US & China's Combined GDP Equals 184 Countries
Earlier this year President Trump announced an initial 34% 'reciprocal' tariff rate on China, leading to a swift Chinese retaliation.
For a brief period, both crossed into 100% territory (i.e., more than the entire cost of the goods itself).
Experts cautioned that the resulting chaos could wipe off hundreds of billions from both economies and financial markets saw a swift downturn in response.
Since then, tariff rates have come down: varying between 40โ50% on Chinese goods entering the U.S. and 10โ30% on U.S. products entering China.
In this chart, Visual Capitalist's Pallavi Rao compares the combined GDP of the U.S. and China versus everyone else, using April 2025 data from the International Monetary Fund.
The latest estimates for 2025 have America's and China's combined GDP at roughly $50 trillion.
Of the two, the U.S. is much larger, at about $31 trillion, with China at $19 trillion. If we skip the next three economiesโGermany, India, and Japanโthen the entire rest of the world (184 countries), also has an economic output of around $50 trillion.
Which means that despite the rise of regional trade, there is no escaping one of the two economic giants. Groups 2025 GDP(in Millions) ๐บ๐ธ U.S. & ๐จ๐ณ China $49,739 ๐ 184 Countries $50,381 ๐ฉ๐ช Germany, ๐ฎ๐ณ India, ๐ฏ๐ต Japan $13,118
Note: Figures are rounded to the closest trillion in the visualization. China's figures do not include Hong Kong or Macao.
The U.S. is the world's largest importer of consumer goods, and China is the largest exporter. Most of the world picks one of these two as their largest trading partner.
So even when countries might not enjoy the geopolitics of both countries, their economic might effectively makes them the loudest voice in the room.

US Nuclear Weapons Transferred To UK Soil For First Time In Over 15 Years
In a huge development which is no doubt related to recent nuclear saber-rattling in the context of the Ukraine war, the US has likely stationed nuclear weapons in Britain for the first time in more than 15 years, according to The Telegraph and other British media reports. 'An American C-17 transport plane visited RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk on Thursday, making a transatlantic journey from Kirtland Air Force base in New Mexico, where the US Air Force (USAF) stores nuclear bombs,' The Telegraph writes Tuesday. 'Analysts said it was likely that the flight contained nuclear bombs, which were last stationed in the UK in 2008, before being removed under the Obama administration,' the report continues. The British newspaper says that supporting evidence that this is the case includes previously revealed details of an upcoming 'nuclear mission' at Lakenheath. This mission was first made known in unclassified documents that The Telegraph says were likely published by the US government by mistake, or else it could have been an intentional leak in order to signal Russia. The logistics of last Thursday's rare US transatlantic flight from New Mexico also suggests a highly sensitive mission to transfer nuclear assets: The airspace over the base was restricted on Thursday and the aircraft did not immediately return to the US, in what one analyst told The Times appeared to be a 'one-way drop-off'. The plane also refuelled over the east coast of the US which The Aviationist specialist news website said this was a clue that it was flying a priority mission. Separately The Times had also reported the story, including the detail that the US military transport plane which flew to Lakenheath had flown from the US with its transponders on, allowing it to be tracked by foreign governments. One analyst said, 'Flying transpondered C-17s from hot storage in Kirtland to Lakenheath and then returning and not going to a storage facility tells me this is a one-way drop-off flight.' 'Sometimes these particular C-17 flights are flown without transponders. So, the fact that they transpondered, this suggests to me that this has got to be deliberate,' the analyst added. Again, this seems some deliberative 'messaging' to Moscow, coming as President Trump is seeking to pressure the Russian and Ukrainian sides to make progress at the negotiating table. Washington knows it has little leverage, given Kiev forces have remained on a backfoot, and Russia is making slow but steady progress in the east. The Kremlin says that it is 'monitoring' these reports. Recently Russia's strategic doctrine has been updated, given President Putin a little broader interpretation concerning deployment of nuclear weapons. It is believed that Russian tactical nukes are also still on Belarusian soil, which has greatly alarmed Europe.

Romania Strong-Armed Into Buying $2.3 Billion Israeli Anti-Aircraft Systems
Having managed to derail populist, NATO-skeptical presidential candidates through a variety of extraordinary means, Romania โ bowing to pressure from NATO and President Trump โ announced it will spend $2.3 billion on Israeli anti-aircraft systems to fend off the supposed Russian menace. The big-ticket, Israel-benefitting purchase comes even as Romania is poised to impose dramatic austerity measures to address its deteriorating financial condition. Romania's 2025 deficit will be the largest in the country's history. At roughly 9% of GDP, its deficit is also the EU's highest by that measure. The alarming numbers have triggered reprimands from the European Commission, which asked Romania to bring its deficit down to 2.8% of GDP by 2030. At last month's NATO summit, the organization's members bent to Trump's long-running demands, agreeing to more than double their targeted military spending โ from 2% of GDP to 5% โ by 2035. Working hard to rationalize the outlay, Reuters' report on the Israeli deal notes that Romania 'has had Russian drone fragments fall in its territory repeatedly over the past two years.' The Times of Israel bolstered the narrative with a headline claiming 'Romania [is] on edge over Russia.' Last year, Romania seemed poised to elect the deeply NATO-skeptical populist Calin Georgescu, who won the first round of Romania's two-round presidential election. Citing supposed Russian interference, the country's Constitutional Court threw out the election and ordered it to be started anew. In a May triumph for the EU establishment, centrist Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan prevailed. Romania's pending redistribution of $2.3 billion of its wealth to Israel's booming arms industry comes as the government is poised to unleash drastic austerity measures that are certain to stoke resentments. Potential moves include firing 20% of the country's civil service workers, increasing value-added taxes, and increasing taxes on profits and dividends from 10% to 16%. 'This correction is so extensive, so far-reaching, that pain cannot be avoided,' former finance minister and current head of the Romanian Fiscal Council Daniel Daianu told Politico . Coca-Cola plans US cane sugar alternative after Trump push
Coca-Cola on Tuesday said it would release a version of Coke in the United States made with US-grown real cane sugar, a move requested by President Donald Trump. 'We're going to be bringing a Coke sweetened with US cane sugar into the market this fall, and I think that will be an enduring option for consumers,' said CEO James Quincey on a call with analysts. The company currently uses high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) for many of its US products -- a sweetener that has long drawn criticism from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his 'Make America Healthy Again' agenda. Trump last week said that the company had agreed to use cane sugar in the United States version of Coke. 'This will be a very good move by them -- You'll see. It's just better!' Trump wrote on Truth Social. Coca-Cola at the time did not confirm the move even if it said it appreciated Trump's 'enthusiasm' for its brand. In announcing the new option, Quincey insisted that the main Coke product would still be made with corn syrup, with the cane sugar version offered as an alternative. Mexican Coke -- which is made with cane sugar -- is often sold at a premium in US stores and prized for its more 'natural' flavor. The US president did not explain what motivated his push for the change.
