Volunteers from the Atin Ito Coalition have boarded on Sunday the vessel that would sail to the West Philippine Sea for a third civilian mission.
The volunteers embarked the M/V Kapitan Felix Oca, which was set to depart Manila at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, for El Nido, Palawan.
A pre-departure musical event will be held in El Nido on Monday, and from there, the ship will proceed to the general vicinity of Pag-asa Island on Tuesday for a sea concert calling for peace and solidarity.
Volunteers have been setting up the concert stage and preparing materials for participants on M/V Kapitan Felix Oca.
Among the performers expected to participate in the third Atin Ito civilian mission are Ebe Dancel, all-women rock band Rouge, rap collective Morobeats, and P-pop group HORI7ON, Japanese artist Fumi, Indonesian and Malaysian musicians Viona and Kai Mata, as well as South Korean K-pop girl group I:Mond.
Aside from musicians, the third Atin Ito civilian mission will also include artists, fisherfolk, and civil society leaders from the Philippines and neighboring countries to promote peace, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
'We aim to uplift coastal communities by amplifying the lived experiences and aspirations of our fisherfolk, and to foster regional harmony through shared cultural and maritime narratives. We will sail not with warships, but with songs; not with hostility, but with harmony and solidarity,' Atin Ito convenor Rafaela David said.
To recall, the Philippine government sued China before an international arbitral tribunal in The Hague in 2013. It ruled in favor of the Philippines in July 2016 when it junked China's nine-dash claim over the South China Sea.
China, however, rejected the Philippines' call to comply with the 2016 arbitration ruling, calling the decision 'illegal and invalid.' —KG, GMA Integrated News

Bootcamp held for SEA content creators on tech and brand development
The US Embassy in the Philippines gathered young digital creators across Southeast Asia from May 28 to June 1 to connect with their peers and learn about artificial intelligence, digital safety, brand development, and intellectual property protection. Sixty content creators with a combined following of 15 million on all platforms participated in the YSEALI Creators Co-Lab: Bootcamp for Digital Creators. Filipinos accounted for ten of the participants. During the closing ceremony on Saturday in Pasay City, the participants showcased their cultures. 'We learned about brand development, content ideation, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and how to maximize all those things to be a sustainable creator. So I think that's really insightful, at least for me, and I think for the other participants,' said Indonesian content creator Sherly Rahmi. 'I learned that when I put on my camera, I could just shoot right away and upload right away. I create English tutorial videos, but I teach it in Taglish. So, I could help those people who were not able to afford school when they were young… This YSEALI Collab Creators Bootcamp empowered me to be more bold and be more open and give my opinion honestly,' added Filipino content creator Charlene Joy Co-Ellazo. Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson recognized social media's role in diplomacy. 'In an increasingly online world, social media is a diplomatic requirement, enabling us to engage audiences directly, to highlight our efforts to make the United States and our diplomatic partners safer, stronger, and more prosperous,' said Carlson in her speech. 'Content creators, all of you, help amplify messages to reach greater audiences…More and more people of all ages are turning to social media for information, which means you have an incredibly powerful platform to inform, educate, and influence people from your home countries and around the world,' she added. YSEALI is the US government's program to strengthen leadership development and networking among Southeast Asians under the age of 35. Established in 2013, YSEALI has been enhancing the capacity of Southeast Asian youth to advance civic engagement, environmental and natural resource management, education, economic development, and good governance through initiatives such as US educational and cultural exchanges, regional exchanges, and seed funding. All participants will become members of the YSEALI alumni network. —VBL, GMA Integrated News

Barbie Forteza, Kyline Alcantara, co-stars give glimpse into ‘Beauty Empire' characters
Barbie Forteza, Kyline Alcantara, and their co-stars gave their fans a sneak peek into their characters in 'Beauty Empire' as well as the dramatic narratives behind them and their world. According to Aubrey Carampel's report in '24 Oras' Friday, the upcoming series will follow Barbie and Kyline's characters, Noreen and Shari, who are competitors in the beauty industry. 'Ang istorya ho namin ay punong-puno ng puso at pagmamahal sa pamilya with fashion. And beauty at its core, we will tackle murder mystery, love for family, revenge,' Barbie said. 'I approach it with a combination of my personal life and the character's experiences. 'Yung heartbreak or 'yung mga experience sa buhay eh makakadagdag din naman sa pag-atake sa isang character,' Kyline said. Joining the cast are Ruffa Gutierrez as Velma, Shari's mentor, and Sam Concepcion as Migoy, Noreen's childhood friend. 'Velma is, you know, she's a very ambitious and powerful woman, and yet, behind that, she's very soft. Nagmahal, nagkaroon siya ng heartbreak. And I think me, as Ruffa, marami na rin akong heartbreak na pinagdaanan sa buhay ko,' Ruffa said. 'It's been a really great experience being here, working with the team, and working with such generous and really talented actors,' Sam said. The series will also star Chai Fonacier as Kriselda, Velma's trusted assistant, and Aaron Maniego as Silvester, Shari's assistant. 'She's somebody that I wish I had her focus and her grit. Makalat ito eh,' Chai said. 'I'm just so grateful for my co-actors na sobrang gina-guide nila ako every step of the way and napakabait nila sa akin,' Aaron said. "Beauty Empire" is produced by GMA Public Affairs, based on the original concept by CreaZion Studios. It dives deep into the intense rivalries and high-stakes drama among powerful women as they navigate the beauty industry driven by ambition, revenge, and power. The cast also includes Gloria Diaz, Sid Lucero, and South Korean actor Choi Bo Min. "Beauty Empire" is set to premiere soon on Viu before debuting on GMA Network. —Carby Rose Basina/CDC, GMA Integrated News
