Justin Jefferson Can't Wait to Represent his Country at the Olympics
In a press release from the NFL, Commissioner Roger Goodell said, 'It's an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport…I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage. We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.'

Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver and LSU star Justin Jefferson made his feelings known on the flag football announcement by saying, 'To be honest, I'm at a loss for words. To think about the chance of playing in the Olympics and getting a gold medal is a dream, just reverting back to being a kid and watching the track and field meets, watching basketball win the gold medal…That's something that as a kid I always wanted to be part of, but football wasn't global. So now that we're expanding the game and we're going more global, it's pretty cool.'
Each country's National Olympic Committees will choose their Olympic rosters based on recommendations from their National Federations. The flag football event at the Olympics will feature six men's teams and six women's teams, each made up of 10 players, competing in a five-on-five format for gold, silver and bronze medals.

No Grand Slam Track in 2026 till athletes paid for 2025: Johnson
The financially troubled Grand Slam Track circuit will not take place in 2026 until athletes awaiting prize money for this year are paid, its founder Michael Johnson said on Friday. Johnson admitted in a statement "we are struggling with our ability to compensate" athletes from the three meetings that took place in 2025 in Kingston, Jamaica, Miami and Philadelphia. The four-time Olympic sprint gold medallist said he had taken the decision to cancel the fourth and final meeting in Los Angeles "to avoid further losses and start the lengthy process of stabilising the company to get back on track. "But unfortunately, we saw circumstances change in ways beyond our control," he said. He added: "The 2026 season will not happen until those obligations are met -- and that is my #1 priority." Johnson launched Grand Slam as an alternative to the Diamond League series of international meetings with an important difference -- it would only feature track events and not field events. gj/pb

ESPN predicts how Notre Dame will fare in the College Football Playoff
On Friday morning two ESPN analysts, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach predicted how the College Football Playoff would play out and both of them had much different outlooks for Notre Dame. They do think that the Irish will make the field of 12-teams, but with varying results. Bonagura has Notre Dame having a rematch of its season-opening game against No. 11 Miami as the No. 6 seed while Schlabach has the Irish as the No. 7 seed taking on No. 10 LSU. While Notre Dame is eligible to get a first-round bye, they don't think that will be the case this year. It could be a blessing in disguise, as all four teams that sat out the first-round of the CFP lost its second-round game last year. Schlabach doesn't have Notre Dame moving past the initial game, while Bonagura does. He has them matching up against No. 3 Ohio State, only to fall to the Buckeyes once again. As for the eventual championship game, they both have their No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams facing off, but with different matchups. Bonagura has No. 2 Penn State facing No. 1 Texas, while Schlabach has No. 2 Clemson also taking on the Longhorns. After what we saw last year, it's hard to say that the top-two teams will eventually play for a championship, as neither the Irish or the Buckeyes were one of the top seeds. This isn't how I see it playing out, as I think that the Irish will get a top-4 seed, and an easier path in the CFP. How do you see it playing out? Bears move on from injured former Georgia DB
As final cuts draw closer, a Georgia Bulldog has lost his roster spot due to an undisclosed injury. Former Georgia and Michigan State defensive back Ameer Speed was waived by the Chicago Bears with an injury designation, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN. He was waived to make room for former Las Vegas Raiders running back Brittain Brown. Speed was fighting to make the final roster for the Bears after playing two games for Chicago last year. He was signed to the practice squad in Sep. 2024, but he did well enough to get promoted to the active roster on Nov. 6, 2024. Through those two games in Chicago, Speed racked up 17 snaps; 14 on special teams and 3 on defense. He signed his exclusive rights free agent contract with the Bears in April 2025, but it looks like he'll have to try to catch on with another practice squad when he is healthy. Before his brief tenure with the Bears, Speed made pits stops with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts in 2023. He was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft, but five games into his tenure, New England cut him. Indianapolis picked him up from waivers on Oct. 20, 2023. With the Colts, he played in eight games, but he was ultimately waived in Aug. 27, 2024. Before his time in the NFL, Speed played at Georgia and Michigan State. With Georgia, he totaled 25 tackles and one pass defended from 2017-21. He won a national championship with Georgia in 2022, but he was used more as depth, so he transferred to Michigan State in 2022.
