CID nets three major victories against trafficking, cybercrime and gambling
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said one of the major successes was the execution of Operasi Pintas Mega, led by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) division in collaboration with police contingents nationwide in February.
He said the operation also involved strategic cooperation with other agencies including the Immigration Department, Labour Department and Local Authorities (PBT).
'During the operation, a total of 45 raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 249 individuals and the rescue of 144 victims from human trafficking networks under Section 44 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670).
'This achievement demonstrates the Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) dedication and capability in combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling professionally and comprehensively,' he said during the Bukit Aman Monthly Assembly today.
Razarudin also highlighted international achievements through participation in Operation Cyber Guardian, organised by the Singapore Police Force, which included five countries: Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
'The operation, conducted from Feb 28 to March 28 this year, focused on eradicating online sexual abuse of children,' he said.
'A total of 46 police officers were deployed with support from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the K9 Detection Unit to detect electronic devices used to store and distribute prohibited materials via peer-to-peer platforms and the Telegram app,' he said.
Four individuals, namely an accountant, a web designer, a telecommunications industry worker and a civil servant, were arrested with more than 50,000 pieces of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) seized, Razarudin added.
'All suspects are being investigated under the Child Act 2001, Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and the Penal Code.
'The arrests highlight the severe threat of cyber sexual crimes targeting vulnerable groups and reaffirm JSJ's unwavering commitment to combat these despicable offences,' he said.
In other developments, Razarudin said JSJ has intensified its fight against illegal gambling through Operasi Dadu Khas, which saw 6,719 raids conducted throughout the operation.
'A total of 8,603 individuals were arrested, and 3,464 electronic devices including computers, tablets, and mobile phones were confiscated along with over RM1.6 million in cash,' he said.

RM1,000 hit job: Segamat fire death linked to Singapore debt scam, say Johor police
JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 13 — The death of a 72-year-old woman in a fire at Kampung Bukit Siput in Segamat on July 25 is believed to be linked to debts owed by her family to a Singapore-based debt scam syndicate. Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said investigations revealed that the victim's house was targeted by a man hired for RM1,000 by the syndicate to burn down the homes of borrowers who failed to settle their debts. The newly appointed state police chief said initial investigations by police and the Fire and Rescue Department found criminal elements at the scene. 'This prompted a special investigative team at the state police contingent level. 'Based on information and intelligence gathered over a week, investigators managed to arrest a 21-year-old local man and his 19-year-old girlfriend in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Both are believed to be the suspects,' he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today. Also present were senior officers involved in the investigation. Ab Rahaman said items seized from the suspects included a Perodua Bezza car, mobile phones, gloves, lighters, pieces of cloth and oil drums. 'Further investigations found that the suspect had been active in committing treacherous crimes involving fire around Johor and Selangor since July. 'The debt scam syndicate is believed to be based in Singapore, but the operations were carried out by hired locals. 'The borrower in this case is a family member of the victim, but the victim herself never received any threats,' he said. Ab Rahaman said police have filed four investigation papers under the Penal Code. These include Section 304B for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, Section 436 for committing mischief by fire, and Section 507 for criminal intimidation. He said a total of 13 charges will be brought against the male suspect — nine at the Segamat Magistrate's Court on Friday, and the remaining four at the Johor Bahru Court once proceedings in Segamat are completed. 'Although two people were arrested, only the male suspect will be charged. The female suspect was released on bail as a prosecution witness,' he said.

Eight Chinese nationals nabbed in suspected Pogo hub in Davao City
DAVAO CITY: Eight Chinese nationals allegedly operating a Pogo hub inside a residential subdivision here were arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday (Aug 12) afternoon. 'The operation was initiated by the agency after a homeowner's complaint regarding suspicious activities inside a residential property,' said lawyer Arcelito Albao, director of the NBI's South-Eastern Mindanao Regional Office. Prompt surveillance and verification by NBI agents confirmed the presence of Pogo operations inside a house at Gardenia Street, Montclair Highlands Subdivision along Diversion Road, Buhangin District here. Seized items from the arrested individuals included 10 personal computers and multiple mobile phones. 'Operators have been splitting into smaller groups and moving into residential areas to avoid detection following the nationwide crackdown,' Albao said. 'It has been an emerging pattern in illegal Pogo activities. There is a need for constant community vigilance and rapid law enforcement response,' he added. The eight individuals, six men and two women, are now in NBI custody and will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree No.1602 (Anti-illegal gambling), Republic Act 9160 (Anti-Money Laundering), and Republic Act 10363 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons). The NBI-SEMRO continues to urge the public to report suspicious activities in their respective communities, including illegal offshore gaming operations. 'Crimes often accompany them, including money laundering, cybercrime, and human trafficking,' Albao said. The operation on Tuesday demonstrates the NBI's campaign as directed by NBI Director Jaime Santiago against offshore gaming that undermines the nation's economy and national security, he added.
