My intimate afternoon with Dave Grohl at The Savoy explains how he won back his wife after his baby with someone else
Twelve months is a long time in showbiz and it was a different Dave to the one who visited the famous South West London tennis tournament last June.

They appeared together last year where fans noted he seemed 'snappy and irritated' - but later in the summer the truth about his infidelity emerged.
His wife was already well aware of the affair and pregnancy but the mea culpa public announcement was a last ditch attempt to save their relationship.
The 56 year old frontman welcomed a baby girl with Jennifer Young, a 38-year-old LA-based, rock-and-roll fan.
"I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage", he wrote in the post. "I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.
"I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness."
He added: "We're grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave."
Since his shock admission, the couple have been trying to get their marriage back on track.
In February those close to them revealed that Jordyn, 49, had 'forgiven' her husband.
No one was more shocked by the news than me. I have been a huge fan of Dave since the 90s when he was a drummer in Nirvana and I believed he was one of the 'good guys'.
I saw the Foo Fighters for the first time in 2003 at the Oxegen Festival in Punchestown, Ireland and was totally obsessed with Dave.
Dave Grohl's alleged 15-Year affair and secret love child
I remember as a young assistant producer back in 2007 working on BBC Radio 1 the excitement around the station broadcasting live backstage at a Foo Fighters gig in Wembley. Fearne Cotton told me beforehand: 'Dave Grohl is just the nicest man. He's so supportive of new musicians.' I was thrilled when I caught a glimpse of him from afar.
It was the same in 2015 at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich. Everyone at all levels had nothing but good things to say about him.
I saw first hand the former Nirvana drummer stand at the side of the stage watching Catfish and the Bottleman as well as a then much less famous Taylor Swift take to the stage before them.
There was a sense that he wasn't a typical 'rockstar' but a family man as he told the 25,000 strong crowd: "I'm officially obsessed, she might want to get a restraining order.
"To my opening band, Taylor Swift. Taylor and the Swifts. My kids will kill me for saying this, but this one is dedicated to Taylor Swift.'
While he often had lots of women (me included) swooning in his presence it appeared there was no one he had eyes for apart from Jordyn - who he met in 2001.
People always commented about how his eyes lit up when he talked about her and how in love they seemed.

'My future ex-wife'
He previously revealed he met his wife at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey Bar in Los Angeles in 2001.
He was with the band's late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who was chatting up Jordyn's friend.
He revealed: 'I spotted these totally hot chicks appear, like a vision - my friend's date and her friend.
"They didn't really want to talk to me, probably because I looked gross, so I did what any man in my position would have done: I got them totally drunk.
"In the end, I wound up writing, 'You're my future ex-wife' with my number on a piece of paper and giving it to Jordyn.

"We started to see each other but then I got a bit freaked out by being in a relationship and stopped calling.
"Anyway, we went on tour and our drummer overdosed. [Tayor later died in 2022 from a separate overdose]. It was bad. Really bad. And it made me put things into perspective.
"When we got back to LA, I called her up and said, 'Let's go for a drink'. Just to wind me up, she appeared wearing a wedding ring... and we've been together ever since.'
I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness
Dave Grohl
The pair went on to have three daughters together, Violet Maye, 19, Harper Willow, 16 and ten-year-old Ophelia Saint.
The whole family often went on tour with the band with Dave sharing previously: 'Having had such a good relationship with my mom and dad, I always imagined I'd have a family myself one day. I just couldn't see it happening while I was playing in a band and going on tour and being a working, travelling musician.
"Then it dawned on me that you can do both and, fortunately, we are able to. A lot of people struggle with it and [the band] knows how fortunate we are that we can have the luxury of touring less and having our families come out when we want or need them to.'
GROHL MEET UP
Having been to see Foo Fighters more times than I can count, I was devastated when I failed to get tickets to see them headline Glastonbury Festival in 2017 - so I was thrilled when I was sent to interview them in London the day before they went to the festival instead.
I - along with another newspaper journalist - waited excitedly at the posh five-star Savoy Hotel on the Strand, London for our moment with the band.
Eventually, we were ushered into the grand suite with giant opulent velvet sofas and plush floral curtains - it felt like the wrong environment to be sitting down with Dave and his bandmate Taylor.
We were offered tea poured into fancy tea cups before the chat about what it meant to them to headline at the Pyramid stage at Worthy Farm meant to them.
They had been forced to pull out in 2015 after the frontman fell off the stage and broke his leg in Sweden.
I was utterly charmed by them both - particularly Dave who gave enthusiastic answers to all my questions.
12
He was particularly amused when I told him headliner Adele had been scolded the previous year for swearing 33 times in 90 minutes.
"You aren't allowed to f**king swear at the show? Good luck,' he warned the BBC.
'Oh god, they are in for a big surprise with that one. Sh*t I didn't realise that. We swear the whole f**king time. I basically say f**king in every sentence. I think I have anxiety driven Tourette's."
Even his leg injury was treated with humour admitting: "There is no problem with my leg at all.
"The only thing that I can't do it cross my legs. It doesn't even go off going through the security in airport. I'm so f**king bummed. I would love to tell that story."
ROYAL CONNECTIONS
He also revealed close pal Prince Harry [Foo Fighters played the Invictus Games closing concert in 2014] came to see him while he was recuperating from the operation in London.
"Just after surgery, the first person to visit me was Will, the drummer from Coldplay and he brought me a paper. When I got to the hotel then Harry came over. He brought me a gift. It was a pillow you put your iPad on. It was really thoughtful. He's f**king great. Our nanny Alexis came in and it took her five minutes before she realised she was sitting in a room with Prince Harry. He's pretty unassuming. He's great."
After posing for a snap, Dave said with a glint in his eye 'Make sure you watch our set'.
Of course I tuned in at home. Dave took to the stage and said: 'Yesterday we were doing an interview and someone said 'You know you're not supposed to swear.
"There's no swearing at Glastonbury.' I was like 'What the f**k is that supposed to mean?' and I guess Adele holds the record for the most f**ks at Glastonbury.
"Now I love Adele but guess what f**k, f**k, f**k….. Ok I think we've broken the record. I think that was more than 33.'
I was absolutely bowled over by him mentioning my interview on stage in front of all those people.
While recovering from an affair is never easy - I imagine that charm and cheekiness has him get his marriage back on track.
There is no doubt the loss of Taylor three years ago had a profound effect on Dave but I'm hoping this outing with Jordyn to the tennis means they are on the road to recovery.
Dave Grohl's career timeline
Nirvana's beat keeper Grohl first pounded his way into the limelight as the powerhouse drummer for grunge gods, Nirvana. With his thunderous rhythms driving classics like "Smells Like Teen Spirit," he became the heartbeat of a generation. But tragedy struck when frontman Kurt Cobain's untimely demise in 1994 left fans and bandmates reeling.
Foo Fighters: From grief to glory Grohl swapped his drumsticks for a guitar and microphone, birthing the Foo Fighters in 1995. The band's debut album, recorded entirely by Grohl himself, was an instant hit. Dave recruited a fine ensemble of musicians to make the band a more collaborative effort and they have gone on to rack up an enviable greatest hits collection including "Everlong", "The Pretender" and "Learn to Fly".
Collaborations and cameos: A star-studded rock odyssey! Never one to rest on his laurels, Grohl's star power attracted collaborations with rock titans like Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and Paul McCartney. His uncanny knack for blending genres saw him jamming with everyone from punk legends to pop icons.
Documentaries and directorial dreams Grohl's talents extend beyond the stage. He directed the acclaimed documentary "Sound City" in 2013, celebrating the iconic recording studio. His 2014 HBO series "Sonic Highways" took fans on a musical road trip across America, blending history and harmony.

Naomi Ackie: ‘After Whitney, I never wanted to play a real person again'
'I keep saying it's a sweet film but it is about murder,' Naomi Ackie says with a flash of mischievousness. The actress is describing her role in the keenly anticipated adaptation of Richard Osman's bestseller The Thursday Murder Club. Ackie plays Donna de Freitas, the sceptical police officer from London, and says it was 'cool' to work with her co-stars Celia Imrie and Helen Mirren: 'I grew up watching them — and they are still so enthusiastic. I never dreamt that they'd be calling me Nay.' The Thursday Murder Club will bring Ackie, 33, to a fresh audience. It's the first British comedy she has been in, although her CV is impressively varied. Since her breakthrough as the maid in Lady Macbeth with Florence Pugh in 2016, Ackie has worked with some of the starriest names in film and television — including Daisy Ridley, JJ Abrams and co in 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Steve McQueen in his Small Axe anthology and the director Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson in Mickey 17. ('If we were out and I heard a tornado of screaming fans I realised it was because Rob had got out of the car.') Her biggest role to date is Whitney Houston in the 2022 biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody. It was this film (more on this later) that changed how she sees her career and meant that last year she made both the warm comedy The Thursday Murder Club and the more offbeat American indie film Sorry, Baby.

Baby Reindeer actor Richard Gadd undergoes beefed up transformation for new role - see the Netflix star now
Richard Gadd has seriously bulked up after the smashing success of his Netflix series Baby Reindeer. The 36-year-old Scottish multihyphenate showed off his very impressive bulkier and more muscular figure in new promotional images released from his latest project Half Man. Richard has cultivated some serious mass as his arms and torso were noticeably bigger in the upcoming HBO-BBC drama. The Primetime Emmy winner was joined by costar Jamie Bell in one of the images as they created the series together. Richard revealed earlier this year that he wants the new series to be a departure from the intensely personal and autobiographical Baby Reindeer. After first joking that his next project would be a 'musical,' Richard called Half Man a 'departure from the kind of autobiographical, semi-biographical stuff that I've done before, but it's still dark. 'It still explores the contradictions of the human condition, but it feels nice not to be turning in it all the time while I'm doing it,' he explained. 'So this one I wouldn't say is a full departure. However, he suggested it was 'still probably totally what you'd expect from me,' though its 'subject matter' might surprise Baby Reindeer fans. He added that he hoped that working on something that wasn't based on his own life would 'be a healthy thing to do.' His upcoming series charts 40 tumultuous years in the lives of brothers who are now estranged. The action begins in the present, when Gadd's character Ruben crashes Bell's character Niall's wedding, setting of an exploration of their traumatic relationship from decades earlier. Speaking of a beefed up transformation, earlier this year Richard talked about the surprising actor he would like to team up with. Speaking with Daily Mail at the SAG Awards back in January, he sounded excited about the possibility of teaming up with a major wrestler-turned-film star: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. 'I love The Rock. I'm waiting for his call currently,' Gadd joked when asked if he'd consider working with the Jumanji star. 'No, he hasn't been in touch,' Gadd clarified, but he wouldn't mind a call, as he is a 'big wrestling fan.' Even though that fact seems to surprise people, he admitted that one of his dreams would be a 'road trip with me, The Rock, John Cena, and let's just say Bret Hart.' 'I don't know what we'll talk about, but we'll do it,' he continued. 'They'll be talking and I'll just be there... ' Richard created, wrote and plays the lead role in Baby Reindeer, his hit dark dramedy thriller that was adapted from his autobiographical one-man show. In the series, he plays a version of himself named Donny Dunn who works as a bartender and moonlights as an aspiring comedian. One of his pub customer's, Martha (fellow Indie Spirit winner Jessica Gunning), develops an unhealthy obsession with him that escalates to stalking. The series also delves into his conflicted feelings about his relationship with his girlfriend Teri, a transgender American therapist (played by Nava Mau, who won the best supporting performance honor at the Independent Spirit Awards), and an abusive collaboration with a TV writer who takes him under his wing. The series, which was released on Netflix, has been a hit with critics and fans alike. Richard went on to share his advice to other stars who may be dealing with stalkers, including Piers Morgan, who recently revealed he was dealing with a situation that seemed to be straight out of the hit series. He urged anyone tormented by similar circumstances to 'keep going' and to not let it get in their way. 'I think there's times in my life where I felt like the pressure was so intolerable,' he admitted. 'I almost didn't think there would be any sort of way out, but I think it's almost cliché, the sort of time-is-the-greatest-healer type of thing, but it really is. 'Every now and again in the darkness, there will be a crack of light, and then as the days go by, those cracks get bigger and ultimately suddenly you're standing in sunlight,' Richard continued. 'It is strange, but I never thought it would end, but I think just the belief that one day it will was enough for me,' he said on a hopeful note. 'I think, no, nothing bad sustains forever. I do believe that, and I think that the simple two words would be, "Keep going..."'

All back to Balmoral! The royals are up to their Highland games
There are three things that reliably happen every August: bank holiday travel chaos; scorching temperatures in the Med; and the great Scottish migration of the royal family — an event similar in scale to that of the wildebeest in the Serengeti, but with fewer crocodiles. Things have been bubbling under on the tartan front for a couple of weeks now, with the King and Queen making brief raids north of the border. There's been a church service here, a heritage centre to open there: the bread and butter of royal life. On Monday, however, the migration went Instagram Official at the gates of Balmoral, where the King, wearing a kilt, inspected a guard of honour and a Shetland pony. Last week Prince Andrew arrived; this week it's the prime minister. Any day now it'll be the Prince and Princess of Wales. Let the Highland games begin. The royals can, and do, travel anywhere in the world. For better, for worse, they always go back to Balmoral where, surrounded by hills and cut off from the world, they have 50,000 acres, the size of a small city, in which to shoot things in privacy. The estate was bought by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1848; she loved its remoteness, finding it a place 'to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils'. After another year of torrid headlines, Andrew, ensconced with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, in a seven-bedroom lodge on the estate, may reflect that little has changed since then. Apart from Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk, summer at Balmoral is the only time the whole royal family gathers together. Alas for Andrew, he was NFI to Norfolk and it was turkey for two for him and Fergie at Christmas, after his association with an alleged Chinese spy was exposed. That the King has invited him now may be a show of support, or a reflection of the fact the King is fond of his nieces, Beatrice and Eugenie. • How Kate became queen of the cape It's no coincidence that he's been billeted under a different roof from Prince William, who is hyper-aware of the reputational damage Andrew is apparently endlessly capable of inflicting. Traditionally Balmoral has been the place where the royals can be most 'themselves'. A new book portrays Andrew as the sex-mad useful idiot for a paedophile, so William and the King may perhaps pray that he doesn't lean into that tradition too much. Back in the day, Balmoral was where Prince Philip was 'master of the barbecue', as Prince Harry put it, paying tribute to his grandfather after his death. Queen Elizabeth marked his passing with a photograph (taken by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh) of her relaxing with Prince Philip on the hills around the castle. It was to Balmoral that Lady Diana Spencer was sent to be 'vetted' before her marriage — a test she passed with flying colours. It was from Balmoral that Fergie was banished, after the repose of the royal breakfast table was ruined by front-page pictures of her toes being sucked. The castle is well stocked with wellies, walking sticks, fishing rods and waterproofs, its heavy wooden front door invariably propped open with a curling stone and attended by a footman in a scarlet uniform. Dogs and children run wild. The interiors are a carpeted riot of flock wallpaper, tartan curtains, ornaments, stags' heads and oil paintings, creating an effect much as Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen might design after too many Tunnock's teacakes. And while Keir Starmer may view his invitation as an honour or an ordeal, he will at least be spared having to join in with 'kick the can', a royal form of hide and seek that prime ministers were required to play when the King was a boy. 'Nothing has the same meaning and soul-refreshing quality that Balmoral has,' the King wrote more than 50 years ago of the place described by one of his biographers as 'the closest approximation to a normal family life that he could conceivably experience. This was the home where he played ping-pong and football … or cycled to the village shop.' His first engagements as King were in Scotland and since then he's established his own tradition of spending three weeks a year at the castle, preceded by a short stay at the Castle of Mey and followed by a longer sojourn at Birkhall, his own home eight miles from Balmoral. His first instruction on arriving at Balmoral as King was to open the windows; he has also ordered a rehang of the pictures, a refresh of the tartan drapes and the creation of a thistle-shaped maze. 'His habit during these visits has been to spend his mornings reading documents and to set aside some afternoons for fishing,' says his biographer Sally Bedell Smith, noting that he also enjoys driving himself around and stopping to chat to farmers. According to a former adviser to Queen Elizabeth, the King's love for Scotland is also tied up with concern for the future of the United Kingdom. 'It's not just about shortbread, pipers and kilts, and the family need to reflect that,' the adviser told the journalist Robert Hardman. William has not always seen eye to eye with his father, but on Scotland they agree. Having started their summer holidays this year on a yacht in Greece, the Wales family will end them, as is tradition, in Scotland. 'My childhood was full of holidays having fun in the fresh air, swimming in lochs, family barbecues with my grandfather in command — and yes, the odd midge,' he has said, adding that 'a big part' of him would always be in Scotland. While his mother hated the place, his wife loves it and his grandmother bequeathed him his own home on the estate, a three-bedroom cottage called Tam-Na-Ghar on the banks of the River Muick, not far from Birkhall, where the couple retreated for complete privacy during the early days of their romance, when they were students at St Andrews. It was to Scotland that William invited Kate's parents when he wanted permission to marry her, borrowing the much larger Birkhall from his father for the occasion. Formalities complete, his future in-laws were photographed being taught how to stalk deer. • Riding a polo pony — how hard can it be? 'George, Charlotte and Louis already know how dear Scotland is to both of us,' William has said, 'and they're starting to build their own happy memories here too.' Both George and Louis have been seen on shoots at the estate. As for their errant uncle, Harry's memoir, Spare, begins at Balmoral with the brothers' annual two-week stay. Harry was happy there, he writes, fishing, shooting and running around with his brother; he describes it as 'simply a paradise, a cross between Disneyworld and some sacred druid grove'. Nevertheless, while his children have been to Disneyworld, they have not been to Balmoral, which by 2019 had evidently lost its charm. Harry and Meghan turned down Queen Elizabeth's invitation to journey north with baby Archie in favour of crisscrossing Europe on private jets. In an uncanny coincidence, William and Kate were photographed that year with their children catching a budget flight to Aberdeen. Soon they'll be heading north again to play happy families in the Highlands. It's a fair bet that whoever is master of the barbecue these days, it won't be Andrew.
