Work on giving drinking water connection to houses commences in Thisaiyanvilai

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu and District Collector R. Sukumar inaugurated on Wednesday the work on giving drinking water connections to 12,099 houses in Thisaiyanvilai town panchayat from the Tamirabharani Combined Drinking Water Scheme being implemented at a cost of over ₹423 crore for benefitting Kalakkad municipality and seven other town panchayats in Nanguneri and Radhapuram Assembly constituencies.
As the drinking water project, being implemented on an outlay of ₹423.13 crore for benefiting the residents of Kalakkad municipality and Ervadi, Thirukkurungudi , Nanguneri, Panagudi, Moolaikaraipatti, Thisaiyanvilai and Valliyoor town panchayats, is nearing completion, work on giving drinking water connections to the houses has started.
'Since 70% of this drinking water project has been completed, we hope that the beneficiary families will start getting drinking water from October this year,' Mr. Appavu said after inaugurating the work at Thisaiyanvilai in his Radhapuram Assembly constituency.
Followed by Thisaiyanvilai, the drinking water connection work will be started in other six town panchayats and Kalakkad municipality shortly. Each resident is likely to get 135 litres of drinking water a day from this project, he said.
'Since the trial run for drinking water supply to the houses will commence very shortly, we'll repair the roads damaged in the drinking water pipe laying work after the commissioning of the scheme,' the Speaker said.
He appealed to the public to make use of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' for redressing their long-standing grievances and screen their health by visiting the 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' medical camps.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday (August 14, 2025) reviewed the implementation of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' programmes in the State. During the meeting, he instructed officials to act swiftly on the petitions received during the camps organised under these programmes. The Chief Minister also instructed them to address issues such as delay in getting the results of tests undertaken on patients and the transport arrangements for the 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' programme. He also instructed them to ensure basic amenities for those visiting these camps. Mr. Stalin reiterated his instructions to ensure the speedy disposal of petitions received seeking old-age pension, patta transfer, and corrections in pattas, among others. Ministers Duraimurugan and Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and senior officials were also present.

VILLUPURAM: Villupuram district collector Sheikh Abdul Rahman reviewed the action taken on petitions received under the 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme at the Revenue Divisional Offices of Tindivanam, Gingee, and Melmalaiyanur taluks on Wednesday. The Collector recalled that the scheme launched by CM MK Stalin, aims to deliver essential government services and welfare benefits to citizens. In Villupuram, the first phase of camps began on July 15 and will run until August 14, covering 102 camps including 21 in urban areas offering 43 services across 13 departments, and 81 in rural areas offering 46 services across 15 departments, according to official sources. Collector Rahman examined the total number of petitions received, department-wise breakup, resolved petitions, pending cases, and reasons for pendency. He also instructed expedition of resolutions and gave special attention to applications under the 'Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam' women's welfare scheme, with verification visits to applicants' homes, an official release said. An ongoing camp at Kovilpuraur in Melmalaiyanur panchayat union was also inspected, and the collector interacted with residents and reviewed basic amenities. He also checked the registration of petitions with the CM's grievance redressal portal, the release added. The inspection covered health department activities, including medical check-ups at the camp, and agricultural department initiatives such as providing a subsidised power sprayer worth Rs 8,500 to a farmer, official sources said.
