accommodate the increased scale of the kids' new environment, Obsidian is introducing more convenient modes of transport, with the addition of Buggy Mounts, which are – as you might have guessed! – bugs that can be used as mounts. You'll be hatching, raising and riding your own insect pals that can also assist in combat, as well as collecting resources for base-building. ‌ Obsidian has once again made the prospect of being insect-sized slightly less daunting, with Arachnophobia Safe Mode, and even has a free gift for players. This isn't just for those who opt for the pricier Founder's Edition either. The Tools of Yore (cosmetic items to jazz up your base) will be gifted to all Grounded 2 players, regardless of the edition of the game they purchase, or if they're playing on Xbox Game Pass. There are several ways to get early access to Grounded 2 before its full release, which doesn't have a confirmed date yet. If it follows the same timeline as its predecessor, we might not see the full release of Grounded 2 for a few years. ‌ You can play Grounded 2 early access for free as part of Xbox Game Pass (depending on your subscription tier), or you can purchase the standard and Founder's Editions on Steam or Xbox, with the latter being part of Microsoft 's Game Preview programme. Here's all the information you need about the Grounded 2 early access release date, price, and what each edition offers. Grounded 2 early access release date If you're curious about when Grounded 2 early access begins, it's Tuesday, July 29 (for both Xbox Game Preview and general early access). While an official release time hasn't been announced, it's likely that the Grounded 2 early access release time will be 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST, based on the Grounded early access release time (via Obsidian) and the game's full launch with version 1.0, which went live at the exact same time (via Obsidian). Here's how that translates to your time zone: How to play Grounded 2 early access If you're keen to get your hands on Grounded 2 early access without parting with any cash, then you'll need to be a member of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass PC. While the subscription isn't free, it's worth noting that a month's membership costs less than the game itself, so if you're not already signed up, you could do so for just a month to give it (and the extensive Game Pass library) a go, or upgrade your current subscription level. Otherwise, you'll have to fork out for either the standard or Founder's Edition of the game; but don't fret, you can upgrade from the standard to the Founder's Edition to bag the extra perks (which won't impact gameplay) at any point before the game's full release. We're still in the dark about regional pricing, as the store pages aren't even displaying the cost of the game yet, but Xbox has revealed the US price of Grounded 2 early access in a blog post, so keep in mind the UK and AU prices below are merely estimates. Grounded 2 standard edition Grounded 2 Founder's Edition The upgrade from the standard to the Founder's Edition will set you back $10 (likely £10/ AU10), and you can opt to upgrade at any point during the Grounded 2 early access period.
