An Edinburgh tour guide who is holding a 24-hour gameathon has said he's been able to 'escape the stress of everyday life' through gaming.
Sean Forrest, who works for Rabbie's Tours, will be gaming for a full day in support of Health in Mind. While the pastime can often be seen through a 'negative perspective, Sean feels it has been 'critical' for him throughout his life in building relationships and spending 'quality time' with others.
From 9am on June 20, Sean will be streaming his lengthy gaming session on Twitch. Sean said: "As someone lucky enough to have the support of a psychologist through my childhood, mental health quickly became a topic I strived to break the stigma about.
"When I moved to Edinburgh to study, I worked as a resident assistant, where I first heard about Health in Mind. One of the students expressed feeling homesick, overwhelmed, and isolated.
"They explained that if it weren't for Health in Mind helping build their resilience, hope and showing them ways to support their mental health, they would have dropped out.

"This experience spoke to me. It helped me understand how lucky I was to have received the help and support I needed when I was little, and that not everyone was so fortunate.
"Shortly after, I decided I had to do everything I could to make my corner of the world brighter, and a great place to start was combining my inspiration – Health in Mind – and one of my core coping strategies, gaming.
"Gaming can sometimes be seen through a negative perspective. However, for my whole life, gaming has been critical in fostering relationships, spending quality time with others, living shared experiences and escaping the stress of everyday life."

Sean believes 'play of any form' is necessary for building bonds with peers and 'testing your resolve'.
He added: "It relieves the worry of failure and promotes creative and innovative thinking.
"I believe that play is something hardly any of us allow ourselves to do with the stress of modern life but it should be encouraged in moderation, with other healthy coping strategies for mental health."

Sean first organised a 24 hour gameathon back in 2019, and had 'huge success'. It's now grown from him sitting on a webcam to a 'full-blown' event. He's running it with the support of Rabbie's Tours, after colleagues expressed interest in joining.
He added: "I took my passion and made it into a challenge. Many of my colleagues expressed that they would love to participate in a 24-hour gaming marathon, but would never have the time or space to do so.
"Rabbie's has not only shown incredible support, but has been generous enough to encourage staff to use paid volunteering days to participate."

More info Tributes have flooded in for a beloved Scottish stand-up comedian after his sad passing. Gary Little, a regular on the stand-up circuit and a fixture at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, passed away this week, with news of his death announced on social media on Friday, reports The Record. Gary had been due to perform at the Glee Club in Glasgow on Friday and Saturday night. No cause of death has been confirmed but his sudden passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from fellow comedians and fans alike. Comedian Ray Bradshaw said: "Absolutely gutted to hear about the passing of Gary Little. A literal giant of the Scottish comedy scene. I lived with him two years in a row Australia. He was a wonderful man and helped me so much over the years. "This is my favourite photo of him. Sent it to him every birthday" Darren Connell said: "Scottish comedy lost a legend today - heart-breaking news. He hosted my first ever gig when I was 18 years old, and after a shocker of a set, he took me aside and told me to keep my head down, work hard, and not let it get to me. "I'm glad he was kind enough to say that, and even more glad I listened. I've never forgotten it. "Life is so short. RIP Gary Little" Rob Kane wrote: "Scottish comedy and the world have lost a legend today. Gary Little I could rhyme off hundreds of stories of the times we've spent backstage and in car journeys together, the big man's stern gaze, his lack of tolerance for people over running on their time on stage, but most of all his warmth and empathy." Ronnie Black wrote: "Am in total disbelief tonight that a genuine legend of Scottish Comedy and great guy has died today whilst climbing mountains. "Gary Little is a name well known in comedy and the North of Glasgow. "I had the pleasure of watching Gary and Sean Lock on the opening weekend of Glee. I will never forget Gary spoke for 20 minutes about a frying pan. Never knew frying pans were so funny. "I couldn't post this without sharing what I believe to be one of the best pieces of visual comedy I have ever seen. "Gary the Scottish Comedy Forum: is broken hearted tonight. "RIP mate." Jo Caulfield also paid tribute on Facebook: "What terribly sad news. Gary Little was a great comic and an amazing person to spend time with. We are all poorer for losing you Gary. "My love and sympathy to his family and loved ones. I will truly miss not seeing you backstage and never hearing that big mischievous laugh. "Too soon. RIP my friend. Steven Ward added "That's a shame, Gary was a really sound guy when I met him and funny too."

Edinburgh schoolgirl 'living her dream' as youngest Fringe street performer aged 11

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Edinburgh schoolgirl has been named the youngest Fringe street performer at the festival this year. Caitlin Roisin, 11, started playing musical instruments when she was just two-years-old and has continued to progress her talents for almost 10 years. Since the Festival Fringe got underway this year, Caitlin has put on a street performance six times. Along with her guitar, the aspiring musician performs songs including Zombie, Counting Stars and Shotgun. Building large crowds around her as she performs, dad Stephen Tierney, is "extremely proud" of his daughter. Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Caitlin said: "I started to play my first instrument at two and I just built it up and up. I started going to Totally Sound and after that I got used to doing some busking. "When I heard I could do busking at the Fringe, we signed up for it. I have done six performances so far. "Sometimes it can be scary but when you continue it, everything becomes calmer. I am really proud of myself." Performing on the Royal Mile, Caitlin is surrounded by a number of experienced buskers of an older age. Dad Stephen, said it is "startling" seeing her perform to a large crowd of people. She recently started P7 and is planning on balancing her school life with her busking throughout the month. Stephen added: "When she first started performing, I was impressed she had the confidence at 11 - I am obviously very proud of her. "I think it's remarkable what she can do. It's startling when you see her next to other professional street performers. I think a lot of people do a double take because she is smaller and younger. "A lot of the locals relationship with the fringe is a love/hate one so it's nice for a local to be up there and claiming a bit of there for herself. Our house is full of instruments and when she was two, she expressed an interest. "We got her a ukulele and she would make up songs from a very young age. She became competent and when she was seven, she got her first guitar and it's progressed from there." After first starting her music journey with Totally Sound, Caitlin will be performing at Mercat Cross behind St Giles Cathedral as part of their Community Stage 2025. The show will take place on Friday, August 22, at 3.30pm.
