Leroy Sane reveals why he snubbed Arsenal interest to join Galatasaray
Leroy Sane says he received 'many offers' to leave Bayern Munich, but decided to join Galatasaray due to 'the size of the club' and 'how much interest they showed' this summer.
The 29-year-old forward touched down in Istanbul to great fanfare in the early hours of Thursday morning ahead of a proposed free transfer to the Turkish Super Lig giants.
Pictured with a Galatasaray scarf draped around his neck, Sane grinned from ear to ear and waved to the large crowd of supporters which had gathered outside Ataturk Airport.
Bayern had been determined to keep hold of Sane and offered the Germany international a bumper new contract to extend his stay into next season and beyond.
But after switching representation to super-agent Pini Zahavi, Sane changed course and honed in on a move to Galatasaray, where he is expected to bank an eye-watering salary of £11million-a-season.

'The atmosphere here was always amazing. It was very, very loud. That's why I'm happy to be back,' Sane told Turkish media upon his arrival in Istanbul.
'I can't wait to play my first game in front of the fans.'
Arsenal were among the clubs keeping close tabs on Sane's delicate contract situation and the interest was mutual, with the winger said to be keen on a switch to the Emirates.
But according to The Athletic, the Gunners were not decisive enough in making a move and Sane pushed for a 'more immediate resolution', which was duly provided by Galatasaray.
'There were many offers. But Galatasaray as a whole impressed me greatly,' Sane added.
'I was very impressed by the atmosphere, by the size of the club, by how much they wanted me, by how much interest they showed in me. That's why I'm here at Galatasaray.'
Sane made sure to thank the thousands of supporters who had waited patiently outside Ataturk Airport for several hours.
'I'm very grateful to the fans. It means a lot to me that they came here at this hour,' he continued. More Trending
'I'm really looking forward to my first game in front of these fans.'
The move brings an end to Sane's trophy-laden five-year spell with Bayern, where he won four Bundesliga titles, two German Super Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
The former Manchester City and Schalke attacker finished with a tally of 61 goals and 55 assists in 220 games for the German champions.
It's understood Sane will put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Galatasaray, tying him to the club until June 2028.

Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Talks ‘ongoing' for Hato, Viktor Gyokeres LATEST as Gunners ‘leap ahead' Zubimendi updates
ARSENAL have a HUGE summer of business to take care of in the transfer market. Top of that agenda is a striker with Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko approached for the marquee move. Portuguese outlet Record are claiming the Gunners have offered Sporting Lisbon £46million for the leading Prem target. Elsewhere, the Gunners have ongoing talks for Ajax centre-half Jorrel Hato, according to reports. And we have all the latest on Martin Zubimendi with a move to North London now imminent. 12th Jun 2025, 23:15 By Ian Tuckey Gunners eye Anthony Arsenal are tipped to show serious interest in ex-Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga. The £60million-rated Swede was outstanding for Nottingham Forest this season. The 23-year-old notched six goals and 11 assists as a Premier League ever-present, helping Nuno Espirito Santo's men finish seventh. TBR Football claim Arsenal are just one of the Prem rivals keen on the pacy attacker. 12th Jun 2025, 22:51 By Ian Tuckey Defender's wages could halt Emirates exit AC Milan could come in for Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko. Sky in Italy say the Serie A giants are preparing for the possible departure of Theo Hernandez to Atletico Madrid. Zinchenko appears way down the Gunners' pecking order - especially given the brilliant breakthrough season of Myles Lewis-Skelly. But it's reckoned the wages of ex-Manchester City ace Zinchenko could be an issue for Milan. 12th Jun 2025, 22:06 By Ian Tuckey Viktor breaks silence Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence on his transfer fall-out with Sporting Lisbon chiefs with a brief 22-word statement, writes KATHERINE WALSH. The Man Utd and Arsenal target striker is reportedly at loggerheads with Sporting bosses after trying to force through a dream move to the Premier League. The Swede, 27, is allegedly furious with Sporting for going back on their word over a promise to lower his £84million release clause and plans not to play for the club again. He believes he had a gentleman's agreement to leave the Portuguese giants for £50million with a further £8million in add-ons, but that claim has been denied by president Frederico Varandas. The former Coventry man then reportedly threatened to go on strike while vowing not to play for the club again if they don't lower their offer. But Varandas insisted he will not be bullied into letting the Arsenal and Manchester United target move to the Prem on the cheap this summer. He said: ' Sporting will not accept blackmail and insults – you should know me better by now.' But Gyokeres has now tried to play down the squabble by writing on his Instagram story on Thursday evening: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right." It also comes after reports claimed that Arsenal submitted a new bid for Gyokeres on Wednesday, with his agent Hasan Cetinkaya visiting London to fast-track the transfer. 12th Jun 2025, 21:36 By Ian Tuckey Arsenal in growing Prem queue for Catamo A Viktor Gyokeres team-mates has sneaked onto the radar of major Prem clubs. Sporting Lisbon are already fighting to keep Gyokeres away from Arsenal and Manchester United. Now it's claimed Mozambique wing-back Geny Catamo also has plenty of serious admirers. Caught Offside claim the versatile wideman has attracted interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Fulham. Sporting's main shield to a Catano exit is a release clause of 60million euros - around £51m. But it's suggest Prem teams might open with an offer of approximately half that. By Ian Tuckey Going for Bronck Former Arsenal midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to join Arne Slot's staff at Liverpool. The 50-year-old is the leading candidate to replace Slot's right-hand man John Heitinga, who quit the Premier League champions to become manager at Ajax. Liverpool sporting director, Richard Hughes, has been keen to find a replacement ahead of pre-season and Van Bronckhorst, who has managed at Feyenoord, Rangers, and Besiktas fits the bill. Although a deal has not yet been done, Van Bronckhorst is now in talks with the owning Fenway Sports Group about forming part of a backroom team alongside Sipke Hulshoff and Aaron Briggs. The former Netherlands captain, who played for Arsenal between 2001 and 2004, is keen on a return to the Premier League, after spending the last six months working as a Uefa analyst. Van Bronckhorst has never worked with Slot and doesn't have a close relationship with him, although the pair share similar ideas around playing style and have both won the Dutch league. If a deal is completed, Van Bronckhorst would arrive at the club with a wealth of coaching experience. 12th Jun 2025, 19:46 By Ian Tuckey Gunners target Viktor blasts 'false' talk Viktor Gyokeres has issued a blunt statement after reportedly threatening to go on strike to force a move. The Sporting Lisbon striker spoke following links to Manchester United and Arsenal. It's believed both Prem clubs have now made approaches for the Swede. And it's also claimed the Gunners have bid £46million. But Sporting president Frederico Varand denied receiving ANY offers for his star man. Now Gyokeres has said on Instagram: 'There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.' 12th Jun 2025, 19:43 By Ian Tuckey Gunners miss out on Sane Lerone Sane has officially joined Galatasaray following the expiration of his contract with Bayern Munich. The Germany international, who was wanted by north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, has inked a three-year deal with the Turkish giants.

Chelsea's World Club Cup group stage opponents in focus
Having also sealed a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023 there is a feelgood factor surrounding the Blues that they will be hoping to carry with them to the United States. Here, the PA news agency looks at the Londoners' group stage opponents and beyond. With his first-half assist against Sporting Kansas City, @LAFC's Denis Bouanga became the second player in club history to reach 70 career goal contributions, joining Carlos Vela (137). — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) June 9, 2025 The MLS side were a late addition to the tournament and were nearly not involved at all, with an 89th-minute equaliser from Brazilian midfielder Igor Jesus salvaging their preliminary play-off against Club America of Mexico last month before French winger Denis Bouanga won it towards the end of extra time. The play-off came about after Club Leon, also from Mexico, were disqualified from the tournament over FIFA's rules on dual ownership. LAFC, who are first up for Chelsea in Atlanta on June 16, are relatively new to MLS having been founded in 2014. They finished top of the Western Conference last season and qualified for the play-offs where they ultimately finished third, with their only national title coming in 2022. Former Tottenham goalkeeper and France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris and ex-Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud are standout names, while Odin Holm, on loan from Celtic, will also be familiar. Coach Steve Cherundolo played more than 300 Bundesliga matches for Hannover. See you in two weeks, @LAFC 🇺🇸 — Flamengo (@Flamengo_en) June 10, 2025 A clash with Brazilian giants Flamengo follows in Philadelphia, with the Rio de Janeiro state champions and current leaders of the national championship likely to be the strongest opposition faced by Maresca's side in the group stage. They qualified as Copa Libertadores winners in 2022. A familiar face awaits in the dugout with former Chelsea full-back Felipe Luis leading the team as head coach, though the former Brazil international made only 15 Premier League appearances in his single season at Stamford Bridge in 2014/15. Jorginho played more recently for the club, leaving for Arsenal in 2023 and moving to Flamengo earlier this month, while defender David Luiz – a Champions League winner with the Blues in 2012 – departed only last summer. Flamengo lifted the Intercontinental Cup back in 1981 after a 3-0 win over Bob Paisley's Liverpool in Tokyo, and with seven titles they are the joint-third most successful club in Brazilian football. The squad is a mixture of domestic players and recruits from further afield including Brazil, Sweden and Belgium. Captain Yassine Meriah has 85 caps for Tunisia and the defender played against England at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has played in the Champions League for Olympiacos. The club were given the nickname 'The Beast of Africa' in 1994 to reflect their dominance of football both domestically, where they have been champions 34 times, and on the continent. 7️⃣ DAYS TO GO UNTIL OUR FIRST #FIFACWC MATCH!🆚 Al Hilal 📺 Watch every FIFA Club World Cup 2025 game LIVE, on @DaznFutbol!#TakeItToTheWorld — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) June 11, 2025 Should Chelsea progress as group winners it will mean a last-16 meeting with the side that finishes runner-up in Group C, likely to be Benfica or Argentina's Boca Juniors. Bayern Munich are another possible opponent, as are New Zealand club Auckland City. Thereafter things become less easy to predict, but topping the group could well set them up for a quarter-final against either Real Madrid, Paris St Germain or Borussia Dortmund.
