Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Tuesday, outlined the Modi government's vision for the year 2047.
He emphasised the government's significant strides in economic and infrastructural development over the past decade.
During the press conference, Mr Khattar said, "The Modi govt has completed 11 years, and with the targets set, we have 22 years left to achieve them. By 2047, we aim for a Viksit Bharat, and in the coming years, we'll work multifold, building on the progress made in the last decade. Viksit Bharat means reaching a significant global stature. To boost the economy, we need to enhance trade, industries, living standards, and the power sector, which plays a crucial role in driving all sectors."
Earlier, marking the occasion, the Union government also released a comprehensive e-book detailing achievements across various sectors over the past 11 years. The year 2025 marks 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
The book said that these 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. "The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens," it added. "PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve," it reads.
Meanwhile, highlighting the growth in the power sector, Mr Khattar noted, 'If I talk about the numbers, in 2013-14, the peak demand for power was 130 gigawatts, and in 2024-25, it reached 250 gigawatts - almost double. We expect the peak demand to reach up to 270 gigawatts in 2025-26."
The Union Minister also announced a pioneering initiative to standardize air conditioning temperatures.
He stated, "Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20 degrees Celsius or warm above 28 degrees Celsius. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings."
This came after the persisting heatwave condition across the country.

Agriculture minister ends campaign, promises continued talks with farmers
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday concluded the 15-day 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' at a Kisan Sammelan in Bardoli, Gujarat, emphasising that while the campaign was ending, the government's engagement with farmers would continue unabated. Speaking at the venue that holds historical significance as the site of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Bardoli Satyagraha against British tax policies in 1928, Chouhan drew parallels between past and present struggles for farmers' welfare. "I feel fortunate to be on this Karmabhoomi of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On this day, 12 June 1928, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had held a meeting for the Bardoli Satyagraha," he said. The campaign, designed to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Lab to Land' vision, deployed 2,170 teams comprising 16,000 scientists who travelled village to village across the country. These teams engaged directly with farmers, providing research-based information tailored to local climatic conditions and field requirements. "Around 1 crore 12 lakh farmers have been communicated under this campaign and access has been ensured to more than 1 lakh villages," Chouhan said, highlighting the campaign's extensive reach. Dialogues were conducted at over 55,000 locations during the fortnight-long initiative. The minister praised Gujarat's agricultural performance, noting the state's leadership in specific crops. Gujarat produces 77 per cent of the country's castor, 44.5 per cent of groundnut, 24 per cent of cotton, and 15 per cent of gram. Chouhan outlined six key formulas for agricultural improvement: increasing production, reducing production costs, ensuring fair prices for farmers, providing proper compensation for losses, promoting agricultural diversification, and maintaining soil fertility for future generations. The minister announced an ambitious target for natural farming across 7.5 lakh hectares this year, with 18 lakh farmers already expressing willingness to participate. "Many farmers shared their experiences with me regarding natural farming. It was a pleasure to hear from the farmers that natural farming reduces costs and production is also not affected and quality products are obtained," he said. The campaign, which began in Odisha on May 29, saw Chouhan visiting 13 states, including Odisha, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, and Gujarat. Throughout the tour, he engaged with farmers through Kisan Chaupals, conferences, and padyatras. Emphasising the campaign's impact beyond mere information dissemination, Chouhan noted encounters with farmers who had increased their income ten-fold through innovative practices and government schemes. "Such farmers are truly scientists, from whom we will also get guidance," he said, adding that these experiences would help in forming future agricultural policies. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, state Agriculture Minister Raghavjibhai Patel, and other officials attended the concluding ceremony, while the 2,170 scientist teams participated virtually. Centre okays purchase of moong from farmers under price support scheme
New Delhi: The government on Thursday approved the procurement of 54,166 metric tonnes (MT) of moong under the price support scheme from farmers in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat for the summer crop season 2025–26 as part of the Centre's policy to incentivise the production of pulses in the country. Similarly, the Government has approved the procurement of 50,750 MT of groundnut under the price support scheme (PSS) in Uttar Pradesh for the summer crop season. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also given approval to extend the period of procurement for red gram in Andhra Pradesh by another 15 days up to June 26, keeping the interest of farmers of the state. In order to incentivise farmers and enhance the domestic production of pulses while reducing the country's dependence on imports, the government has permitted the procurement of tur (arhar), urad, and masur under the PSS up to 100 per cent of the production of the respective state for the procurement year 2024–25. Furthermore, in the Union Budget 2025, the government announced the continuation of this initiative for an additional four years, up to 2028–29, wherein procurement of these pulses will be undertaken up to 100 percent of State production through the Central Nodal Agencies, namely the NAFED and the NCCF, with the aim of achieving national self-sufficiency in pulse production. The Government of India is implementing the integrated scheme Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), which encompasses the Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), and Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF). The overarching objective of this initiative is to ensure assured and remunerative prices for farmers' agricultural produce, thereby protecting their income and securing their livelihood against market fluctuations. PSS is implemented as and when the market prices of notified pulses and oilseeds, and copra fall below the notified MSP during the peak harvesting period to provide a remunerative price to the farmers.

Assembly polls: LJP (RV) gears up for all 243 seats

The decision was taken during the state working committee meeting chaired by state president Raju Tiwari and attended by the party's Bihar in charge, Arun Bharti, who is also Chirag's brother-in-law. The LJP last made a significant impact in the Feb-March 2005 assembly elections when it won 29 seats after contesting 178. It played the role of "kingmaker" but chose not to support either the RJD-led alliance or the NDA under Nitish, which eventually led to President's Rule.
